I hope some Americans understand that they have to live in unity and stop being racists. After all America is made of immigrants - both black and white
Well said - please remember WE ARE ALL IMMIGRANTS unless you're native american and us immigrants tried are best to wipe many of them out.
so why are we celebrating he is a BLACK man? There is way too much about his color rather than his ideas or campaign promises. The past problems of the country are NOT all the fault of Bush anymore than the future is ALL up to Obama. You can't have it both ways.
Every Inauguration should be covered like this.
The peaceful transition of power that happens every 4 to 8 years is a great example to the world and our citzens. We should not take it for granted...
For so many of us Americans to witness history in the making is a once in a lifetime event. If George Washingtons’ or Abe Lincolns’ inauguration could have been shared with all citizens of the United States and the world, would anyone not want to be a witness? If the media could have broadcast the signing of The Declaration of Independence throughout the country would you folks think it was overkill? If Columbus and his crews journey could have been televised, would you folks not watch?
No one thinks Obama is Lincoln, yet the historical value of this time in our country's history should be shared by the entire country.
"We cannot afford to squander the opportunity that history and George W. Bush have provided us". "It is time for all of us to report for duty in the battle to turn this historic opportunity into the next great period of progress in America". Robert Creamer
The more coverage the better! Veteran from Maine.
It's our civic duty to vote in every election. We should also pay attention to the results. There could never be too much coverage in any inauguration. In my opinion elections and inaugurations should either be national holidays or held on weekends to ensure maximum participation. We have the most important and powerful democracy in the western hemisphere, it is shameful that American Idol finals and the Superbowl get better ratings than our inaugurations.
As citizens we need to be engaged. If we are not, well, it sends the message to those we put in office that we don't care; and then we wonder why they act like they don't care what we think either.
Inaugurations are Americans' way of celebrating the richness of people and resources in our country. This inauguration is special, not because, we are witnessing our first bi-racial president, called an African-American, but because it will give Americans another chance to refresh itself and look forward to a new beginning. The last eight years have made Americans sorrowful, weary, and disgraced. This inauguration will refresh us all, no matter what our political persuasion is, our color, creed, gender, sex, or ethnicity.
It represents an opportunity to start afresh.
Speak for yourself - could care less about another inept politician coming into office especially when he is already proving he is clueless - (1) appoint a tax cheat to run the IRS (2) support adding 4million more to an already bankrupt government t medical program - he is a socialist disaster about to happen and while I am quite happy to see the back of Bush I am fairly certain the ridiculous media love in for this unqualified inexperienced social worker will crater fast. And spending $150m on this farce at this time - more proof that he is the same old washington insider - remember the kings new clothes - you fell for it here
Spot on Gary O.!
The media cried like babies when Bush spent less than 50 million on his inauguration in 2005, saying it was too much, it was ridiculous, and that he should be setting the example in a "tough time." Where is the media outcry this year? It's only 150 million this year. Oh, but that's OK, this one is historical, spend all you want. What recession? What trillions of debt? I have news for you; all inaugurations are historical.
Then there is the security detail of 42,000 individuals! By the way folks, thats more than the 31,000 troops that are in Afganistan! Oh, but forget them, because THIS inauguration is special.
Obama is the "Green President" great on environmental issues. Yup, the carbon footprint of this inauguration will be enough to power 57 million homes for 1 year, now that's what I call "green."
Check out his new limo! You will love the specs on that. It's called "The Beast." Enough said.
You should be pres Jeremy well put!!!!!!!! and His frist mission is to let the murders of the U.S.S. COLE and one of the master minds of 9-11 Out of G.I.T.O . This counrty is in for one big shock SOON. so I hope they enjoy their 60 or 150 mill show and the next 4 year show.
I agree 100% with Gary's and Jeremy's comments!! Big time democratic party double standards. I didn't always agree with things that Bush did, but was able to do so without fear of being considered racist. Starting tomorrow, that all changes. I've been voting for almost 40 years, and have never been more concerned than I am right now!! Completely unqualified president that was elected because of a corrupt election process...Acorn, illegals voting, etc. Most people can only talk about the first black or 1/2 black president, and here I thought qualifications mattered. Hell, I should have ran.
so why are we celebrating he is a BLACK man? There is way too much about his color rather than his ideas or campaign promises. The past problems of the country are NOT all the fault of Bush anymore thanthe future is ALL in his lap. Just like any prejudice issue - you can't have it one way for one and not for the other --
I don't think the media coverage is excessive. I think everyone should stay home and watch it and save the $150 million it is costing to put this show on. A lot of poor people could use that money.
Except for the landing on the moon, probably the most historic event of our lifetime
That remains to be seen......success and history go hand-in-hand.
are you kidding me????????????? You are comparing this to landing on the moon? Scarey!
Historic? You're absolutely right. An unqualified person can get elected president, by having money, being a minority, and the backing of an idiotic media.
I think it's wonderful. Watching the whistle stop train tour today, it was sobering to hear Obama put into historical context the history at each stop. It reminded me how much we take for granted in this country.
P.S. In my opinion, CSPAN has the best coverage - no talking heads to have to deal with.
The inaugeration of any president is an honor important and never excessive. The war has been excessive. ignorance hatred and deceit that cause division among men women children and families are excessive. The misappropriation of tax dollars are excessive.
The lack of accountability for the big dig, six figure salaries and glass ceiling bonuses are excessive. I can go on. but, We as people need to be less excessive in opinion and more excessive in peace patience and prosperity for a positive outcome maintaing integrity to strenghten our economy, country and the spirit of all people and countrymen.
We need some thing positive after years of misery. Many $$ will be spent and the economy needs it. Tis is the free America I know- The Melting Pot.
Norah O'Donnell should cover this event all day and all night. That woman is too georgeous for words. the ratings would be off the top. What football game?
Have you lost your ever loving mind. Wake up . She is not Jackie Kennedy .
Well, I have officially turned off my TV for the next 72 hours.
I can not explain it but I have a sense of foreboding or I can not explain it but something out there is out of wack.
It reminds me of that Yoda Line, There is problem in the force!
I am a history teacher so I am loving all of the coverage. My only question is why are the interviews in the crowd heavily black over any other ethnic group? Obama is President for ALL Americans and calls on ALL Americans to help rebuild our country.
I agree with you 1000%. The problem I have with this coverage and with the election as a whole is the emphasis on the his color. I think that emphasis will cause more problems i lieu of healing the county.
The media has bombarded us via the internet,tv,radio & all other means with this con of the "Messiah" for months before the election, and will continue to carry his water in the future. They've already started covering their butts & his as well because they know its all a scam. So you suckers go ahead with your pie in the sky 'Coke & a smile" the world will love us now, everyone hug & sing Kumbaya & live happily ever after fantasy. The drug dealers will stop selling drugs, the pimps will stop pimping,no more murders,(this is where I live & it happens daily)plus you don't have to pay your bills now, or your mortgage, free everything! NBC & MSNBC along with the rest are the biggest frauds on the planet.
You forgot paving the streets with gold......you know, the plan to rebuild the infrastructure........Can't wait to see how much thats going to cost the real taxpayer.
Love the coverage. It is about time something positive is happening in America after 8 years of "doom and gloom" Bush. Tuesday can't come fast enough for me.
Why must MSNBC zoom in mainly on black faces in the crowd? Obama's victory is mainly about the U.S.A! The racial component is only a part of it. A poignant part, yes, but his victory is for all races.
WOW "NOT SUCKERED" you sound really unhappy. Where's the love??? Maybe you need someone to talk to. It sounds like your living situation is dire and perhaps you should use this as a time to "rise up" out of your situation. Remember, you must help yourself before anyone else ever will. This is a great day and so many people are enjoying themselves. The concert at the Lincoln Memorial today was absolutely fabulous. They showed it in its entirety on HBO and it was truly a joy to see. It was amazing that so many artists wanted to participate ("free of charge") from Garth Brooks to Will.I.Am singing patriotic tunes that we all know and love in duos and trios. Jon Bon Jovi and Bettye LeVette did a great duo of the old tune "Change Gone Come" by Same Cooke. Plus I'm in L.A. and the weather is absolutely gorgeous. A couple of friends stopped by for a minute and we had a couple of Martinis and life is good! I was going to continue to get my party on until I realized I had homework and decided to talk to you. What are you so mad about??? Or are you feeling sorry for yourself because of your living arrangements. No one thinks he's the "Messiah" as you say, we're just very excited about a new beginning and a special time in our history. Surely you must agree at least that considering the problems we've had in this country in the last few years, it's time for a change. And what scam are you talking about? Do you think Obama's a scam? Why would you say such a thing? Our future President probably isn't much different than you in having to overcome obstacles in his life to get where he is today. At least give yourself time to have a reason to hate!!! Keep your head up! It'll get better!
He's probably feeling like you did when the Republicans won....go ahead and get your paybacks which you've obviously been bottling up for all these years...cause it might not last. I however, will support any US president (it's the right thing to do)...will you?
I would love more than anything to see this event in person. I am Very Proud to be an American and Very Proud of this New President. Not Being able to be there in person, Television the the next best viewing point. MSNBC, CNN and even Fox as well as the many other news related programming - I would love to see all perspectives but cannot... I also view alot of MSNBC and CNN on-line.
Im glad to hear you are proud to be an American. I have "always" been proud to be an American also. Do we all remember when the First Lady became proud to be an American? I believe that happened for her in 2008. I really hope someone coaches her on to speak now that she actually became First Lady of this great country!
The coverage is excessive as it has been with everything Obama has done (not necessarily a bad thing). As long as they continue to cover him in an objective way (cover the good and the bad). Republicans will naturally whine about him as Democrats have whined for the past eight years. Nothing changes. Republicans will eventually be back in the White house and we will going through the same thing.

I want to see everything and the more coverage, the better. We are witnessing history and everyone and their children should see it.
