So we have now two private companies: GovTech Solutions, which is Connell’s company, SMARTech, which is run by a guy named [Jeff] Averbeck. And the company—the third private company that managed the voting tabulators in Ohio was called Triad. All three of these companies worked closely together on election night in Ohio in 2004. Bush defended freedom. Socialism historically is not the answer. This nation has lost its will to be better than anyone else. No government program or bailout will ever fix that. Lincoln spoke of a "new birth of freedom". We need a "new birth of excellence". We must remember hard work and an undying commitment to doing things better than anyone else set us apart from the rest of the world. It brought us to the "Great American Century". How quickly it evaporates when corporate exec worry more about their perks, Wall Street more concerned with takeovers, main street more worried about handouts and bailouts and a government system (both sides) inciting elements of class envy to keep hold of power.

And let's not forget, his presidency didn't begin on Sept. 12th.  He was in office for almost a year before 911.  But he and his staff chose to ignore everyone who was trying to warn them, just like he ignored the victims of Katrina.  I mean, it would have been nice for him to at least act like he gave a damn.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! Tens of millions of dollars to treat those infected with HIV/AIDS but a big fat ZERO on any form of prevention (i.e. condoms). And there is no mention anywhere that much of the money and/or drugs provided throughout Africa go unused (and ultimately wasted, the funds must be used within certain time frames and the drugs, very expensive drugs, have expiration dates). In some parts of Africa, the Aids epidemic has been brought under control, not due to anything Bush has done, there has been much aid given to Africa in the last two decades. These regions do not have people dying from AIDS, they have men, women and especially CHILDREN dying from not having clean drinking water or the simple fluids they need when they have dysentery. IV fluids for adults and something as simple as Pedialyte for children. And they cannot use any of the unused funds earmarked for AIDS, that they DON'T need for IV fluids and Pedialyte to save the lives that are being lost in alarming numbers. Great AIDS program, huh?

Bush didn't "cause" Katrina to destroy New Orleans, his appointment of Brown to head FEMA was simply giving a favor to a buddy who had no business being in that position.  I also don't believe he was the "cause" of the banking collapse, but the policies of his administration and the runaway right-wing legislation (deregulating the banking and financial industry) during the early 2000's did open the door for the corruption and ulitimate fallout.  Bush will be seen as a presidential failure; a man who was in over his head from day one,  who vowed to govern from the center only to veer to the right.  I hang my head and sigh when I think of the hope we had in 1999, the sadness but unity we had in 2001, and the empty pockets we have now.  Here's hoping the next 4 years can start to right the ship. 

What specifically do you mean by deregulating the banking system?  It has been deregulated, but I am not sure that has occurred in the last 8 years (at least entirely) - it has been going on for some time, to include pushing banks to lend to some marginal customers.  The separation of commercial and investment bankng occurred during the 1990's I believe.  Honestly, what specific action are you referring to?

This is money that we paid in.  Money that will be paid back by us in the form of higher taxes.  It seems like Obama thinks we have all this money lying around.  He's spewing our money out of his butt and he's not even the POTUS yet.  Don't blame Bush for the economy meltdown.  Maybe look in the mirror a little bit.  Americans should look in the mirror.  We who have bought houses and cars we can't afford.  We who can not pay back our debts.  We who go crying to the Feds because we "made a boo boo" and over extended ourselves and need to be rescued.  It's not Bush's debt.  It's YOUR debt.

Oh and one more parting shot, don't call Bush an idiot.  If he's an idiot, you are an idiot, because you guys are the one's that voted him in.  TWICE.

I agree Dan...Personally I think those companies in trouble need to crash and burn...file for bankruptcy, re-organize and start over...we are throwing money away on an obviously faulty system.  We can't keep borrowing money from other countries!  We have never been in this situation before, but why are we repeating the same mistakes our fabulous Congress made only a year earlier?  Why are we putting gas into a dead Pinto Station Wagon?  The stimulus package passed last year was only a blip on the radar screen...It was a nice try (and provided a nice cushion in a lot of people's savings accounts) but what makes Obama think this new package will do any better?  The brains of our financial system need to sit down and work this out...not some junior senator from Illinois.

Sorry Dan not everyone voted for this idiot twice and could see what bush actually was...deceptive.  You seem to have a selective memory...."more people own houses" ie bush during the second term so yes he partially responsible for the mess just as barney frank ( with a gop congress- who promotes smaller govt when it suits them and they can fool gop fools..)  Yes their were people who couldnt afford these homes and are paying for it now but lets not forget those that were selling the product in order to make a profit "by any means necessary".  If we cant blame bush for the economy who should we blame....clinton or obama??  Up to today the only people who have benefited are the banks, paulson's wall street buddies, and car companies.  And lets not forget the home owners....not the ones above but the ones that paid their mortgage and are losing or have lost equity regardless of the outcome.  Thank god that this court elected president didn't "privatize social security" or america would need a new world for Depression.

Good Riddance President Bush please live a long life as the deceptive deeds that you have done to supposedly protect america will come out into the light.  Just remember to take your sheet off when you leave your "exclusive" gated community in Dallas.

Spending... Seems like the shoe is on the other foot for Republicans and the Bush administation far exceeded the previous spending record for congress.. and thank you very much... left us with more than a trillion dollar deficet... and damaged economy. Obama has to clean up Bushes mess... it will cost a lot.

Matt, you've done nothing here but hide behind a sixth grade mastery of grammar, which for being such a cornerstone of your argument, you don't seem to carry out with much grace yourself.   You can't defend Bush in any way besides calling his critics socialists.  Furthermore, you seem to be passing judgement on the work ethic of total strangers on the internet, who, for all you know, may work harder then you could imagine.  It's blatantly hateful and ignorant.  LIberals are not by definition socialists, and socialists are not by definition averse to hard work.

You are the most vilest thing with all your name-calling and  trashing others who don't agree with you....which I may point out, hold the vast majority in this post!  Well guess what? I'd take a shot and say you probably have very low self-esteem, so have to criticize others to make yourself feel superior. There are those saying that hey it's all of our faults that we are in this mess.  By first voting him in and secondly, not spending wisely.  Well I voted against him...twice.  I didn't buy a house in the last eight years, and we saved up money to buy a car outright rather than use credit and pay monthly.  However, my family is still suffering from the credit crisis, because my husban's hours have been reduced due to lack of revenue. Of course I'm thanking my lucky stars that he hasn't been laid off!  I fully blame those in government for getting us into this mess.  The majority of American people are followers and follow the example of their leaders.  Those leaders in Washington were spending freely and encouraging us to do the same.   Both Republican and Democrat are to blame.  Maybe if they had spent more time on important issues rather than renaming French Fries, we wouldn't be in as deep doo doo as we are now.  And maybe if instead of fighting each other and acting like middleschoolers, we would also be in a better position.

Oh! I'm sorry but Bush most certainly did not improve the public school system.  Instead, he send out a bunch of standards that schools have to meet, underfunded it, and caused teachers to teach to the test.  Also, there were no provisions made for children in special education, or children with english as a second language.  No Child Left Behind is a collassal failure! 

As for the terrorists, I do most certainly care that our fellow Americans were killed.  However, we most absolutely cannot ignore our principles when it is inconvient.  If we do so, the terrorists win.  If we do so then our victory over them will be hollow because we ignored our principles with it became inconvient.  In the War on Terror, we must especially cling to our principles because those very principles were essentially attacked.  Those who wish us harm because of our way of life win if we abandon our beliefs in the basic rights that we have decided every human being deserves.  When we torture, when we hold people indefinately with out hope of legal representation, or their day in court, we are sullying the great name of the United States of America.  We have set for ourselves certain rules and have agreed to others for fighting a war, we must not ignore them.  Just because they don't play by those rules dosen't mean that we get to do whatever we want too.
