Would you fly on an airline that charges passengers to use the bathroom?
The CEO of Ryanair, an Ireland-based low-cost airline, said the carrier might start "putting a coin slot on the toilet door."
I would rather drive, take a ship cargo ship any thing possible...

This is a "no brainer".

On a cross country flight, I probably use the bathroom once, twice at the most. I can afford it. On short flights, I don't even use the toilet, so ... .
This is getting downright RIDICULOUS! They used to have pay toilets in the 70's at the airports, NOT the planes. Its nickel and diming at its worst, and its making people less apt to travel by plane. I agree with this poster....maybe if we start boycotting the airlines and finding other means of travel, they will get the message we are ALL sick of their crap! They practically strip your butt down at the airport in the name of "safety", and we are supposed to just deal with more lack of servic? Flying used to be fun and a treat, now, it blows literally in ALL proportions!
The pilot or attendents doesn't have to pay why should we. It cost just as much to pay for disposal for what they leave there......it doesn,t matter if you add to it. I think it a law for the work place that if you work there you need a temporary John if you're there for a certain lenghth of time.
It's called reasonable accommodations. This is what I expect when I book and pay for a flight. The money I pay the airline covers travel, the taking of reasonable luggage, a seat, and a place to pee.
Just wait til the first person or child does their business or perhaps vomits (from airsickness) in the aisleway and see how quickly they change their policy. I'd try to deliberately get sick in the aisleway just to piss them off (so to speak) so they'd start to re-evaluate this ridiculous fee. They just lost a customer.
Gross. This airline was low-class to begin with, but this is beyond ridiculous.

#5 - Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:28 AM ESTThis is insane! It's not like you have a choice if you "need to go". What will happen is that people will make unhealthy decisions. We are told to drink extra while flying so as not to dehydrate. This will result in people deliberately NOT drinking before and during a flight. I would definitely refuse to fly on an airline that charged for this. Would they rather we crap on the seat?
#6 - Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:30 AM ESTThat's exactly right--the airline would be responsible for people having digestive and urinary tract troubles, dehydration problems, etc. because, let's face it, people fly Ryanair to save money--and they're not going to pay to use the loo unless it's an absolute emergency.
I say Ryanair customers should drop their trousers and take dumps in the aisles in protest.
I'd waering a tartan for ease of access and depending on need, I'd either use the barfbag or a cup.

the bathrooms are already gross...now they want you to pay to use them? i agree with just shutting down the whole business if that's the case....

Marketing Viewing and Evaluation Charge, of course.
That's just as fair as a pay toilet in an airplane.
Alternately, we COULD just go in the Galley: it would be hard to distinguish from normal airline food. . . .

I suggest the person who floated that idea be locked in an airport toilet for 48 hours with a malfunctioning toilet. Hell make it 72 hours for full effect.

I would have no choice iff the flight was longer than 30 minutes. That's just the facts. Can I have a discount if I have to wait in line?

I'd hate to ruin your day..I come from a "3rd world country" (Paraguay)..but our airlines not only won't charge you for anything, they serve GOOD MEALS and alcoholic beverages (yes, whatever you want) for free. Oh, and it doesn't take us 40 years to pay for our houses . and yes, we DO live in beautiful homes! So don't generalize next time.

In the US we need to finally develop good high speed train service which will compete with the airlines.
Airlines think the own the US travel industry and unfortunately for long distance trips - they do.
