nothing new for this guy. he only thinks of himself.
Gee Lisa. Sounds like you need to get over YOURself. Or are you some amazing Dr. Phil who can psychoanalyze someone you've never met?
Wow, that is psychoanalyzation all on it's own here, smartdude(?). Bit of an overreaction, don't you think?
What a pathedic comment to make. Lets start with Obama loves his wife and kids. He has many friends that he has had for years. Selfish people have few if any. He worked for little pay as a community organizers when he could have made big bucks as a corp. attorney. This is not the profile of a selfish person by any measure. Its blantent you are a GOP groupie with no ideas and only offer crude baseless degrading thoughts that no-one with an ounce of common sense will take seriously! I suggest you get into your comfort zone and make your sick comments on Fox news.
And if Bush said this he would get a pass??? Be real. He would be excoriated
BO is a total embarrassment. He is so into himself. If this were a Republican you libs would be ripping him apart. And rightfully so. I didn't think anyone could top Bush 43. Well looks like I could be wrong.
No, you were right. Obama has a looooong way to go to top Gdumb.
You can not compare GWB and what he said and done, to a person like BO what lets you know he is human and makes mistakes get over your self.
Sounds like he's been president for 40 years from your comment. The guy's been in office for just two months, give him a break already!
Its really amazing to see comments from Trish and smartdude. If it had been Bush or anyone else in the other party we would be seeing different remarks. You want PC when it was Bush but now that your dog is in the fight "oh no, we're being overly sensitive. Bull!!!! Say what you want but your man is getting what you dished out before. You say that would should be concerned about the economy and not about his comments. Yes, what about the $1.2 trillion that the Feds just printed up? Where is that money coming from on top of the trillions already being spent? Its all about destroying our free market system. Zimbabwe tried it and now you need a wheel borrow full of money to purchase a cup of rice. Its about time Obama started to act like the President of the United States and not like a celebrity. Comedy show BULL!!!!!
Relax, Daman! You sound so bitter! Your guy had 8 years to learn how to be presidential and it never happened!
How does someone as dense as you ever survive into adulthood?
I was not for GW but I kind of agree with Daman on this one. If you jump on one, then in all fairness you have to have the same treatment of the other. I have friends who have special needs children and it hurts every time someone makes an offhand remark and for it to be the president, that had to really hurt. Yes, GW did and said tons of things that were totally wrong but to say that now no one is allowed to criticize Obama because of that just doesn't make sense. It's nice he apologized but the part that kind of got me was that it didn't say HE recognized the mistake. It says the White House did which kind of tells me one of his staff did and that was disheartening.
I was offended by Pres. Obama's remark because I am a mother of a 9-year old special needs child and my child LOVES to participate in the Special Olympics (bowling, soccer and basketball). My child has partial mobility issues but she enjoys bowling, and soccer and basketball and it makes her feel PROUD of her accomplishments despite her disability. This is not something you just laugh about and I wish...people need to be EDUCATED regarding this. It's just sad that a lot of people still makes fun of other people's disability. What if they were in their position?
Smart Dude is obviously JUST THE OPPOSITE (idiot BOY)...
Let's put this in perspective. What if a conservative white president had said, " I am so bad at working. When I work I only work at the same pace as a N****R." Same thing, making fun of himself, no harm meant, not thinking, not meaning to disparage blacks...
SAME THING... And YET THE LIBERALS GIVE OBAMA A PASS... SHOWS THEIR TRUE COLORS...
Chalk one up for Teleprompter Prez! Get him away from his teleprompter and you get these off handed remarks and a lot of: uh, uh, uh, huh, uh, etc., etc. ad nauseum. Right, Dubya would have been crucified by the libturd media (which is ALL of the major networks and urban newspapers), especially with the likes of these MSLSD clowns: Keith Overbite, Chris "Screwball on Screwball" Matthews and of course lets not forget Rachel "The Dike" Madow. You libs are just a bunch of pompous a-s-s-e-s.
Someone please explain to me why everything Obama does is excuseable? Why is it every other president has had to explain, re explain, apologize and re apologize for every little mis step and here the media so easily forgives Obama? Whats so special about him? He should be held accountable for his blunders as much as ever other president should and has been. i think the special olympics should be outraged! There was absoulutly nothing funny about what he said. It was ignorant period! And why the hell is the president still campaining anyway...he needs to get his rear back to Washington and work...the days for campaining ended long ago. Or is this all he is good at?
Trish Shelten,
Wow! Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid! You bring the GOP and Fox into this. They're not even part of the issue. Can't stick to or defend your position.
Daily Kos is making a joke out of his comments, pretty frickin insensitive. Nail W for every slip of the tongue but Obama gets a pass.
Any sane person knew what he meant but us parents of disabled kids can't just give him a pass. Obviously, the "Savior" needs some more education.
HE'S DEPICABLE
It's interesting how Obama is trying to downplay this and YET if someone made a racial remark about his wife or his daughters, the whole country would be up in armsÂ
Remember Imus and several others?    Fair is fair, is Imus was fired, then Obama should be impeached. His comment was very hurtful and condiscending.
just showing his "true" colors....the man is an idiot! love how he spends our tax dollars jet setting around the country going to "town hall" meetings and making appearances on tv to drum up support for a stimulus package that he's already signed off on. quite frankly..... i think he's totally clueless about the real job of the presidency and is just in it for all the "toys" and "perks" that come with the position. these next four years should be very interesting and can't go by fast enough.
Lakeman29
Lets get one thing clear, blacks are not n-gg-rs. If you were intelligent enough to understand the word clearly, you would truly see you fit the true definition of one. Your comment was not only ignorant, but white people around the world should feel a bit ashamed you are in their race category. You make them look bad and pretty stupid right now. How about get out of the trailor (stereotypically white trash use that word to express their hate), and get a grip. It is ok to hate Obama, but it is not ok to use an irrelevant topic to express your stupid ideologies.
NOTE: by your ignorant comment, you may need a dictionary to get a clear meaning of some of the words I used in my post.
Obama didn't mean any harm in the words that he used.
And by the way the people from the Special Olympic even said that, the way that he was trying to phase his words was not intended to hurt anyone.
And its a shame on the people that have noting better to do than blow little things out of portion. There are bigger problems out in the world today, and at least Obama is doing things to trying and help.
We are very sorry Republicans...but...
No, we are not giving this country back to you. You almost destroyed everything we love about this country and that is just not going to happen.
Barack Obama has a sense of humor. When republicans joke around it is usually something like "Women and children need to move a little faster when the bombs come...hehe".
So frankly, it is time for you people to sit in the back seat, let us save this country. And if in a couple years you come to your senses you may wish to thank us.
At this juncture I would like to introduce two new concepts to the class. "Non-sequiter" and "Mind numbingly delusional"... now if you will look to the right you will see our first example.
It does trouble me that our President feels that what he said was a joke. If he had to live with a mental or physical disability then he would not even think up something like the so called 'quip'. If he was truly thoughtful and compassionate a thought like that would not even enter his mind in the first place. It was NOT humorous!
If he had to live with a mental or physical disability, he probably wouldn't be our President, and what he said wouldn't have made the news.
If he had to live with a mental or physical disability, he probably wouldn't be our President, and what he said wouldn't have made the news. what he said wouldn't have made the news.
EXCELLENT.
If you will remember your history, we have had a president with a disability.
Big MO - LMAO!
Mona - I assume you're referring to FDR and if you know your history then you know his disablity was hidden from the public and the press respected his privacy. A far cry from today when every word uttered is dissected and discussed for hidden meanings.
you people are the worst president obama is just tring to fix the mess that bush and the right wing baphoons made every time he has made a mistake he has admitted to it and owned it bush never said sorry about anything EVER.so get over it america has changed and you clowns will have to get use to it go cry with hannity and fox noise....
There's no need to overreact (or not use any type of capitalization). While Obama's comparison was insensitive, he apologized and made up for his mistake. I don't agree with the Democrats but I won't condemn them for verbal mistakes. After all, President Bush made many during his time.
Frankly, there are those who are trying to make a meal out of a snack especially in the press/media for their own purpose imo.
The President's gest, if anything, brought attention to the fact that there is something called the Special Olympics, that many folks do not attend or seem to care about except for those who participate in that event.
Who knows, perhaps many more people may now check out the Special Olympics and may even attend or have their disabled family members participate.
No doubt the Republican PC police will be out in force to try to spin this into something negative if they can. Will they succeed? From my perspective I doubt it.
With regards the President attending town hall meeting all over the country and appearing on Jay Leno, this is not about being in campaign node like the talking heads in the media and some polititians are trying to suggest.
The President is simply not allowing those in Washington to keep him in a bubble (isolated), to be fed information that has been filtered through someone else, who decides what is important enough for him to know, thus losing contact with the masses of Americans and their concerns and/or to have what he is saying filtered through or by the media, like it appears happened to President Bush.
Still on the fix the mess trip huh? Obama's Congress isn't fixing anything...they just keep messing it up more...and then he signs their stupid bills & plans without even knowing whats in them...he's too busy publicizing himself...He sure does like the spot light..while Pelosi & Reid & Dodd & Geithner do more damage running this country..
He's a LIB and libs don't give a damn about the American people. This bleeding heart mentality they display is all for show. They could really give a big whoop about the everyday little people. It's all about their arrogant little selves and the quest for power.
ppplmn, whaaaat a stupid, assinine non sequitor statement you just made. You dummy, Sarah Palin, HAS a downs syndrome child (plus several other children) and she is in the public life. Why don't you just crawl back under the rock you just crawled out from and leave the real issues to the adults, okay idiot!
I don't normally respond to these kind of ridiculous remarks , but for some reason i find that most of you really think you know what the Preident meant!!!! Well we don't know and we really need to stop assuming and listen carefully. What he said was about himself and not about anything or anyone else. Get a grip and do what you need to do to make this a better country for everyone including the disabled .
Hard to believe that all the anti-President folks have never misspoke in their lives. The guy was poking fun at himself and granted there may be better word choices but its not like he lied about weapons of mass destruction!
Barack Hussein Obama is my President. I wanted him for President, I voted for him to become President. I admire Michell Obama as much as I do the President. I absolutely love that they don't put on airs. I love how they both roll up their sleeves and set out do what they feel needs to be done. I truly love having a working First Family who are not afraid to pitch in and get their hands dirty. I love that they are determined to remain who they are and who they have been. I approve of what he is trying to do. I believe that he and his cabinet can do the job. I love that he is proud enough of what American's produce that he was not ashamed nor embarrassed to give classic movies as a gift in tribute of our country's imagination and creativity. The rest of the world seeks to do it as well, but they are not there yet.
I like Joe Biden and have found no reason to doubt either of them nor the decisions that have been made. I believe in the people he has selected for his team as the best and most suitable people available. I like that they are working through all the land-mines set in place to defeat his efforts. I like that he has brought the gift of intellect back into fashion. I like that he is kind and courteous and do not believe he said anything to slight anyone. I believe he merely compared his difficulties on learning an unfamiliar sport requires as much attention and work with that of others who also have to focus and work hard to overcome.
And as MY PRESIDENT, he deserves my upmost respect and support. He has it.
I applaud you Opinion8ed!!!! As an educated person, and as a true American, you could not have said it better. I proudly stand by you and with you!!!!!!!!!
just get over it. the people in this country really have to get some thick skin and stop taking everything to heart. that's the problem with people in general today, you can't say anything without someone being offended by it so just ignore it and move on
What do you mean by 'just get over it?' People with disabilities don't just get over it not do they take it so llightly. That IS the problem of our society today - many say things that are hurtful to someone else and they don't care!
ANYTHING said by ANYONE can be potentially hurtful to listeners. I think that too many of us have forgotten that poor taste is allowed in this country. I think if we worried more about improving OURSELVES and less about the faux pas of others, we would all be much better off.
What specificially was hurtful in his comment? He was putting down his own lack of bowling skill - not attacking disabled people.
It must be exhausting to get offended by every little thing.
Right on, Little Nobody! You nailed it! If the MEDIA would just stop reporting on this stupid stuff, we could likely get this country back on course again. Personally, I blame the MEDIA for the country's downturn. The MEDIA just makes it worse & worse every day.....
The liberal mind is amazing. Talk about having it both ways all of the time. If this were ANY Republican the comments defending BO would be totally flipped. He ,BO, screwed up. Admit it. And move on. Liberalism is a mental disorder. Absolutely no consistency with the liberal comments. It does show why he almost always uses a teleprompter.
You've got that right, reggie! We truly have become a nation of whiners. Oops, now I'm sure I've offended one of the whiners. Damn, my bad. Oops, I swore, now I've offended the Religious Right. Sorry, I screwed up. Oops, I said, "screwed." Now I've offended Planned Parenthood. Sheesh! I'm going back to bed.
Hey, you Libs started this PC nauseum. Now, when one of your drones makes a HUGE gaffe, you're ready to talk about, "how ridiculous all this political correctness is, let's move on to the important issues". Well, you jerks are the ones who served up all this PC crow now EAT IT!
Wow, Reggie, you just offended people with psychiatric disorders....you called liberalism a "mental disorder." MY GOD, I hope that you realize the pain and suffering you have caused with your off-handed remark! You need to apologize immediately to the millions of people who suffer from mental disorders! You have no idea how they suffer and yet you trivialize their suffering with your off-handed and glib remarks.
Ya, see how easy it is for all of us to slip with our comments?
mel7190,
So how exhausted are you and the left after the last 8 years?
I'm just astonished that people still actually watch Leno!
Seriously, if Bush made that kind of comment this website would have been ALL over it. Keith Olberman would be foaming at the mouth ready to destroy Bush but instead MSNBC just downplays it. Just like the many other eggs that Obama has laid since he's taken office.
If Bush had said it, we would have accepted it as his usual gaffs. No one would have said a thing if Bush said this - it would be expected, considering he made more gaffs than he made sense when he spoke.
People are correct - get over it -move on.....
Umm, bull crap. Bob is exactly right and I think you know it...
If we had called for Bush's impeachment every time he made a gaff, there would have been a call to impeach him everyday he opened his mouth.
Wouldn't that have been nice.....then the country wouldn't be in this horrible condition. I am not saying Bush caused it, but he certainly did NOTHING to stop the decline.
BS.
Olbermann called Obama on the remark. Besides which, the President had called and apologized to the president of the Special Olympics hours before the clip aired on TV. It was a poor jest, but so minor - get over it. At least he's not joking about how much easier his job would be if he were a dictator. Where was your conservative outrage when W said that? We got more serious issues to worry about than the President making self-depreciating jokes that almost everyone in the US has made themselves.
yorkiedoglover, what about V.P. "gaffey duck" Joe Biden? Talk about a guy that puts his foot in his mouth time and time again. BO has made a lot of gaffes himself. It's just that the media won't show it. You have to dig to find it. Bush, however, was headlines whenever he misspoke. I don't think this was done on purpose. But you have to admit he f-ed up. Then move on.
I heard NBC edited the show as to not show his comments. Did anyone hear this?
Seriously, if Bush made that kind of comment this website would have been ALL over it. Keith Olberman would be foaming at the mouth ready to destroy Bush but instead MSNBC just downplays it.
Yeah, I'm sure Rush and company won't even mention it. Why does ANYONE listen to ANY of these entertainers, left or right? They are just running their mouths to get you to tune in to watch ads.
Unless I'm mistaken, Keith Olbermann was the first one to point out this gaffe. He brought it up on his show before the President's appearance on the Tonight Show had even aired.
hmmm. How about we create a list and see which president would have the longest list of f ups. Get over it.
I think it was an honest blunder with no ill intent. Ironically, if Bush 43 had done this, Maddow and Oberman would have fodder for a week. So in spirit of MSNBC, President Obama is "the worst person in the world....."
Totally inappropriate. Being a teacher of students with special needs, I don't think disabilities is anything to joke about. Many of my students who participated in the Special Olympics excelled in these events. It is sometimes difficult to get our students/children to participate in activities such as the Special Olympics & for them to hear the President of the United States make fun of them can cause devastating self-esteem/self-confidence problems. What has taken parents/teachers years to build up can be shot down by one uncaring remark. I don't believe this man is truly sorry for what he said--he's just trying to save face. He has lost my respect.
I totally agree with you. As a mother of a child with special needs, I was totally offended! My little guy is only 6 and will never know what Obama said but others are old enough to hear and understand what he meant. Obviously he has never been to a Special Olympic event. Any bowler on a Special Olympic team would have easily SMOKED him!!!!
And do you think that any of the millions and millions of people that voted for President Obama really cares at this point, what someone like you thinks?! He has the respect of more people in this country and around the world then any leader in modern history. He's not perfect, but he is trying very hard, plus he was handed a pile of crap that he has to turn into chocholate pudding. Why? Because your prior leader was out to lunch when it came to knowing what was really happening to the average guy "way down here". You stick with your new leader, Rash Limpballs baby, and maybe he can buy an island for all of you and call it Land of the Lost.
Your comments just demonstrated how uncaring millions of Americans are. If we truly want change & equality for all (which should include people with disabilities), then it needs to begin at the top. Obama has to set an example--yes, he is going to make mistakes, but he really should be able to think more quickly on his feet before using an analogy that could hurt someone who is our equal even if they have disabilities. If he can so easily offend his fellow Americans, what might happen if something inappropriate slipped out with an International leader. If we truly care about our fellow man, we will all realize this was an inappropriate comment to have been made by our President. It surprises me how quickly you judge & assume that because someone thinks what he said was inappropriate that that person is a Republican. You are incorrect. As an American I support my President, but he represents us all & must be careful about what he says--the whole world is watching. If he wants to keep my respect, he needs to show respect for others. The statement he made had absolutely nothing to do with whether he was Democrat or Republican. If you had a disability or had worked with young people with disabilities, you would know first hand how this statement could negatively impact them. I am not a supporter of Rush & do not see how he has anything to do with the president's comment. We all (not just our president) need to think of how our words might affect others before speaking. He appeared to be trying to be funny & did it at the expense of others. I can guarantee you he would think differently if one of his daughters had a disability.
Oh, get off your high horse, the man feels bad, what would make YOU happy, castration? You sound like a child.
How many times are we going to except OBAMA apologizing....or he was just too tired to show the visiting dignitary some attention. The gifts that are given from the US to our foreign leaders, that are hilarious, (then of course Hillary means hilarious), you can't just keep making gaffes and apologizing for them. It is ridiculous.
Anne, Unfortunately, it appears that you have not read the question that was asked. The question was about the appropriateness of Obama's comment about comparing his skills at bowling to someone with disabilities. The question has nothing to do with party affiliation or Rush Limbaugh. Where in the world did you come up with a thought such as castration? I don't believe anyone would wish that for the President of the United States. I personally admire what he is trying to do to get our country back on track. I simply stated that he needs to be aware and sensitive of what he says in the public eye because with the media attention our leaders receive, it can and does hurt others. I'm sure he will learn a great deal from this mistake he made and will make better choices of words in the future. It might even be good that he made a mistake with the people who know him in our country so that he won't make future mistakes when the situation is more critical. It sounds like you're having a really bad day, and I hope it improves for you. A person in a right frame of mind would not spout off senseless comments unless something has happened to upset them terribly. God bless you.
Annelouise, hehehehe! I love how you libstains get all worked up over Rush. Ya'll are so infested with envy and jealousy over Rush that your forehead veins are bursting at the seams, hahahaha! Oh God, you morons make me laugh so hard. Rush isn't even a politician (just a lowly radio commentator). I guess what he says must have a ring of truth; otherwise, why are you morons so obsessed with the guy? Hehehehehehehehehehe! LMAO!!!
No my dear Mona - Im having a beautiful day down here in SW florida, just got out of the pool. You're backpeddling from your 1st comment. If you support our President, then get over this and keep your mouth shut when it comes to small indiscretions. You're not a republican? Prove it. I think you are and I think you are also a liar.
Anne, I think you must need glasses--you're still not reading the posts. Sounds like you spent the day drinking by the pool. I still think what Obama said was inappropriate for the reasons I gave and I will leave it at that. Go sleep it off.
No dear Monotone, I am reading. You're not understanding or being honest.
Let's get something clear. I have heard the individuals from the Special Olympics even admit that our President was not speaking about disabled individuals. He was talking about himself. My goodness Mona, being a teacher shouldn't you have known this. I pray your class size is only one!!!!
Had any republican made that remark Olbermann would automatically nominate him "Worst Person in the World." Let's see how fast that happens with Obama.
"Worst Person in the World"? He would have demanded he be impeached!!! The liberal left are a bunch of hipocrits and believe they are the only ones who are right and the rest of the world are nothing but a bunch of idiots.
you are so over the top with ridiculousness, that what you say isn't even taken seriously. Keep following your own "sensitive and politically correct" Rash Limpballs - and please, leave the rest of us normal people alone.
annelouise, Rush Limbaugh, Politically Correct??? Hahahahahahahah!! There you go again girl, making me LMAO. Have you stopped to think about how STUPID what you are saying sounds. Of course not, that's why you are a Leftist Libstain, hahahahahahahahahaha! Us "normal" people, please, please, please, stop before you kill me!
It's time for the people in power to understand that the bashing they gave to the last President, deservedly or not, always comes back. It's a two way street. If you give it out, you need to take it as well.
That is about the silliest thing typed on this board so far today.
annelouise, I guess the truth does hurt, right! But, then again, you Libs believe in only a one way street. Well guess what, you fools now need to sit back and enjoy the ride. Because every time Obambi ears gaffes, we will see to it that the whole world knows about it. Two can play that silly game, fool!
Veritas Vos Liberabit!
If you say it then you think it!
Oh sure, like teret patients? Ever listen to GW?! And he never had the sense to know what he was even saying half the time! At least President Obama had the decency to say he was sorry. GW never appologized for any of his gaffs, because he didn't remember saying them. I hope he's enjoying his retirement, cause I know I am.
annelouise, it's Tourette's Syndrome. Now you have offended a segment of society. Do I hear an apology?
No of course you don't need an apology from me. My reply was to Soovivers -You misunderstood what I wrote. I ment that someone that has tourette's say things, that doesn't mean they mean it. Im not a great speller, but if you feel the need to correct, go for it!
annelouise, you have just been voted for and won, the biggest dumb a-s-s poster of the day award. Congratulations!!! hehehehehehe!
And I thank you Charlie, I really do, because if defending President Obama upsets you and the rest of your kind this much, it only means I have done what I set out to do. Can you call Rash Limpballs and ask him for an oxycotin, I have a pain in my a-- from reading all the rupert murdock inspired bs on this thread.
Annelouise I am with you. You are the voice of reason in the mist of the storm. Walmart must have had a sale on stupidity, and someone bought over their share! Thanks for helping the economy! However, try to invest in a bit of understanding, intelligence, and plain common sense.
As a society we really need to move away from our overzealous PC nature. It was just a joke.
Not funny! Don Imus said something jokingly. What do you think about what happened to him. You see, that's the problem with liberalism. They always want it both ways. Just so it fits their agenda. I for one don't think we should use our handicapped to joke about. But, that's just me.
It has nothing to do with liberals. It's human nature. Conservatives are just as guilty.
Reggie it has nothing to do with liberal or conservative nature. It has to do with us as Americans being just too PC to the detriment of society. We will never have social unity in this nation as long as words carry so much weight. He said the comment tongue-in-cheek talking about his own performance. As for the liberal media, Keith Obermann yesterday already said something about the comment and how it could have negative reprecussions so I really don't see any bias either way.
It has everything to do with liberalism ! - When Sen. Trent Lott made a comment at a birthday party, there was national outrage and he had to resign as the senate majority leader. The President of the United States makes a comment on public television to millions of people, and the same libs who were outraged at Sen Lott now have nothing to say. Where's the outrage? Where's the call for resignation? These people are the same ones who said, "what's wrong with the president getting a "bleep bleep" in the oval office?; So what if he lied to the grand jury, it was only sex." I guess it's all what the definition of the word is, is.
Totally agree John. It seems every time a Republican does something stupid the have to resign immediately. But not a Democrat. Oh no! Leave them alone. They really didn't mean it. Afterall they are such compassionate people. Liberalism is a mental disorder.
I agree with yorkiedoglover... I have 3 special needs sons and was in no way offended at the comment. The President was merely laughing at himself. We really do have more pressing issues to worry about and need to stop creating unnecessary drama.
Finally, a voice of reason, who knows what it is like to live with special needs children. Again, it is the MEDIA who keep bring all this crazy stuff up, so we don;t focus on what really needs to be focused on. You are a GREAT parent!
my3sons: I totally agree....I have a nephew who participates in Special Olympics....this was self-deprecating humor on Obama's part...not bashing special needs people....what utter nonsense....what unabashed outrage over...nothing.
Thanks for your sensibility. America has such a long way to go and at least this guy is trying. I wouln'd want his job.
Someone said "Our economy is in shambles and people want to get upset about an offhand remark? Get over it."
Their right, our economy is in shambles and all it seems our savior Obama is doing is campagining!!! Who is governing? He has spent more time with his Wednesday night cocktail parties, traveling and wasting more taxpayers money to sign a bill he could have done at the White House, doing Town Hall meetings to a selected crowd who cheers him on and applauds his empty words, and us idiots falling all over ourselves over him, for what? If someone could please tell me one constructive thing he has done other than push this country towards socialism I would be happy to hear about it. Are the people of this country so enamored by this orator that they don't see the forest for the trees? Wake up! We are going deeper and deeper into debt, government is coming into our homes and telling us what we can say, what we can't say, the constitution is being torn to pieces and no one seems to be looking beyond his words.
JOJO...I assume you have NO comment to make about the topic. The media needs to get over the comment about the special olympics because I am sure the president meant NO harm.
I agree, JOJO. He won the election. So stop campaigning and do your job. He embarrassed the US in his meeting the the British Prime Minister, had no formal state dinner, (which is ALWAYS done with heads of state of countries that are our allies) because he said he was tired. Maybe he should stop bowling, playing basketball and working on his Final Four bracket ... then maybe he'd be rested enough to do his job. Give me a break! He's taking this country into a financial sewer. He doesn't seem to know how to do anything without throwing our money at it.
Geeze the right wingnuts......are out in full force today. Townhall meetings? That was McCains specialty. He sucked at them btw. Seems to me that the Leno Show was a vast town hall meeting as vast amounts of the American public watch it. Best watch it when you call ne 1 fat, stupid etc. etc. PC police are everrrrrrrywhere..........
I think GW did more to destroy the constitution than any sitting president dead or alive.
We REALLY need to start insisting that the MEDIA stop thinking that everything is news. I had to turn away from Morning Joe this morning because I was tired of hearing this being a headline news. I hope no news channel say anything about this past today. I have a disabled son and I KNEW it was not meant in any NEGAATIVE way.
My disabled son wouldn't even think it was bad. We are all in a roll to play. Is being in Special Olympics a roll lesser than anyone else’s? I think Not! It could have been said "like the second grade". Would all second grader’s be taking offence? I think Not! Get over the drama. His score will improve and then he will have something for all of the “Other” bowler’s to complain about on bowling night. They can say “I’m bowling like President Obama tonight”. Now There’s a Joke everyone can be happy with. Even President Obama.
I have a friend who is mentally challenged and no it wouldn't affect her to hear it, but then she is mentally challenged. It affected me though, she bowls in the Special Olympics and she would love to have that for a score. Just keep opening your mouth OBAMA and stick your big foot in it. Jay Leno needs to know to give you the questions before you go on stage since you won't have your teleprompter with you.
I have a disability. I have lived with my disability for about 25 years. I personally found the remarks funny. It shows he is human.
What I found so funny is that we are so quick to judge and condemn others. But when something happen to ourselves like this, we blame others for our own mistake.
Those who have never made a mistake, have the right to judge and condemn.
surrat.....I am glad that people like you know that none of us on Earth walk on water. We ALL have at one time or another had the problem of "open mouth, insert foot. The President is no different. He is as much human as everyone. I really have more respect for him now since he caught himself and quickly apologized. That holds merit in my book. I know people (a lot of them are my family) that has to put blame on others all the time....not themselves. So come on people get over this and move onto more important issues. HIS INTENTIONS WERE NEVER TO INSULT ANYONE OR ANYTHING!!! GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!
Why is he even on the Tonight Show...Hey Barack...you won...you can stop campaigning and start leading!!!! Just another example of this guy's lack of leadership. Shame on his handlers for forgetting the teleprompter!
Yeah he should do like his predecessor and head out for a nice long vacation!
The comment was made without thinking 'of course' that is a trait of OBAMA'S when he doesn't have his teleprompter he makes these mistakes. He should not have been on a celebrity talk show, but hey he considers himself "HOLLYWOOD" type celebrity. He is still campaigning.
I don't think he said it with any ill-intent. But, nonetheless, it was inappropriate. Hey, we can't hold Mr. President responsible for anything he says that's not on a teleprompter. We'll just ignore it like the many other ridiculous things he says while speaking off-the-cuff.
I am sure that the President intended no harm by his remark. People make remarks like that all the time, as well as using terms like "retard" and "spaz" which also disparage the disabled, whether or not they intend them that way. But I think people need to realize that these types of comments are offensive to some, and that it is really NOT okay to say these types of things. People don't think twice about saying these types of things because there is an underlying idea that disabled individuals, and particularly those with mental disabilities, are somehow not really part of our society and need not be afforded the same degree of respect. Some minority groups are now considered "untouchable" and an "offhand" remark like that about those groups would never be tolerated. Yet the disabled are not given the same degree of respect. We need to become more sensitive to ALL differences. And the President's comments on national TV certainly did not promote that sensitivity.
I totally agree with SpeechGirl. People with disabilities are still considered by many to be second class citizens and not worthy of the same respect as everyone else. I don't believe the President meant any harm, but his comment reflects the fact that it is still somewhat acceptable in "polite" society to make jokes at the expense of people with disabilities.
when your young and immature sometimes this kind of joke is used. after you mature you relies how cowardly they sound. (making fun of a handicapped person to build yourself up) how low!
THIS IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES ON NATIONAL TV!!!
All you have to do is go back and watch all the outtakes that Letterman has shown on his show of the bumbling, mumbling, out of touch George W. -- How painful that must be for you to watch! AND HE WAS THE PRESIDENT FOR 8 LONG YEARS! Good God, what he left and what President Obama has to deal with now is criminal.
Dragging President Bush into the arguement just to defend President Obama makes your arguement look WEAK. I'd be willing to bet if it had been Bush or McCain making that comment, you'd be OUTRAGED.
Your darn right I'm outraged, GW said we needed to be in Iraq, that wasn't just a gaff, that was an outright lie. You pick on the little stupid things like a poorly placed comment that President Obama has already appologized for but yet, you let your last leader, lead you by the nose into a war that has killed THOUSANDS of men and women. Where are your priorities?
annelouise, JF is just making the point that you are presenting a retarded argument. You can't get a defendant off the hook in court for burglary by arguing that someone else committed murder the day before.
This kind of statement CAN be insulting to some people. While many folks make similar kinds of statements in their own lives, the president was making this 'joke' publicly. There should have been further considerations for the content..
Why is this a rep/dem issue? im sure people from both affiliations DO and DONT care.
yea, we do care, he's My President and Im defending him, just like you feel the need to defend a man who brought this country to its knees. He makes a verbal error and appologizes and a lot of you go for his head. Go for the jerk and his sidekick that sent all those troups to die. Get your priorties in order. He feels bad about what he said. What are you going to do about it now.? Ask for his impeachment? Get over it.
I have read over the comments and I'm APPALLED at some of the comments that were made about this I just happen to be a SPECIAL OYLIMPICS ATHLETE SURPRISE PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO WATCH THEIR MOUTH!!!! You never know who might read these comments you folks post
Wow, annelouise. The fact that you don't think a Special Olympics athlete can read or post a response conveys the ignorance of most people about those with disabilities. Ryan Kempf may or may not be a Special Olympics, but the fact that you immediately discredited his claim, shows your stupidity. You are blindly following Obama because you are so ashamed of Bush, which is understandable, but shouldn't Bush's presidency have taught you to be more vigilant instead of taking Obama's word as gospel?
Maybe you should, I don't know, read more. Obama isn't an angel and you clearly aren't an intellectual.
I didnt say a special olympics athlete can't read or post. In fact they probably pick up on things better then you do. Are you an intellectual Harvardgirl? Am I impressed by a bs'ter as yourself? Ah, no.
annelouise you are absolutely right....give it right back to them. PRESIDENT OBAMA will never make as many gaffes and horrid mistakes as George W Bush!!! BUSH is by far the worse president is US history. Making an off-hand comment is nothing like sending our military men and women off to die for a LIE !!! Some people never remove their blinders.
As a matter of fact, I am an intellectual. I go to Harvard, I have intellectually stimulating conversations with my peers and my world renowned professors. It's okay with me that you have an inferiority complex. You can work that out in therapy.
Your rash comments and complete lack of focus and argument in your posts makes me feel sorry for you. Also, when trying to make fun of me because you think I don't actually go to Harvard, you might want to use correct grammar.
I see that you have posted a lot on here; do you not have a job? Or so you just suck at it? You are the reason that Republicans are going crazy, they don't want to support lazy people like yourself with their tax dollars. Do everyone a favor, since you're such a staunch Democrat it would appear, and get a job or go do something to help stimulate the economy. Go support your president that you're so overwhelmingly in love with. I also love how you failed to address the points I made in my post. You just decided to attack me, which is quite laughable. Good luck with your pathetic life.
Harvardgirl, to enjoin the battle I would like to ask, are republicans proposing that a president cannot have a sense of humor? What is the essence of this sense?
I would propose that almost all humor has an element of offense to a group, person, or idea, and that it is the nature of humor to give access to discussion. If so, then a conversation without offense would inherently avoid humor.
I would propose that we elect candidates because they are identifiable. In that identity we see ourselves. If so, we cannot hold them to any standard we would not hold ourselves to.
Unlike my more combatant liberal friends, I myself am curious how a teapot brews a tempest. And if context is still an important element in mens rea. ???
Care to counter or share?
Isn't this supposed to be about the bowling boo-boo? Please click my link and read my insightful article regarding the gaffe. It's a bit more on track with the topic at hand that this back and forth slamming.
