I bet all the yes votes comes from the hypocritical drinkers. I am a non-drinker, however I feel if the victim's family can show forgiveness I can too. Also, it was a tragic mistake and if we as a people are never forgiven for mistakes where would we be now. Guess what, everyone has made mistakes in their lifetime.
I am not a lock 'em up & throw away the key type. My issue is that justice should be the same for everyone in this country. If a poor man had been driving drunk and took a life that morning, that man would be doing 15 years.
So saying your sorry makes it alright? I bet your holier than thou attitude would not prevail if it was your loved one!!
There is no greater crime than killing somebody.
The concept crosses all borders.. civilian.. military... religious...
30 days for killing somebody is beneath contempt.
The Judge should be disbarred.
I am willing to accept an apology if someone accidentally dings my car door, or calls someone a name. An apology for taking a human life while driving drunk, (which is illegal) is not something I could do. He "manned up" because he knew there was no way out of what he did. Then he buys off the family and the judge. Sure am glad you aren't a judge too.
It is an embarrassment to the nation when a wealthy man so clearly buys his way out of legal trouble (especially so when a person is killed as part of the crime). The sentence handed down in Florida is obscene. I applaud the commissioner on this stance (as well as others he has taken in the past). I am not suggesting that Mr. Stallworth should never be allowed to play, but certainly not this year!
No, HE KILLED A HUMAN BEING!!!! He should be banned from football for life. You or I would be in prison for many years, not 30 days. Our justice system and these corrupt and Liberal judges has to be reformed so that Justice is truly blind to wealth and celebrity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does the name Ray Lewis ring a bell? Bar fight, dead man and he goes to the pro bowl how many time???
Donte was dead wrong but he knew that and did all in his power to cooperate with authorities, legal issues and the family of the man who died. No poor me out of his mouth.
He didn't carry a gun into a bar and shoot himself or others. He did break the law but that won't help him pay restitution (if there can be any such thing) for the death of a loved one. But he has made that committment and he needs to be able to carry it out. I'm sure no one taught him any other profession when he was in school, I may be wrong on that, not sure.
I was shocked when I saw the sentence until I read the whole thing. That judge has him by the neck for the next 10 years and he will never drive again ever. Show me how many other drunk drivers ever get that sentence. You may want to provide proof, I was a correction officer for 15 years and I never saw it.
Please, spare me the righteous indignation. This is par for the course when anyone (celebrity or not) can afford a good defense attorney. The legal system worked as it usually does, and taking into account the cooeration and the agreement/forgiveness of the victim's family 1-3 months is not surprising. Anyone remember Leonard Little? In 1999 convicted of the same crime had only 90 days in jail.
It's only Goodell's faux outrage over the incident that is ridiculous. Little's punishment from the NFL = 8 game suspension. Then when he was caught (but not convicted) of driving drunk AGAIN a few years later? Nothing. So slapping Stallworth with an "indefinite" suspension is not equitable. Especially considering his crime was unintentional, unlike the many players every year who commit intentional crimes and get nary a slap on the wrist from the league - see the entire Bengals lineup. But Goodell acts almost upsaet that Stallworth pled guilty and owned up to his mistake. Whereas I bet does nothing to Plax while his (intentional crime) case is in legal system limbo for God knows how long. Goodell has only taken this opportunity to show what a hypocritical @ss he really is. Hooray for the new fraudulently sanctimonious (but only if the legal system says it has to be) NFL!!!
I think that when judges make these types of decisions, there jobs should be
in jeopary. I'am pretty disgusted with our legal system right now. I think judges
should be held accountable for there actions
He should be in jail, and banned from football, for as long as his victim is dead.
Sorry or not, someone is dead. It cant be undone. Some guy gave him a check for millions and he promptly kills someone after having too much to drink.
Stupid should hurt, and this kind of stupidity is inexcuseable. 30 days...you gotta be freakin kidding.
LIFE LONG BAN..thats what I'm hoping for.....maybe Vick can get him a nice construction job.
What is an indefinite suspension? The Commissioner could reinstate him after he finishes his 30-day jail sentence and he could be ready to suit up before the first game of the season. Or he could suspend him for 8 to 16 games. Therefore, I reserve judgment on whether an indefinite suspension is fair.
I really don't understand the apologists..
fessing up to the crime was a given... he had no way out of it...
He screwed up and he knows it sure...
That doesn't mean he should get a pass back to an advantaged life.
I'll be disappointed in Goodell if Donte doesn't sit out a minimum of 1 year.
Though I personally believe it should be a ban for life.
This guy should be spending the next ten to twenty in jail - not having to worry about if he's going to play football later this year. Oh man, he fessed up! WOW. That makes a huge difference in my eyes. If only Scott Peterson had fessed up earlier, maybe he wouldn't have gotten such a the death penalty and could have been out fishing at this point. Right. How flawed is that way of thinking? Wow, he messed up, he should be out to play football? Are you high?
Should your employer be able to fire you for having made a mistake ? This is a very tragic situation but he has never done anything but be stand up about it. Let the courts deal with his punishment not his boss.
"Let the courts deal with his punishment not his boss"
AMEN TO THAT
I hope all of you that are judging this situation can bare your own crosses. Run a red light/stop sign, strike another vehicle, do bodily damage to another human being. Your reply: My insurance company will pay from it. Never do you see how you have ruined someone's life because you broke the law and got any with it with no criminal punishment. At least Dante stood up and faced his music, he did not make excuses, he immediately reached out to the deceased love ones. I only wish if any of you are ever in a situation similar to this one that you conduct with half of the integrity he has.
I can't believe that is all he got for killing someone.I guess if you have money you can do anything you want and get away with it. If he gets to come back to play so quick why can't Vick? Vick got slammed for killing or mistreating an animal and that's worse than killing a human life ,come on. If he gets to come back I hope they suck and his career does too.

You betcha. Good Call. Way beyond Vick and his dogs. Never see another NFL paycheck would be the right thing.
