The whole era's tainted, yes, but of course it tarnishes them. Ortiz and Ramirez were the faces of those teams.

Of course not. Unless all the players on the teams they beat were clean - which we know isn't true. If the Red Sox' championships are tarnished, then so are the Yankees in the '90s, the Angels, Marlins, cardinals, White Sox and any other championships during the whole era. Makes no sense at all to point to one tema, unless all the others were clean.

This is the problem - unless they publish all 100 names, and remember, these players were guaranteed privacy at the time - and unless we are prepared to disqualify every team who had a player with a positive test, and unless you get a better scientific test that has a higher percentage of accuracy and unless the folks who want to pry into these so-called private tests are willing to have the same process applied to them at work - I say: Baseball drew a line in the sand. We have better testing, and more complete application of tests and a process for dealing with the players who test positive. Let's move forward. Otherwise, I want all sports reporters and sportscasters tested for drugs, prescription or otherwise, to see if they are perhaps juicing to stay hyperactive for their careers - and the results to be leaked periodically to the public for years. None who test postive should receive any kind of award, and any whom later leaks name as positive (marijuana, meth you name it), well their awards should be stripped. Obviously whatever they are taking impacts their ability to write, speak in front of a camera and get the story. Once we have done that, then I will approve of treating baseball players with six year old positive tests for unnamed substances differently. Otherwise, lets move on, folks. Let's deal with keeping the present as clean as possible with as much respect for the fans and the game as possible - and let the sports media find another cheap attention getting device.

I still love the Red Sox. Besides, the TEAM won, not just those players however great. They shouldn't have their win tarnished too.
I have time saying the titles should be revoked. I realize that it is mostly the ardant Sox haters that will come out of the woodwork to claim that this particular title is tainted. In all reality, I belive that most sports and baseball fans in general are mostly numb to this information at this point.
If Ortiz and Manny were the only two players on the field using PED's, strip the titles. I fully believe that each team they ran accross in the 04' playoffs had at least one player who was using. It is a shame but the court of public opinion is now of a "guilty until proven innocent" mindset.

Currently, any accusation can be made with no hopes of clearing ones' name. This is why the entire list has to be made public. Perhaps they are indeed guilty of use in 2003. That would taint that year, but they lost to the NY Steroid Kings in the ALCS that year. Why should this taint '04 & '07? There was testing in those years, and no positives were reported.
No I dont think it tarnishes the titles. This was the steriod era, alot of other player were taken then enhancers. Any team that won the title then could be considered tarnished. If those players were the only few who did these things and it was " unfair " to the other teams/players then yes it would tarnish the 04 title.
If you can tell me with 100% accuracy that NO players from the other teams weren't also juiced up at the time they were playing, then you can take away their titles. But let's talk about the reality of that being the case. Until there's real punishment applied to sports stars for their actions (and not just baseball), none of this will go away. Should all of Michael Vick's victories be taken away? Probably not. There's a few other punishments I have in mind for him though.

If these were individual titles like most home runs or highest batting average for Ramirez or Ortiz then take them away but you can't condemn the rest of the team for those two because it was a team effort.
There is no way on earth the Red Sox beat the Yankees in '04 without Ortiz and Ramirez playing at an extremely high level, one that steroids may have had something to do with.
Ortiz was ehh before 2003 and suddenly raked.

Of course, it seems like everyone was doing it. But of World Series-winning teams in the steroid era, the Red Sox now stand alone in tarnishRA - their two biggest stars were [presumably] on steroids.
Giants with Bonds didn't win a World Series, Clemens didn't win a World Series, McGwire, Palmeiro, etc...
I think this is kind of a big deal just because we don't know of any other 'roidin' champs.
Actually, Clemens won two, 99 and 2000, and to this day I havent heard about any asterisk next to that

Bring me an asterisk! Sweet, discredit to the Yankees. Good times. Although one could argue Clemens was only the face of the 2000 one for all the wrong reasons.
Concerning the titles: It's apparent that MANY players were juicing. Not too big a leap to say the playing field was even. Way too much political logistics to apply individual steroid use to whole teams.
Concerning the players: Release the full list. Anyone who has a failed test gets and asterisk next to any individual achievements.

Were they not taking the roids when they went down 0-3? See yo have to convice me and prove to me that PED's can make a person a better performer. Right now its all speculation. <ost of these drugs do not make you a superstar. The get your body back to where it should be faster. If you look at all the name associated with this stuff you will find a lot of the lower tier players who hit 220 and pitchers with bad era's and w/l records. If these were miracle drugs and made everybody a superstar who would go see that?
Titles shouldn't be tarnished because the Sox beat the Yankees to get there and the Yankees were full of performance-enhancing users themselves. I guess the Sox' steroids were better than the Yankees' steroids....

The Yankees had Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite and (several) others on steroids, as well. And I'm sure every other team in MLB had users back in 2003 (and I'm sure every team today has users of steroids and HGH). The bottom line is: you can't call EVERY championship "tainted" if every team is involved in one way or another.
It's part of the game. Move forward, try to clean it up and stop trying to "taint" two hard-earned championships.
Didn't the Sox win in the first year that there WAS testing? If so, then steroids did not affect their performance. Any other opinion would mean that anyone that tests positive is affected. Not even the Olympics does that!
Let's treat this like they do in the Olympics. Take away Boston's 2007 title and give it to Colorado. The only player on the Rockies caught cheating was Herges, and he was marginal to the team's success at best.
