The question was tasteless. Vick has paid for his crime. Let it go
I wouldn't buy a Vick jersey for my dog, but I wouldn't buy any jersey for my dog. It's a dog. They don't enjoy wearing clothes. What's wrong with you people?!?!?!?!
I agree with Ronnie, the media is always tryng to keep things going. If it were you or your family you would want to subject to go away his time has been done. Can we move on! People in glass houses ......!!
The only thing that would make a Vick dog jersey even more tasteless would be a graphic of Vick's hands around the jersey collar (dog's throat). Let's get back to football, NFL. It's pretty lame to needlessly keep the story alive and even worse to attempt to profit off of it by selling dog jerseys.
Speaking of NFL, is Newsvine going to have a Fantasy league this year? I haven't heard from Hobson and regular season is almost here.
Let's get back to football, NFL.
Here's the thing. They sell dog jerseys anyway.
Dog jerseys.
It's not them trying to extend the Vick story so much as commercializing to the point where you can buy friggin' dog jerseys and then ending up in Whoopsville.
[Apparently, you could order one with 'BAD NEWZ' on the back until a few days ago.]
Sgt. Pepper,
I don't know. I'm pretty sure I won't be allowed to participate this year, after beating Hobson with players during their bye weeks and starting one guy who had retired from the NFL midway through the season.
Yes - only if it was an ANTI-Vick shirt. You know, the ones with him being mauled or skewered on a spike. I do have a pit, and he makes me sick. Thank GOD I don't watch football, time or not, he doesn't deserve to be placed back into the game, those animals that were tortured wont get a 2nd chance at life.
Sure, I would buy a jersey for my dogs -- I have two pit bulls. They would probably pee all over it, though. Also, as long as none of the money goes to Vick -- all to pit bull rescue.
no no no, but hope he thinks ever time he makes a pass thinks of them pore dogs.attacking each other.i hope he dont think this is over. judgment day is coming i hope and pray he talks to god daily.
The only way I would buy my dog a Vick jersey, is if Vick benefited from my purchase. Vick does not deserve all this hatred towards him. He didn't do anything to people, besides he paid his money for the dogs so technically they were his property and the crime was committed on land that he owned. I love dogs also but people need to know where to draw the line. In the bible, GOD gave man dominion over earth and everything contained on this earth, including animals... Dogfighting is a business and those dogs that died were casualties of that specific harsh business. People need nourishment so thousands of cows, chickens, and pigs die daily.. Does every one hate the companies that slaughter them????? These animmals are defenseless also... I know why everyone hates Vick, and its not because of the dog fighting operation... Think about my comments before you say you hate this man...
Your an idiot. Dominion does not = abuse/cruelty or torture. Yes, I'm sure that is what God had in mind when he said that. I'm sure he didn't mean "responsibly". He certainly would not want us to be good stewards. I love when idiots twist the Word.
As far as approving dog fighting as a business...I'm guessing you have less than half your teeth.
As for this comment
"I know why everyone hates Vick, and its not because of the dog fighting operation... Think about my comments before you say you hate this man..."
Oh please do tell me why this man sickens me. I thought it was because he enjoys torturung animals but apparently I'm wrong and you know the real reason. Let me guess, you have a race card you want to pull out of your wallet. Of course, thats always the card to play when you want to excuse someone's behavior. Guess what, I could not stand this guy any less if he was white. The dogs did not care about the color of the man drowning or hanging them- and neither do I.
Please!!!!!! I can tell you don't read the bible.. Animals are a lower class than human beings.. I think you should look in mirror and re-evaluate who the idiot really is.. You are really showing you are the idiot. Michael Vick went to prison for interstate gambling and animal cruelty. He was only charged with animal cruelty because the killings were performed on property that he owned, he didn't kill the animals... The media doesn't want to clarify that for everybody because they want to try and ruin his career because of what he was involved with.. These are facts, check the court papers.. I know the dogs didn't care about skin color, but the judicial system and the media does...
If Vick was white you would probably have sympathy for him because you could relate to him as a brother.. What if he was your brother???? Would you still feel the same way??? Do you feel the same way about animal hunters with those high powered rifles, killing defenseless animals and the mounting their heads on the wall as a trophy????? Vick didn't kill any animals that belonged to other people, they were all owned by him.. He doesn't owe people anything.. Read your bible, and get to know your GOD...
Are you serious? I never said animals were on the same level as human beings. Nice twisting of words. What part of what I said about dominion or God did you not like.
The part that says God did not intend man to torure animals for pleasure? the part about God expecting people to be good stewards? The part that said dominion does not equal abuse? Please genius, tell me what part of that says I do not know/read the Bilbe.
How ignorant are you? "Vick did not kill dogs" If you actually do know how to read, how about reading the plea agreement he signed and admitted to as far as killing dogs.
See link moron- "the court papers"starting with page 8. http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/news/070824_Vick_Statement_Of_Facts.pdf
If Vick was white, I would feel no differently, If he was my brother,I would have kicked his butt and made him stop long ago...or threatened to turn him in!
I'm not a hunting fan. But at least the goal of a hunter is to take the animal in the fastest most efficient way to avoid pain and suffering. Now compare that to letting animals rip each other apart for fun and money. Or hanging, drowning and electicuting animals after such a fight. Apples and oranges you idiot. But of course, you make it black and white.
Exactly what Bible do you read and what God do you believe in that would come down and see his people make dogs/animals fight to the death and then torture them and say..."Well done my good and faithful servant."
Maybe you should not talk about the Bible, obviously you can only parrot common lines but don't understand the context.
hey jumpy.....II Samuel 12:1-6, "The rich man must die, because the lamb was like a daughter to the poor man"
animal life and human life are equal.....Michael Vick not only tortured dogs for fun, he shot them, slammed them, drowned them.....he admitted to doing these things to the FBI, there are witnesses, and Vick, himself admitted to doing these heinous things to James Brown on 60 minutes. I'll drink to that............
I see you're the kind of Christian that gives the rest of us a bad name.
He was only charged with animal cruelty because the killings were performed on property that he owned, he didn't kill the animals...
Beg to differ.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution / December 11, 2007
RICHMOND - Michael Vick only recently owned up to executing pit bulls, but it was too late for his sentencing judge, who threw the book at the fallen NFL star yesterday.
more stories like this
US District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson sentenced the suspended Falcons quarterback to 23 months in prison for his role in a dogfighting operation - a term at least five months longer than what Vick would have received had he been truthful.
Hudson found that Vick had lied to federal authorities. After pleading guilty in August, Vick continued to contend that others killed pit bulls that did not test well as fighting dogs. But in October, after being grilled by an FBI agent for five hours, Vick finally spilled the truth that he "hung" a dog.
During that interview an FBI polygrapher found Vick was being deceptive in denying he killed dogs. After Vick's lawyer, Billy Martin, was told this, he asked Vick about the failed test. At that moment, Martin told Hudson, Vick broke down.
"I did it all," Vick said, Martin related. "I did everything. If you need me to say more, I'll say more."
At the close of the 45-minute sentencing hearing, Vick apologized to the court and his family members, who along with other supporters occupied most of two rows in the packed courtroom.

He confessed to killing at least one dog with his own hands.
I can tell you don't read the bible
Was that supposed to be an insult?
Whoa whoa whoa everyone, no personal attacks here; keep it civil on newsvine, per the COH.
csb-1088703, I agree with this point:
Dominion does not = abuse/cruelty or torture.
As for MrJumpman23
If Vick was white you would probably have sympathy for him because you could relate to him as a brother.. What if he was your brother???? Would you still feel the same way??? Do you feel the same way about animal hunters with those high powered rifles, killing defenseless animals and the mounting their heads on the wall as a trophy?????
Not sure what race has to do with it, but if he were my brother, I would probably take him in for psychiatric help; it takes a lot of rage to engage in dog fighting, especially to kill them yourself, that's just disturbing. No, hunters, if they EAT the animal, then I would probably be ok with, but for just cruel sport, no I don't really like hunting. But also csb-1088703 makes another good point:
But at least the goal of a hunter is to take the animal in the fastest most efficient way to avoid pain and suffering. Now compare that to letting animals rip each other apart for fun and money. Or hanging, drowning and electicuting animals after such a fight.
And using the bible as a grounds to encourage dog abuse/cruelty? Serious?
This is a somewhat disturbing survey. First off, I don't have a dog. I have a cat, and secondly, after what he did, you couldn't pay me one million dollars to be in the same room as the ex-convict, let alone, purchase jersey for a dog!
ridiculous
insipid idiots wasting time and money to pile on!
proud of yourselves that you can hide out and take cheap shots at Vick?
he served his time, get off of it
What a tasteless poll. Nice going NBC. What idiot agreed/allowed this? Next poll-??? "Should a pedaphile wear an "I'm going to Disney shirt?" Wow.
10 deleted, BigBear-1247116 banned, constantly pushing their Vick site.
What is so tasteless about this question? I've got the Vick chew toy and I bought the "stick Vick in the pit" shirt...Think of all the anti Vick products your dog could enjoy.
and for those of you who say "get over it"....too bad, what Vick did will never go away..he's a sociopath and should have a pitt bull permanently attached to his azz! I can't wait for the protesters to kick it into gear at the games!!! I'd love to see him hit so hard on the field that he lays there writhing in pain...I'd raise a beer to that.
Animal lovers worldwide now have access to more than a decade’s worth of proof that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) kills thousands of defenseless pets at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. Since 1998, PETA has opted to “put down” 21,339 adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens instead of finding homes for them.
PETA’s “Animal Record” report for 2008, filed with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, shows that the animal rights group killed 95 percent of the dogs and cats in its care last year. During all of 2008, PETA found adoptive homes for just seven pets.
Just seven animals -- out of the 2,216 it took in. PETA just broke its own record.
Will you raise a beer to PETA????
Why would you assume because I love my dogs and HATE VICK that I am a Peta supporter or Humane Society supporter? I can tell by your post that you are completely unaware and don't care about cruelty to animals and I personally could care less about people of your ilk.
Only no-kill animal shelters should be supported. Would you like the names of some?
Euthanasia doesn't = dog fights/abuse.
That said, PETA doesn't necessarily share the same views as many of those here; first, it is agsinst the LAW to abuse animals, so normal, decent, law-abiding citizens would not like this, doesn't mean they are members of PETA. People who love animals, but still eat meat, would not agree with animal abuse, yet they are not members of PETA. People who just think abuse in general is wrong, and want humane treatment of animals are not always PETA members, in fact its actually quite rare. I could probably ask everyone down my block and they'd be against animal cruelty, but aren't members of PETA. There are also others such as sheplover who might care about animals, but might not share with PETA's or HS political views.
Finally, a few points about that claim. First, it was a press-release by petakillsanimals or some-such, yet if you actually go to:
or search any of the other years (2008 they are not listed), the vast majority are reclaimed by the owners. Second, there are also many reasons for euthanizing animals which I do completely agree with; is it done more often than it should be, yes, and I hate that lack of funds and available homes is the most common reason, but say they take in an animal that Mr. Vick here had previously tortured, is old, dying and suffering, then I would say the humane thing would be to euthanize (the practice of ending a life in a painless manner) the animal.
If you look up naive in the dictionary, there I am, smiling. I hope he has learned his lesson. I hope the work he's doing with the humane society helps reinforce to him why what he did was wrong. I hope he puts his life back together. I hope he becomes an outspoken advocate for the humane treatment of animals. That said, right now I would not buy a Michael Vick jersey for my dog.
I'd buy it for someones dog who thinks this jersey idea is a good practical joke. Then steal there dog, find a fierce dog fighting ring an throw his ass in...HA !!!!
Don't be F O O L' S america race figures into everything / If you don't recognize it your extremely nieve or white
Oh thanks, for the word naive. I'll cherish it ,wrong I think I got my point across Who are you Mrs. Webster ?
remember some of your worst serial killers killed animals as a kid. we all know jeffery domer!..vick is in the same catagory. he did say he did the same awful things to the pits that the others did .he told that to james brown of " 60 minutes"..doesnt matter if vick is black, white or green, i am so tired of the race card. it makes me sick!... anyone that kills a poor animal like he did should be put to death. i guess it made him feel like a BIG MAN!!!!!!!!!!!not!hesare. he is sorry because he got caught and lost all his money. i will never watch football again. what is this teaching our kids?
the jersey deal is awful and just a way for vick to make more money! i would only buy one for my dogs to tear up as a chew toy!!!!anyone with a heart would feelthe same. i hope he chokes on his football, better yet, maybe someone will break his neck!!!!!
