If we start allowing people to sue everytime a joke is made about them by a comedian comedy will be through. I think there is a deeper issue with the relationship between this mother-dauther - in - law and it has nothing to do with the stand up routine. I hope the judge throws it out of court.

I have a Jewish mother-in-law and if this woman's mother-in-law is anything like mine, the woman has no idea how her actions and comments affect others. If I were to make jokes about my mother-in-law, she would probably sue me because she would think that none of it was true and I was just bashing her. Get over it lady, or else use this as a time to self-reflect on your actions. There's probably a reason behind those jokes. And judging from the on-air interview with Al, there were definitely some behind-the-scenes issues going on.

I think it's sad-obviously there's a difficult family dynamic here, and although I believe humor can help in tricky situations, I think this will end with shattered irrepairable relationships all around.

I believe her comments were not necessarily about her mother-in-law, but were anti-semetic. They were quite disturbing, and I didn't appreciate watching Al Rocker laugh. If these jokes were about African-American mother-in-laws he wouldn't be up in arms!

Give me a break!  I think the mother-in-law is jealous and now wants her fifteen minutes of fame.  She needs to get a real life, a job, a hobby, something else to occupy her time.   This society is so ridiculous with these preposterous lawsuits.  Ooh, my shoes are hurting my feet.  Let me file a suit against Franco Sarto - NOT!

I've seen my own mother's comments and actions help destroy 8 marriages that my three brothers have had. I chose to move away to lessen the frequency and impact of those comments that might offend my wife of 35 years. Maybe you would be happier if your son took his family and moved across the country? I think not.

Consider that your daughter-in-law is a comedian, and let it go. Yes, she's stereotyping Jewish mothers, but guess what? 90 - 95% of the Jewish mother-in-law jokes I've ever heard are true, through and through. No one likes to be ridiculed, but look into the mirror and tell yourself that honestly, you're not like the jokes she's telling. If you can look yourself in the eye and tell yourself that your not like that, then go ahead and sue.

But, be prepared to lose your son and his family forever, because they'll probably never let you into their lives again.

Comics have historically used family as subjects. What makes it funny is that we identify with it. Don Rickles . . . Rodney Dangerfield . . . Lucy & Ricky !!!

C'mon really? Some things should be left in the privacy of people household. People who are offended by a comedian jokes don't laugh because they don't find it funny. If the mother-n-law had a problem with the jokes then she should have informed her daughter-n-law that she found the jokes offensive and if the situation was not resolved then seek legal advice. If everytime a comedian make a joke and people decided to sue then we can kiss standup and movies goodbye. They both have two very important issues to deal with that should be their main focus: THE CHILDREN!!! Some people are so focused on destroying eachother that they lose focus on the important things in life or don't realize how their actions are affecting others involved.

Most comedians make jokes that are sexist, racist, every -ist you can think of. They make fun of black people, white people, brown people, Jewish people, fat people, skinny people, rich people, homeless people, politicians, and mothers-in-law. It's their job to make fun of people. You don't have to like it, don't have to listen to them, but to sue your daughter-in-law seems taking it a bit too seriously to me.

We are talking about a mother in law, that makes her the husband's mother right. Well did she talk to her son about her intentions, did she talk to her son's wife about being hurt. If she didn't talk about her feelings with her own son and she now thinks by airing the dirty laundry that it will be okay, guess again. She will now become the joke for the late night shows, the joke of the offices across the country, and she will now hear about herself everywhere she goes and I would guess in a not so flattering way. If she didn't care enough to try to resolve this, why should we care. I agree she needs to get a life. If your feelings are hurt over something so STUPID, I am sure that you have bigger problems than just this! I am so sure that there are alot of other issues that brought this out. We don't have the whole story. What a shame for you mother in law, you will be the one that looses in all of this.

A judge would be crazy to set precedent by restricting comics' monologue ... it's the nature of the game. The rehtoric would have to be down-right hateful to be candidate for censure.

Dragging family into court over silly jokes,Outrageous! This Jewish mother should be ashamed. Where is her Rabbi? Could no one talk some sense into this narcissistic woman. Obviously, she cares for no one, but her self. To divide a family over jokes, OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

Life is short let it go, there are more serious things going on in the world, people personalize situations to much. I feel for both parties and it is sad they children are suffering from not seeing their grandmother...

The woman CONVERTED TO JUDAISM and has KEPT A KOSHER HOME for 15 years and they're mad about jokes??? Do they have any idea how many Jewish in-laws would KILL for such luck? (I think someone might've been on to something with the "publicity stunt" idea.)

A lawsuit should be the last resort, not the first thing you jump to. If the in-laws were that upset about the jokes, did they not go to the source and ask her to stop? Or did they just go straight for the money, I mean, lawsuit? It would be one thing if they had actually discussed the issue first, but it doesn't appear that they did. I guess they're just upset that they've been outed as bigots.

If being "offended" by comedy is grounds for a lawsuit, can I sue Cher & Nicholas Cage over the obvoius "Playing off stereotypes" in Moonstruck? :-0 (Fell over laughing BTW - it was like watching home movies). A comedian married to a lawyer? Sounds like a sitcom to me! :-)
