Oh yeah. I can see the Russian Mafia calling the shots now. Miss the shot or your mama won't be able to make borscht for you.
So, he has a controlling interest right? What is to stop him from moving the team to Russia??? Is that a possibility. It just seems like a lot of countries own so much of the United States and we own so little of their enterprises. Does anyone actually think that an American would be able to go to Russia and buy, say, their hockey team? I think not!!
All Americans think about it seem anymore is money. Especially those with the most. It is no wonder we are in the shape we are in. I personally, have a problem with this and I have a feeling it is going to come back and haunt the NBA. Next thing you know, more teams will be owned by foreign country businesses. Can't say I am surprised though. Anything for the almight dollar.
We have effectively sold out our rights to so many things in our country to foreign interests. No wonder there is so little National Pride or effort in our Nation.
Other countries do not allow foreigners to buy and own real estate and other ventures the way we do.
We have outsourced jobs, and property and ownership of so many American Assets. No wonder Americans have no incentive ato buy American there is no such thing anymore. Look at the label on a new car and see that the engine is built in China, other parts in Japan, and then assembled in Canada.
No wonder people don't know American History as it happened, but how it has been re-written to please all the foreign interests.
We need to take back our own country and stopping this sale would be a great start.
Take back our country? National pride? People like you are whats wrong with the USA today. Do you mean to say that you're the only person who knows American History as it happened? Where have you heard that it has been re-written? Put in some research before you go on some nationalistic immature rant.
Stupid question --I thought this was a "free country" especially with globalization why would one even ask the question
Selling out to Russian money means mob money in that country. WE are selling the country so this was going to happen I guess. Maybe we can sell the Washington Monument or perhaps Mount Rushmore and rent it back at a reduced rate for a long term lease?
When the Russian Mafia says miss the lay-up, you miss the lay-up. Maybe your babcha won't be around to make your borscht for you. Nyet on the Ruskies.
I think the whole idea of Russian and/or China or Japan or whomever should not be allowed to own something on USA soil. I bet you if you tried to do the same thing in their country, you wouldn't be able to. Try going to Japan and purchasing a house or some land - or try to open a franchise. I bet you couldn't do it without their government or someone stepping in and telling what you can and cannot do, until you get so frustrated that you end up not doing it at all. USA is stupid for selling out.
America has sucked more out of the world than the rest of the world out of America. The reason this Russkie is able to do this is because some American interest somewhere( of course owned by the ruling elite in this country) will be threatened if this provision weren't there for this guy to exploit! If you truly care then vote with your brain and not your ass and send people to congress that will do the right thing!
America has sold it's soul and future to China so who cares if a non American buys an NBA team.I'm a Lakers fan. However, the players do not care who signs those million dollar checks as long as they don't bounce.
What does it matter if a foreigners buy sports teams? What are they really getting in return for their multi-million dollar investment? The teams tend to have relatively little in hard assets. Most don't own the stadiums that they play in. They don't have a trove of patents or trade secrets that they can transfer overseas. They do have contracts with players ... the obligation to pay a small number of Americans outrageous salaries.

I don't see how an NBA team is any different than any other business, and plenty of businesses here are owned by overseas people.
