DODGERS WILL WIN THE WORLD SERIES NOW!!!! Hahahahha Phillies you suck...you blew it, Pedro had it, now Cliff Lee's gonna get rocked and your bullpen is SCREWED!!!! YOU SUCK PHILLY, go eat a cheesesteak, not this year u bums.....
Sorry "Los Angeles" - one lucky game does not count as your team winning the world series...between your lame players to the even lamer fans (Seriously "Phillies Suck" is the big rally cry???? Where are the REAL fans?) I can't wait to see the WORLD CHAMPS win in Philly.
Pulling Pedro was not the wrong decision. Yeah, he had seven great innings, but he is not as young as he was, nor as good a pitcher. If he had left him in the game, the same thing might have happened, or worse, or maybe the Phillies would have won. But nobody knows.
Gee, did I ever see that coming. Martinez is pitching a damned-near perfect game, making the Dodgers look BAD, and Manuel pulls him in what can only be called one of the most insane gambles ever. His relievers have been totally inconsistent, and his pinch-hitters must have one of the worst collective averages in baseball. So he pulls him because he is supposed to bat 3rd in the 8th inning. And what did that pinch hitter do, exactly? What have any of their pinch hitters done lately?
Martinez threw a 122 pitch complete game shutout about a month ago, and he was WAY below that pitch count tonight. One of the worst developments in baseball, besides domed stadiums, astro-turf, and the designated hitter, is "managing with a calculator", not with your gut. If that was me managing the game, I leave Martinez in, and my gut tells me the Phils win 1-0.
If the Dodgers go on to win this series, as I think they will, pulling Martinez will be the defining moment that turned the momentum around.
I have generally liked Manuel, and defended him when he first came to Philly when the fans were calling for his head. Overall he is a good manager, and the players appear to like him a lot, which is important. But I have a problem with him and a lot of other managers in the game today, who seem to believe that letting a pitcher finish a game is a bad thing, even if they are throwing peas and the other team can't figure that pitcher out. That even goes for middle relievers who may be brought in mid-game and immediately show they really have good stuff, and the other team can't hit anything hard. Then, the managers today feel that they have to go lefty-lefty or righty-righty to show what astute managers they are, and the new pitcher immediately starts throwing meatballs up to the plate. If I had a buck for every time I saw a lefty-lefty or righty-righty matchup blow up in the manager's face this year, I'd be a rich man.
I can't believe Pedro was pulled! The Phillies' bullpen DOES ABSOLUTELY SUCK and Pedro deserved the chance to finish this start. I'm from Brooklyn and a Met fan, and there is no team, even the Yankees and Phillies, I hate more than I hate the Dodgers. This was the game that would have killed the Dodgers. Both big league managers named Manuel are morons.
Old school people (like myself) hate to see pitchers being taken out of ballgames based on pitch counts and not on their ability to continue to throw strikes or get batters out late in baseball games. Pedro had the Dodgers number all day, for that reason Charlie Manuel should have kept him in at least through the 8th inning. From there, Charlie could have used his bullpen to better effect during the bottom of the 9th. Who knows, perhaps the Phillies could have gotten more runs in their half of the 9th.
The Phillies' manager should have left Martinez in and let him either win or lose it himself. With the Phillies' bullpen in the shape it is in, when he pulled Martinez the game was definitely in doubt. The Dodgers tried to screw up their rally but Andre Ethier didn't allow that to happen. The Dodgers have the momentum going into Game 3 and if the Dodgers win Game 3 they have a very good chance of going to the World Series. I don't think anybody can beat the Yankees, though.
It's just one of 7 potential games guys. So it is now the best of 5 games and the best "Team" will win still the series. It is always easy to second guess a manager at it is only done when the results favor the other team.
I am personally pulling for a Angel - Dodger World Series Match up.
About 97.9789% of all coaches are slaves to pitch count. Good. Let them live by the pitch count and die by the pitch count. Silly-ass statistic if I ever saw one.

Go eat a cheesesteak - so original.
Would you like to stump your feet and suck your thumb at the same time? I did not know the entire series depended on this one game. Silly me.

He just threw 130 pitches last month against the Mets. Of course, he was alot younger back then.
