Masten Space Systems came out of no-where and claimed 1.3 million dollars in prize money. That's excitement!

Moon probe detects water

Finding water ice on the moon is huge for the long term. A low gravity launch pad for inter-planetary travel within 50 years.

Could mean a self-sustaining extra-terrestrial base...water is heavy & takes much energy to make...plus it's an O2 source...it's a big deal

Hubble getting an upgrade has to be the top space story for 2009. We will enjoy the benefits of that last service call for years to come.

Interesting that lunar water has the most votes when NASA seems to think nobody cares about the Moon anymore. Very interesting.

By far the most important and most under-reported was the announcement of a new "paper & nanite" combination that stores per volume 10 times more electricity than our best batteries atm. I think anyone can invision the impact this will have on future technology.
