Kobe will never get the love he deserves because of Eagle,Co. Hands down Kobe is the greatest Laker of all time. If you take in both sides of the court Kobe is better. Magic was slow and could not defend. I think Magic was the most popular Laker during the showtime era. I grew up watching Magic and loved his battles against Bird. But for me, Kobe's fundamentals, shooting, and defense makes him the best for me. Final point, unlike the other Lakers. He has won a title without a first ballot and certain Hall of Famer. But I would take any of those guys anytime of the day if I were starting a team.
Shaq? He won three with Shaq - a CERTAIN first ballot hall of famer. Don't forget, Shaq has four championships too.

It's not necessarily about personal stats or scoring 80 points in a game. Basketball is still a team sport, despite growingly selfish play, and it is all about making others around you better, the impact you have as a player. It took Kobe a long time to mature as a team player and during the last couple seasons has shown that. Magic was all-around solid and created for others, not just himself.

Magic could do it all. He could play any position on the floor and score at will. He made all the players around him better because he was a team player and not a ball hog. He got it done on both ends of the court. That's why I'd b=pick him over Kobe, or Michael Jordan any day. It's about the team.

Being a lifetime Celtic fan, I have the most respect for the talent and impact of Jerry West, but Magic Johnson totally transformed his Laker teams into winners for over a decade. Say what you will about the supporting cast of the others mentioned, Kobe Bryant would have taken a back seat in either the West or Magic bus.
man, you could say that about all of the lakers from the past. Magic and jerry were great, I grew up wanting to me magic and not jordan. But Kobe is the sh**. He's done things magic nor jerry have or could've done. It's simple physics. Magic was the ultimate team leader, kobe is the ultimate basketball player, Kobe is the new Mr. Clutch. No ONE has hit the number of game winners that kobe has hit, NO ONE....
Magic. No doubt. If Kobe can play center in a championship game and score 42 points and 10 plus boards and pass out assists, then he would be a close second. Oh, and if he could do that as a rookie.....
The Magic Man without a doubt. Magic was about team and not himself! He also was an all around player but does not get credit for it (he is in the top 10 in steals all-time). He could score if needed to win the game, but was more interested in getting his teammates involved. He could have easily average over 25 points/game for his career. He revolutionized the game by being a 6'8" Point Guard. Are you kidding me? By the way, he is the only player to win at the high school, collegiate and pro levels in a 4 yr. period. Enough said!
greatness is hard to define. suffice to say that some of wilt chamberlain's records will never be broken. with the 3-point line, i can see someone scoring over a hundred points in a game someday (that's still the proverbial wild dream), but no way is anyone going to average over 50 points for an entire season, or over 20 rebounds per game over an entire season....

Wilt was great, but the best part of his career was well before he played for the Lakers.

4 titles, 1 MVP, 2 Scoring titles, 12-time All-Star, #14 All-Time in points scored, all as a Laker. Why wouldn't he at least be on the list?
Only a non-Laker fan would even ask that question.

kareem without question. no prettier move in all of sports than the skyhook, baseline foul line 3 pt line.
Magic as a rookie in the finals played center for an injured Kareem and dominated the position. That is a guard, stepping in to play a championship game against a great team and dominates as a rookie.....oh yeah....
Kobe is great, but he's a couple titles short, and an MVP or two short of being the greatest Laker ever. But he could get there one day. The next three seasons or so will tell the tale. If they can repeat this year, he will have 5 rings tied with Kareem (as a Laker, but he has 6 overall) and Magic. If Kobe can somehow get to six, I'm sold!
I feel there's a degree of class involved in the selection...Magic was all class. So was Kareem.
Kobe lacks in this field....in my opinion, he'll never be the 'greatest' Laker..never.
Are you talking about on-court or off? On the court, Kobe plays with as much "class" as any other elite player. Jordan and Bird were famous for their on-court trash talking. If you're talking about off-court, I'm not sure that should apply, BUT if you must, Magic would be disqualified too. You've obviously forgotten about Magic's HIV scandal. He admitted to serial adultery (remember 6-ways!) over the course of his career. He was the "Tiger Woods" of his day, but since it was in a different era he gets a pass. I personally don't care about player's personal lives, so to me Kobe is no less "classy" than any other Laker great.
I didn't vote, because the greatest Laker of all time, could arguably be Chick Hearn. From driving up and down LA streets with speaker mounted to his station wagon to get people to come to the early games, to covering all the greats and making us feel like part of them all with his words eye view, he is the archetypal Laker.

Gotta go with Jerry West. He was part of all the Los Angeles Lakers titles, either as a player or general manager. He helped with the Gasol trade from Memphis, too :) My personal pick as the "Greatest Laker of all time" would also have to be Chick Hearn. Chick gave everyone in Los Angeles a deep understanding and education of the game of basketball. Along the way he made it the best game in town for some of us.
well if we're going that route, then you can't forget Jerry Buss, without his $$, none of this would be possible
Laker fan since 1979. Magic and Kobe were two different players. It'll be like trying to compare Jordan and Magic. Magic was the ultimate team player. He could do things kobe and jordan couldn't do, but in the same turn, kobe and jordan could do more spectacular things than magic. It's a 1 and 1b in my opinion. Kobe IS the new MJ.
Just wait until Andrew Bynum gets his chance after Kobe retires. He is going to dominate all former Lakers period.....
