I believe there is a great potential for the crime of identity theft yet I believe it depends upon how much personal information the person puts on their FaceBook profile and how many groups, apps, etc. they join.
A person doesn't need to answer every single question. Personal safety is exactly that PERSONAL. Take responsibility and don't click to accept every invitation that comes along.
i agree.
if facebook knew before enableing the caht feature, that the bug was present, and did the release anyway, then i say yes, it is possible, that "pending", there could be something considered a crime, however...
you cant really consider something like this a actual crime for 2 reasons. 1. they made it obvious, they didnt know about it, and took steps to fix the problem promptly. 2. when you use any form of internet communication, you open yourself up to a whole new world. people hack. The majority of the world is as 2 faced as a 2 headed coin. You can in a sence only trust most of your friends to a certain point. therefore, when you go online, and start to chat, or post, being that even tho internet is regulated, it is not secure. anything you say or do can be used against you at any moment, by anyone, and not just someone from our gov. but someone a 100,000 miles away. from anyplace. what you do on the internet, has always been at your own risk.
Individuals make themselves more vulnerable to crime, not FB or twitter. Sensible use of these tools makes for fun socialnetworking.
i think the potential is definitely there. as someone else mentioned, friending every request that comes to you, you can't know those people enough to be certain you aren't introducing a rapist to your circle of single girlfriends. i'd be more concerned with Twitter. i don't have a Facebook account anymore, but when i did it was as private as it could be. i understand that Twitter has no such privacy options?
I just learned that going onto Facebook can be really addicting for some folks. I think they should start a FacebooksAnonymous class. Many of my friends need to attend. I, for one go on FB maybe once or twice a month.
I also have friends who are addicted to FB...I try to be very discreet and not give out too much info. My settings are private...but I still must be careful who is listening!
Facebook CAN invite crime. Any social network can. People post information out there that should be kept private. However, not everyone does that. My profile is private and I have only 3 pictures up. I hardly ever post anything and I almost never write on someone's wall. If I have something to say, I send them a message privately. If I write on someone's wall, it's to say " Good Luck" or ' Happy birthday' and that's all. I don't discuss my vacation in Cancun or post pics of it online. Why should I when I can do so in an email or private message? In such forums, people can choose to be cautious or to be famous. That's on them. I will add, however, that many teens and young adults seem to believe that they should post as much revealing info as possible. Such profiles should be screened and edited by both parents/guardians and the sites themselves.
I use FB but I don't use my real last name.I only use FB to play farmville .And to leave messages for my friends and family. And I try to be care full about what I put on FB.And I was told a very long time ago for any single woman ,to never put your first name in the phone book.I think FB is fun .You jut have to be care full what ever you do.And I found alot of people who have the same hobbies I like. And can find info about my hobbies. Because I don't know anyone were I live who have the interest I have.So its nice to find people around the country who do like the same things I like. And can ask questions and get advice about my hobbies.
Cause it, promote it, as opposed to other venues? No. But it is, still, one of many such venues. Why people lose all propriety about common sense when it comes to all things "online" is beyond me. In fact, the idea which people believe that ordering via phone through a catalog, giving a total stranger your credit card number, is somehow "safer" than purchasing online, is another twist to it, that I do not understand.
Facebook, as well as the other "social networking" sites are for nitwits who are incapable of socializing with real people in real life. These sites also blatantly misuse personal information, and why anyone would put their most personal info. on the Internet for all to see is beyond me. Nobody cares what you're doing at every minute of every day. You want "social networking"? Go out to a coffee shop or other public place and strike up a conversation with somebody. Nobody talks to anybody anymore. I guess they're all in a rush to get home, get back on their computer, and resume their "social networking". Ridiculous...
The vast majority of the people I know who use facebook, including myself, use it as a fun way to keep in touch with the people we don't have the opportunity to see very often: family in other parts of the world, friends from previous jobs/schools, etc. It offers a central place for everyone to "gather," and post/receive updated pictures of family, fun happenings or information about events without worrying about time zone differences, work schedules or life getting in the way.
We're educated, successful career people who have a plethora of "real life" friends as well. Using one avenue doesn't exclude the use of another, unless, I suppose, someone is the close-minded type who resorts to insults and name-calling when there's a topic they don't understand.
Pls dont try to rob me in the nxt our. i wil be out bying some more bullets for my guns. i would hate to come home and find you in my home doing something not good. i might have to terminate your life functions with extreme prejudice!
sure more free information about your self ??? every one can read with others intentions??social net working is jus a exponential of your person in the information world .... on what the world live ???? SINPEL ON INFORMATION .....
People complain about their privacy being invaded all the time, then these same people turn around and tell everthing about themselves on social web sites. Go figure. ????
Whith just the barest information that is put out there, you are not hard to find. Some time your friend post about you.
STUPID IS, AS STUPID DOES! Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Etc. People today just can't stand it! They MUST be on some Social Networking site becasue it is the COOL thing to do. Some are smart (very very, few) and do not give away clues, others are a wide open book and can't help but blab, blab, blab everything!
Don't be fooled just because you do not invite a stranger to be a follower on Twitter or a friend on Facebook, they still can get behind that tiny little wall and get anything they want! NOTHING IS SAFE!
Get over yourself and get out there and socialize in person not behind some computer screen!
The more people know about your habits and other personal information you submit, the greates the exposure that this information will fall in wrong hands.
you do not need the publicity.
I don't post anything personal. I don't post anything about my home. Facebook needs to have strict security rules...

I never post anything about leaving my house, even for a few minutes, and my profile is locked down to only 'friends', a small number.
