anyone who honestly watched Roger over the course of his career can come to no other conclusion other than he was juicing. His arrogance has gotten him into trouble for lying to congress. He was always a PHONEY.
So was the whole MLB organization. If your going to kick the dirt in on him then kick it in on the whole enabling process as well. Giamanti and Selig along with the owners knew, as did we, that something in the early 1990s was very wrong. Players in the majors went from averaging 185 lbs to 225 lbs literally overnight. Players who had never hit more than 20 home runs were now pushing 50 for a season. We still, as a nation, paid top dollar to see them play. In the end, MLB and the owners sold out for the record profits that steroids was bringing. The players in turn were well paid for the risks they were taking with their bodies. Everybody got PAID! We all knew what was going on...We all lived through the 1984 and 1988 Olympic games where the USSR and the Soviet block nations dominated because of steroids. In reality, they just had better "Juice" than our athletes did! In the end, baseball gave you what you wanted and they took it all the way to the bank! If you feel cheated then you really need a reality check on yourself!
Now, that is the whole truth of the matter! Nothing PHONEY about it!
Oh and by the way, HGH is being used right now in professional sports. You are watching it before your very eyes! So 10 years from now when that scandle breaks, don't say you didn't know!
Poor little Eddie .... guess Roger never pitched for your team huh? What sour grapes. Why not show us your medical license that shows us you have proof he was juicing his WHOLE career. Total fecal matter.
If he goes into the Hall of Fame, let it be as a member of the Legendary NY Yankees, but, if they refuse him entry into the Hall, let him get banished as a member of the Baaston Redsox!
He made a gozillion dollars playing ball, after he was through, through the use of steroids. Now he gets to pay the price by being an afterthought in HOF consideration. His jailtime is of his own making.
Look he was a great pitcher, however, how many of those wins were gained by using drugs. If Clinton can be impeached for lying, then Clemens can be indited for lying, and let the chips fall where they may. Did he take drugs, I don't really know, I can guess maybe he did. Bonds is next... I do feel that each member of Congress should be tested also. I wonder how many of them would pass. JMHO
He also used the term "I didn't knowingly take anything", however, pleading ignorance doesn't usually justify your actions. I think they have enough on him that an indictment will be coming down pretty soon. Doesn't mean he'll be convicted. His name is tainted, no matter the outcome.
So he let someone shoot him up and didn't even know what it was... uh-huh...suppose it was some lethal drug, like the one that killed Michael Jackson. Yeah, right, Roger (or Barry, or Rafael, etc.) didn't know what was being injected into their bodies...
Ethically Roger Maris holds the single season home run record and Henry Aaron holds the all time home run record. The likes of Clemens, McGwire and Bonds should never be in the hall along with
a bunch of others who did the same things. I'm not so sure the all time baseball records don't end in the seventies.
I think he should. it is very pompous to judge a guy for doing something to his own body in order to make more money in America. for those of you who call it cheating, Should George Brett be struck from the hall of fame. what about the Nekro brother's for filing their knuckle balls, Baseball is a sign of the times. Ty Cobb was prejudice, Hank Aaron corked his bat, and Roger took shots in the butt. who cares it's baseball. the only people that should be in trouble are the idiots who spent taxpayer money to "investigate" america's pastime during wartime.
You're spot on, baseball is a sign of the times but I'd rather have our government regulate baseball then trying to figure out who to drop the next bomb on. Bring the troops home and build not destroy.
I really could care less, but before we burn all of the recent stars at the stake remember that their predecessors weren't all altar boys. In the day, we all know that many used what was available to get an advantage over their opponents. For example, what do you do with pitchers who won with the spit ball when it was banned, or guys who used earlier forms of juice? If we're going to exclude guys who juiced when it was banned, that's a bit different from guys who juiced before the ban. Bottom line, I don't think this is as black and white as we'd all like it to be.
Sweigs, your post is one of the best I've read. Obviously I agree with you. We can indict a freakin' baseball player, but we can't get the President to show documented PROOF he was even born in America... or admit or deny he's Muslim. The priorities in this country are sorely out-of-whack. I'm glad I'm getting old. Won't have to be here too much longer, God willing...
Now if Congress would only get to work on cleaning its own dirty sheets, THEN we could say that they have accomplished something of note. Roger was a great pitcher but I'm afraid that he will not get to the Hall in his lifetime.
What happened to the presumption "innocent until proven guilty". Everyone is assuming he is guilty. If convicted, he should not be in the Hall of Fame. Conversely if proven innocent. End of story.
He's a damn liar. Had he told the truth, all this would have been over lo----ng time ago, just like his old friend, Andy Pettit. Whatever goes up must come down. What a shame how pride could ruin our lives!!
He was a great pitcher. BUT......He set a bad example for the kids of this counrty, so he does not deserve recocognition for even the things he did prior to using steroids!
T o hell with him and all the others that did it!!!!
Um...it IS the news if you are reading the SPORTS section.
I will say that just because a guy can hit a ball with a stick, it doesn't mean that he should be treated any differently than you and me. The fact that Congress got involved in something like this is laughable. Like they don't have any other things to deal with.
hey you might be too old to remember this but "say it aint so"
how about a cheaters hall of fame, not a great pitcher, the drugs must have done it, hey just like money ramirez too??!! we keep out gamblers so why not druggies?? its not a reflection of his own ability anymore, and he cheated, lied, just the sort of role model we want. we have to draw the line or all sports are doomed.
I've seen President Obama's birth certificate a dozen times. Every news anchor in America has waved it around on TV. The only ones who haven't are faux entertainment. Thank you, President Obama, for saving our country

Right on. He's an ass thinking he can lie to congress. He may reach the hall in the future but it won't be any time soon.
Poor little Eddie .... guess Roger never pitched for your team huh? What sour grapes. Why not show us your medical license that shows us you have proof he was juicing his WHOLE career. Total fecal matter.
He did them as did many others....... With that said, a message to CONGRESS:
It's the economy stupid!!!!!!!! What a waist of time!!!
If he goes into the Hall of Fame, let it be as a member of the Legendary NY Yankees, but, if they refuse him entry into the Hall, let him get banished as a member of the Baaston Redsox!

No way he is voted in. He cheated. He lied to Congress. His hubris is utterly astounding.
JMHO
Agreed, but I doubt Bonds will ever go down. Bonds will just plead ignorance, he's already stated that he didn't know what the term "the clear" meant.
He also used the term "I didn't knowingly take anything", however, pleading ignorance doesn't usually justify your actions.
I think they have enough on him that an indictment will be coming down pretty soon. Doesn't mean he'll be convicted.

Well it just goes to show you don't need to be smart only talented.
That's what Bonds said. Do I believe him, heck no.
Plausible deniability.
Ethically Roger Maris holds the single season home run record and Henry Aaron holds the all time home run record. The likes of Clemens, McGwire and Bonds should never be in the hall along with

Clemens is slime. PERIOD.
I think he should. it is very pompous to judge a guy for doing something to his own body in order to make more money in America. for those of you who call it cheating, Should George Brett be struck from the hall of fame. what about the Nekro brother's for filing their knuckle balls, Baseball is a sign of the times. Despite having played for Boston, yes he will. He broke zero rules of the game (steroids were not banned at the time)

just another DUMB WINGER;
Now if Congress would only get to work on cleaning its own dirty sheets, THEN we could say that they have accomplished something of note. Roger was a great pitcher but I'm afraid that he will not get to the Hall in his lifetime.
He shouldn't and neither should any one who uses performance inhancing drugs.
Just like Barry "Roid Rage" Bonds, Clemens and the other admitted juicers like MacGuire will NEVER get into the Hall of Fame.
What happened to the presumption "innocent until proven guilty". Everyone is assuming he is guilty. If convicted, he should not be in the Hall of Fame. Conversely if proven innocent. End of story.
You still don't think that your assertion is a myth? Compare what you say with the mosque situation near ground zero in New York.
and what deserted island have you been living on?
He's a damn liar. Had he told the truth, all this would have been over lo----ng time ago, just like his old friend, Andy Pettit. Whatever goes up must come down. What a shame how pride could ruin our lives!!
It is about time to teach these arrogant liars a lesson.
He has lots of money, but no dignity.
He was a great pitcher. BUT......He set a bad example for the kids of this counrty, so he does not deserve recocognition for even the things he did prior to using steroids!
T o hell with him and all the others that did it!!!!
Just because a guy can hit a ball with a stick, doesn't mean he is news...or bounce a ball without looking at it...
Um...it IS the news if you are reading the SPORTS section.

Roger is a great pitcher and a pathological liar.
He had a chance to tell the truth, but his bloated ego told him otherwise.
I feel sorry for his kids, they will grow up in a world knowing their father totally destroyed his amazing career with a series of bad choices.
And they'll know that he was even willing to lie to his own family as well.
