As a practicing Christian it's incomprehensible that any church would consider such an act as a practice of Christian values. There is nothing in the main body of the Constitution that would prohibit him from burning the Qurans. It is not solely denied in the Constitution. In fact he is given the right by the Ninth Amendment. That being said I will now discuss the Tenth Amendment to the constitution.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Again the Constitution does not deny him the right to burn the Qurans, but reaffirms his right to do so. I would also have you notice that the Ninth Amendment gives him his right to do so as an individual before the Constitution give the states and the people again right not denied in the main body of the Constitution.

Any law that would abridge his First Amendment Rights is unconstitutional. Burning ordinances when enforced to abridge a constitutional right is unconstitutional in that instance.

I do not agree with his burning the Quran because it is a futile act. However I defend his right to do so. On February 15th 1959 I took an oath when I joined the United States Marine Corp. That oath did not become ineffective when I was Honorably discharged by same. I swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States Of America against any enemy, both foreign and domestic. I am not sure but I believe that every police officer who is a member of any law enforcement agency takes a similar oath. To enforce any law that would violate this mans rights under the Constitution is in violation of that oath.

The burning of the Koran will only reignite anti-American movements and organizations in not just the Middle East, but throughout the whole world. The actual burning of the Koran is technically legal, but the incorporating it as an international demonstration is not. The first amendment appeals to freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. But it does not cover radical demonstrations that can (and will) incite riots! If you say you can't see this causing riots (yes, domestic riots included) then you are so oblivious you need to open your eyes and see the situation for what it is. Burning the Koran is an insult to the Islamic extremists that support terrorism, but it also serves as much of an insult to the Muslims of whom the United States is trying to broker out a peace with.

You hate the war? You hate the terrorism? THEN STOP TRYING TO PROVOKE! You dishonor the brave souls who have gone over to the Middle East where they know they're hated. Some have died trying to help out in the Middle East, their friends are continuing their work. Right now is not the time for retaliation. We may have differences, but right now is the time to help rebuild, help stabilize, and help organize. If you eliminate the misplaced hatreds of the Middle East, then they will become more willing to aid in the extermination of the terrorist organizations that currently hide there. Iraq and Afghanistan are both cracking down on terrorist organizations, but the burning of the Koran will destroy years and years of work towards gaining the trust of the Middle East. If we lose that trust, then all of the soldiers who have served in the Middle East over the almost 9 years since 9/11 will have been for nothing. While I stridently oppose the building of a Mosque anywhere near Ground Zero, the muslims are guaranteed freedom of religion under our great Constitution. The Constitution grants every man, woman and child, the right to worship whom and however they choose!

We also have the freedom to oppose them, and even to burn copies of the koran in a public venue! However, that act is, in-and-of-itself, a very inflammatory act! I find myself actually opposing the burning of the korans, given our military situation in the Middle East! If these misguided people DO burn the korans, they should be held responsible for every American and Coalition Soldier that’s killed as a direct result of the burning!

Another thing: The burning of the korans will quite possibly bring the muslims’ wrath directly down on the United States itself! If there IS a sudden influx of bombings IN THIS GREAT UNITED STATES by muslim terrorists, Jones and whomever helps him burn the korans, should bear the responsibility for the results that bring about those bombings, as-well!

There is no political point being made by Terry Jones. There is no religious message here, either. There is nothing he's stated, nothing he's suggested that comes remotely close to either a meaningful spiritual statement or an invitation to reasoned public discourse. What Terry is doing is meant only to espouse hatred and intolerance - his message is one of paranoia moreso than even fear and does little save demonstrate his deep-rooted bigotry, theological ignorance and moral bankruptcy.

As far as you suggesting that the people in opposition to this planned pyre are oblivious to the hate and vile ravings of extremists in the Muslim world, well, I'm sorry to say that holds no water. Burning a religious book equals Incitement to violence, which actually is not allowed by the Constitution. First, let me preface this by stating that I think this churches intentions are in poor taste......but their actions are protected by the first amendment all the same. The same first amendment that our armed forces fight and die for.

Is it just me or does anyone else find it funny that the same people that historically add more danger to our armed forces in the field are the same ones that cry foul when they think their first amendment rights are violated, but have no problems with doing it to others? A classic example of this is nam. We had all the loud mouthed war protesters. These people had several direct effects on our fighting forces. First: They empowered the enemy. They did this by giving them a psychological tool. Second: They demoralized our troops. Our boys did not want to be there....but they were there and had a job to do all the same. First and foremost was keeping themselves alive. Third: These b@stards threw sh!t and rotten vegetables at boys coming home that should have been treated to parades for risking their lives. As in all matters current and historical.....liberals tend to have selective memories.

If there is an increased threat to American troops, then it will be because the media made a big deal about this. How would terrorists know what rednecks in Florida are doing if the media didn't flont their trash world wide? I'm sick of seeing the media creating more contravercy with hatred and fear.

What should the minimum donation be for making an empty but potentially harmful demonstration? again, there are a great many other ways of making their irrational point without endangering so many other people. Their risk is small, wonder what they would do if the threat against them was greater and more likely? To help bring peace on Earth, they schemed a plot to end religion. Thye attempted to remove superstition by destroying all the religion leaders and holy sites. They flew planes into their targets - the vatican, the wailing wall, the kaaba. All in the name of atheism.

The story is fiction, but is it so far of a stretch to say that a lack of religion could, just as likely, be something people would kill over? Not all fault lays with a belief system.

Rescueus - I truly believe that while many wars are caused by religion, while many murders are perpetrated in the name of divine God, religion saves more lives than it costs. I am not referring to "souls that see the light" or anything of the sort. I believe the number one motivation people have to (negatively)NOT committ a crime, to not kill, to not steal, and to (possitively) do good unto others, either by giving charity, acts of loving kindness, or just helping the general welfare of others stems from God.

Without an omnisicient presence that will ultimately "judge" each of us, in some way we don't even claim tp understand, many people would be much more eager to turn to violence. I have said this before and I'll say it again, people aren't afraid enough of the police that having a few patrols will stop all crime. People are afraid of divine retribution. For better or worse, if He is real or not (or a She), God makes the world a safer place.

I tried to enlist after 9/11 but had a medical issue I wasn't even aware of until the physical which kept me out. I do however come from a military family so I full well understand the rules of engagement and how much of a mess they have made from nam till now, and from what I have gathered they just keep getting worse.

War may be wrong......but if you are going to unleash the dogs of war.....at least let them eat their fill and call it a day. Lol the health INSURANCE bill is already having devastating consequences......and it isn't even fully implemented yet. Most companies (and individuals) are seeing HUGE premium increases at renewal. An anticipated 10-15% renewal increase is typical. What is happening is in the neighborhood of 25-35% increases. These are a direct result of having to accept ALL risks. Insurance is risk sharing. The risk just went through the roof. A great example is my wife's company. They currently employ 600 people. Their premiums just went up 35%. The employer pays 50% of the employees premium, the employee picks up 100% of the family premium after that. We had carried our insurance through her since I was downsized in late 2009. Our premiums for family went from $800 per month to $1350 per month. $900 was to be expected. Thank you Mr. obama for adding us to the list of uninsured with your brilliant planning. Hopefully since I am still unemployed we will qualify for medicaid.....but unless they raise the cap on that we won't. Oh.....her employer also plans to drop the plan next year if they see another increase like this......or if they see a major number of people drop the plan this year. Most of the people in my wifes office can not afford to toss 40% of their income into the health insurance pot.....so there is a distinct possibility that this employer will no longer offer coverage.....and I don't blame them.

"Political Correctness" is a blight on our nation that has replaced "do what is right". I cannot control the actions of others, I can only aspire (and often fail)to always be moral and true in all my words and actions to positively influence those around me. It may be free speech to some, but if you think about it even the pastor has said that retalitory violence would be one of the possible outcomes. He has said that he wants America to stand up against the Islamics/Muslims, basically to show that we won't be bullied. The problem is that even the pastor recognizes that this will incite violence, but says America needs for them to do it anyways to show that America will stand against any threat. This is rediculous. Free speech can be trumped by one thing: doing/saying something that will incite violence. This is exactly what the pastor is counting on. He wants to incite violence, he wants to start a war so that he can justify the idea of killing/destroying anything Islam even though the Islamic religion had nothing to do with 9/11, it was the work of radical and crazy extremists--not the Islam faith.

If you agree with this burning of the Quaran, than you are agreeing to incite violence that could get not just American soldiers killed, but any American across the world. Heck, the extremists may even try to retaliate by attacking Gator Stadium on Saturday which would get thousands of people killed.

This pastor has a right to free speech, but he DOES NOT have a right to incite viloence--which is what he will be doing. I don't think he is really considering the results of his actions. If you are indeed a man of the Word, you will recall that early Christians brought their books of sorcery and false beliefs to one big pile and burned them when they were taught the truth. Jesus says also that "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the father except through Me." God does not look favorably on any doctrine other than His own. In fact, you should be full of righteous anger against any religion that denies the Lordship of Christ and calls Him a liar. Are you familiar with the fundamentals of Islam? You should study it. Man instinctively knows what is moral and good and what is evil and bad, he doesn't need a god to tell him right from wrong. Every creature on the planet lives by this code.

On the contrary it seems that when "god speaks" to anyone he usually tells them to hate or kill. Religious freaks have been killing in the name of god since he was invented; that's right "invented" (325 years after he was supposed to have been crucified as a matter of fact at the first ecumenical council of Nicaea by Constantine and Pope Clement IV)

Any time someone got in the way or wasn't subservient to the church, they put to death, just read up on the Albigensian crusades. That is actually where the saying came from; "Kill them all and let god sort it out"

The Bible says Jesus returns to judge and make war. Check it out in Revelation. God will not tolerate false religion...if you think otherwise, you're fooling yourself. God loved us enough to die for us, but He is no push over...plenty of examples in the Bible. He is a God of love (which is why He sacrified His only Son), but He is also righteous, and will wipe out all sin and evil. Personally, I don't think God would burn Qurans, but then again, He turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple in His anger...certainly a violent act, especially considering that he drove them out with a whip! It is part of Islam to believe in all God's messengers. Jesus Christ and Moses are mentioned many times in the Quran in the utmost respectful way. No where in the Quran suggests Jesus is a lair as you claim.

Anti-Islamist quote Quran verses of war time to make believe that Quran supports violence. They don't read them in reference to their context. Quran verses of war time will certainly ask Muslims to defend themselves and fight for their rights, for their survival for their prestige. What would you expect God to order in war time? To get killed, to raise white flags and not fight, to become cowards?

Its not a hate crime. A hate crime is the enhancement of a criminal act when it was inspired by hatred towards a specific group. Burning books is perfectly legal, so this cannot qualify as a hate crime. Its bigoted, xenophobic, and abrasive, but it is not a hate crime.

Agreed, and as a furtherance of that thought, what the First Amendment also protects is the rights of those here who question the wisdom of this church. If people feel that criticizing the church is taking away their free speech, then the people who are saying so are taking away the free speech of the rest of the posters here.

The First Amendment doesn't protect anyone from ridicule if their idea stinks, it just says that the government can't keep them from expressing that idea.

Also, how is this any different from the idiots at wikileaks? Both are supposedly exercising their First Amendment rights, but both are putting our troops in jeopardy. (And this is coming from a person in command over there, not some politician or pundit here.)

Just because you have a right to do something doesn't make it right to do so. Calling them both out on it is the First Amendment right (and responsibility) of the rest of us.

With our country currently in a war, this is no longer about whether we agree with Muslims (or the war) or not, this is about whether we, as Americans, are willing to do (or not do in this case) what is necessary to help our troops stay alive in an already hostile place.

Where is the show of outrage when the Christian bible is burned? Nuns are murdered when Muslims are "offended" by a cartoon of Mohamed, where is the outrage? Where is the condemnation against people burning the American flag in this country? Where is the outrage from people when our children are told they can't have a Christmas tree in their school because it might "offend" someone?

The churches actions do nothing to promote the gospel or the security of the U.S. The role of governing authorities is to provide protection and security. In our country, the FBI, CIA, NSA, military and others are there to provide that role. I'm sure we all have an opinion as to how effective they are, but that's not my point. This is:

Please read the verses. It says in v. 18, "If possible, so far as it depends on you (you Romans and others who read this letter), be at peace with all men." As a group of individuals, this church is not promoting peace, but inflaming the situation.

You forget that the bible also says

Matthew 10:34 - Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
