Instead of a handwritten card by the passenger that Security may just not take into consideration, these cards should be requested and provided by a physician.
For those with long term conditions maybe TSA can do something allowing travelers to register for a document that can be used with a Passport or Driver's License. Yes that means more paperwork, but at least it's a federal document that Security can't ignore like a handwritten piece of paper. And if they do ignore it, then those Security officers need to be held accountable for their lack of respect and protocol.
why would it matter where the card comes from? these walmart dropouts lack the brain power to alter their gropes let alone the ability to read.
u still get groped valentine card or not. these walmart dropouts will just think its Valentines day and add a hug and kiss to the groping.
See my posts below, these cards have been in existence form physicians since just after 911 and even before if I remember correctly. TSA does not give a fat Sh%^& about those cards and it is doubtful that they could read one of them anyway.
I have a knee replacement. ALL people who have such knee/hip implants and things like pacemakers and stents receive ID cards from the device manufacturer. It has your name and the make/model of your device. They do this so you can check to see if your pacemaker, knee, penile implant, etc has been recalled. My card has a picture of the replacement device, my name, the hospital and date it was implanted, which knee, and the name of the attending physician.
With only a little work the TSA could require that such a card be created to their specifications and registered with them. This would result in almost no cost to anyone since the manufacturers of the devices already issue similar cards.
The TSA people refuse to recognize these sorts of cards or issue their own versions. Recently, I was subjected to both a full body scan and a sexually-oriented patdown after explaining to the metal detector gate attendant that I had an artificial knee. Neither the scan nor the subsequent wanding and patdown discovered the source of the original alarm and I was allowed to board without a gun-sized chunk of metal being discovered.
I was told that I was being permanently placed on a "special security required" list and that there was no way to have my name removed or to appeal the decision. I was told to always allow another hour on top of the two for domestic and three for international travel because my name was on "The List."
Since the TSA only seems interested in fondling my penis, my future strategy will be to volunteer no information and offer them no assistance of any kind. This is only "security theater" and would not find a gun or knife if one were present.
Another issue that is not being discussed that bothers me is that the TSA people all wear blue nitryl gloves so they won't catch anything. But they fondle the genitals and run their fingers inside the waistbands and up the butt cracks of passengers and do not change gloves between patdowns. This is certain to spread such diseases as genital warts and herpes between passengers. People should really be raising a stink about this aspect of patdowns.
If your physician can't touch you there without washing his hands and changing gloves, might it be a good idea for the TSA jerks as well.
I also object to the TSA selling confiscated items on e-Bay. They lie and say that they do not sell them, but donate them to the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts officially deny that the TSA or Homeland Security has EVER donated any knives or other items. And if you don't believe me, here is a link to a current lot of confiscated knives:
I also object to the TSA using their scanners to locate valuables in your checked baggage and assisting confederates in looting your luggage. The Unclaimed Luggage store is near me and I had a manager show me how the person doing the scanning marks the location and type of valuable with chalk. (He showed me one with a "C".) A confederate then slices open the suitcase with a box cutter and removes the item. The confederate then switches the destination tag on the luggage and it goes to a small airport with no full-time baggage office where it may sit for weeks before being sold to Unclaimed Luggage. The airlines actually make a profit when they lose your luggage ---- most people don't know that. But over 7,000 TSA personnel have been fired for stealing from luggage and only 2 have been prosecuted.
These people are not interested in terrorists. They are interested in looting and pillaging. And they are only a step away from legalized sodomy.
I hear you and I know exactly how you feel but I think I can say without any reservation , that TSA invasions will continue along with their rampant thefts until blue Bird's fly out of my ass! The way things are going in this country, if that does ever happen I'm sure there will be a TSA goon right there to observe it. I have had a total hip replacement, with the doctors cards etc etc since 1994 and I'm here to tell you nothing is goingto change until such time as they drop this invasive procedure and/or the airlines all go broke and have to be bailed out with tax payers money. Once again, don't fly unless you absolutely have to! Don't play into this blatant invasion of civil rights and personal privacy guaranteed us in our Constitution.
I had my surgeon give me a "Prescription" stating that I have a total left hip replacement and two titanium screws in my left SI Joint - specifically for air travel - after 9/11 and increased security. It also described the area in my thigh that would show a length of wire wraped around the bone from a break and bone graph.......think about it - it looks weird on an xray!
Few years later, had new "Prescription" drawn up to add the bladder suspension in my abdomine. Again, strange looking "strands" of synthetic sutcher stretching from one side of my stomach to the other, that appears on xrays.
I always went thru security being treated professionally and without delays to me or other passengers. I removed my shoes, just like every other passenger and I was simply asked to step to one side as they used a hand scanner to go over the areas described. This WAS before TSA tho.
Very good idea to have the new forms conviently available well before any flight reservations.......like a "Medical Alert" - which is already recognized world wide. This would help to reduce delays and should be respected just as a Passport or Medical Alert is! They shouldn't be handed out to just anyone requesting one. They should have to be "applied for" in advance, like a Passport, and be updated as necessary.
There simply is no reason why those who travel and have such medical "realities" should be made subject to insulting, public and time consuming additional security measures than anyone with a passport or Medical Alert does! Considering all the possibilities of such every day surgical procedures and implants/replacements, a "legal" form of ID is appropriate.
I have refused to travel by air since this entire TSA treatment of passengers came to light. The thought of being "man-handled" by untrained staff and facing the all too real odds of being subject to public humilation - led me to seek out alternative travel arrangements.....or cancel the trip altogether.
Increased flight and airport security is a necessity in today's world. Unfortunately, they have not taken all too many possibilities seriously and thought them thru before enacting flawed security practices! The most obvious and fundemental consideration being.....to assign untrained, unskilled employees to conduct security checks and to fail to take IMMEDIATE and professional action whenever a passenger is treated unjustly or improperly!
It is simply the cost of doing such business in these troubled - dangerous times!!
This is a simpleton way of 'plugging the hole' to resolve the real problem that has not been addressed: intrusive and illegal pat-downs and the use of a scanner that was proposed hook-line-and-sinker by the former DHS head and purchased for use by the US government.
I am not at all opposed to new technology and/or a business enterprise as a whole, but I am opposed to being treated like a guinea pig and a citizen of the first country in the world to establish these guidelines inside our borders.
The entry of terrorists entering the US from a foreign country has not been addressed nor has this information been forthcoming to Americans. With that said, I will only fly if there is an emergency and pity the poor person who lays a hand on me!
So, if I don't like it, I don't have to fly? If the answer is yes, I will definitely have to seek a new country to welcome me. This is no longer "the land of the free and the home of the brave!"
“TSA respects the privacy concerns of all members of the traveling public”
100% bull@!$%#. The TSA terrorizes, at their whim, members of the traveling public. End the get-naked-or-get-groped security theater, already.
Buffoons. No wonder no large sporting event wants to be held in the U.S., no one wants their citizens to come here and get sexually molested by the TSA.
LOL what is wrong with you people? How many of you actually been touched by a TSA person? I fly often and I never been patted down or really see them doing it. I always go through the machine. I live in DC so it is a big airport and busy.
I would rather have them search everyone on the plane and make sure we are safe to fly. Everyone complains they should not touch us and then when something happens people complain they are not doing enough.
I do not work for the TSA. I just know there is a lot of shady people out there that want to cause harm to the USA and harm others. I would rather have that peace of mind when 35,000 feet in the sky.
chris -
Not ALL joint replacement recipients receives the card you describe. Despite the two replacements of the same hip and the screws in my SI Joint - I was never given such a card and I've had several surgeries that added steel. The most recent hip socket replacement was as recent as 2006. My father was a pacemaker recipient for 16 years and he was never given such a card either. I know a few others that the same is true of.
If, in fact your statement was true, it would be very easy for just about anyone to obtain such a card or fake one and use it to get around travel security. Terroists - bombs in planes, trains, buses....etc. are simply a reality of the times we now live in. To insist that more advanced security precautions DO NOT need to be put in place - just doesn't make sense......when compared to the far greater risk than a bruised ego or embarassing moment!
The scenerio I suggested in my previous post regarding a "government issued medical card" - similar to the process of issuing a Passport - seems like an improvement on just asking for a card at the airport. And....please, save the comments about "too much government control"! We are talking about large groups of people going BOOOOM in mid-air!
There will always be crime! Airport and other transportation luggage areas have ALWAYS been subject to a certain amount of theft. We take the precautions necessary and/or available to help identfy, catch and prosecute the criminals. This is just a fact of life - not just since terrorists started bombing folks out of the air!
The more intelligent conversations we have to expose/identify the many areas of concern - the better and sooner they can work on solutions/actions to improve the reality of travel security. I strongly agree that they are not working nearly hard enough or fast enough!
It's frustrating, I know.....I live with difficulties in many areas due to my medical conditions. The key statement here is......"I LIVE"! I would not be surprised if my name were put on a Security List if I were to stand in a security check area and state my Constitutional Rights or called folks around me things such as..."Confederates"!
I'm just saying..........we need to try and keep things in perspective. Consider the alternatives. Try to work together to become part of the solution, rather than a part of the problems that we face.
Noelle -
I hope for your sake, that the next time you do fly.....you don't end up sitting there all comfy.........with another passenger onboard who managed to get thru the often degrading and insulting security process AND has "tricked" the scanner and the pat-down and goes.....BOOOOM! It is not like you can say that would never happen........it does - all too often!
Good luck in moving to ANY other country where your air travel would be less invasive or time consuming! Have you not read or seen any of the recent media coverage of what eleborate and lengthy search and investigation proceedures that other countries are putting travelers thru?! Some countries relay on "frofiling" and individual, lengthy "interviews" - hours long - of every traveler. Oh yes.....and where you would be allowed to so free express your opinions when ever and where ever your little ol heart desires - without the fear and reality of being thrown into prison!!
IF a security person grabs hold of your "who-ha" .......yell for a police officer! They will arrest the guy....or gal.
Justin, get a grip. It's all a matter of time.
I went through the full body scanner and have NO metal in my body, and neither in my clothing pockets, but I still was felt up my thigh by the TSA after the scan, and then had my wallet confiscated and looked through.
A**holes. Clearly a violation of my 4th Amendment rights, as they had NO bona-fide reason to search me with touching my thighs, nor to look through my wallet (which only had cash and credit cards and my ID in it. This was NOT a port of entry search/seizure such as at Customs, and with no metal on my person, the search and seisure was unwarranted, certaintly without probably cause.
I think things are in perfect perspective, we are all living in a god damned police state and unless people wake up it will be everywhere before you can blink. I'm talking concerts, sports events trains buses and anywhere else these goons can find a crowd of honest American citizens to roust!
Why don't we all just get the Mark of the Beast put on us so we can just go right onto a plane?
Lady-Red & Justin-2719467 - FYI: we haven't lost our right to freely express ourselves, right?
Yes, I have been treated to the pat-down's before all of this came to light; even asked to pull up my sweater in full view of the passengers standing in line behind me, to have them ask to 'search my head & hair' after the rain hit it and my 'do' looked awful, and removing my wallet in my handbag and removing my cash & credit cards.
No matter that I'm a grandmother and in the 3rd act of my life. So, if you 'haven't walked the walk,' cease judging those who disagree with you because of unpleasant dealings with TSA.
Finally, Lady-Red, you know very well what you may do with your opinions, or should I end this post with 'Heil?'
Lady-Red,
The medical equipment manufacturers do make cards for everyone. Your physician probably never got it to you. And it's kinda important to keep around since several hip replacements and at least one knee replacement that I know of have been "recalled" (one hip type of hip replacement and several hip and knee resurfacing kits within just the last couple of months.) If you request a card you can still get one --- and its about the only way you can find out if your prosthesis is effected by a notice of some kind.
If TSA doesn't understand the verbal English language, what makes them think the written will be any easier?
Instead, of cards why don't we just throw these TSA goons to the sharks.that's just about where they belong.Ugly 4th amend molesting Goons
"Any mechanism that helps facilitate better communications between the passengers and the federal security officers..." How about LISTENING?!
They were worried about forged letters or cards?! If the only purpose of the card was to discretely make the TSO aware of a medical condition (it didn't exempt you from screening) what would be the purpose of faking one? There is no excuse for not talking to any passenger and treating them as a human being except ignorance or poor training.
If you send the TSA a letter complaining about how you were treated and noting that they failed to find a gun-sized artificial knee, you get back a form letter thanking you for your inquiry. These people have no interest in listening to the American people.
Chris -
"If you send the TSA a letter COMPLAINING......."
What else would you expect - at least they responded to your complaint.
How about we hand out cards to the TSA agents that say "Up Yours."
Until there's a medical device registry that will pre-screen medical devices this announcement is IMHO totally useless. I will not fly as long as I am assured that my breasts and crotch "need" to be checked EVERY TIME I FLY because I happen to have medical metal between my knee and ankle I am not interested. No organizational learning going on here, which is a total travesty. Attributed to Einstein: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." So tell me, TSA, exactly why can't you figure out after checking my breasts and crotch a couple of dozen times you have no way of discerning I am not a threat? Methinks your procedures fit the above definition perfectly.
This does not change anything, if you have a medical implant you are still going to get felt up. These cards are nothing knew, people with orthopedic implants have had these things issued by their doctors since just after 911. TSA has never done anything different since then other than the new xray and enhanced pat downs/ sexual molestation feel ups and has ignored the cards so what is the difference? This knee jerk, alleged, security screening does not and never has done anything to keep travelers safe. I opt not to fly because there has to be a line drawn somewhere for civil rights and personal privacy. Enough is never enough until its more than enough.
These cards were being issued long before 911. I know they were being issued in the 1970's. They are issued by the device manufacturer so you can check to see if there are problems, or if the device is being recalled. etc. This is the only way you have of checking the serial number, exact model, etc of an implanted device.
I don't know of physicians every having issued such cards. And that wouldn't count for much. Physicians got people all those handicapped parking tags that hang from rear-view mirrors in the Walmart handicapped parking places. Most of those people aren't handicapped in any way that they needed the tag, but their physician gave it to them. If a physician will give an obese person a handicapped tag instead of tell them to park as far from the store as possible and walk, they would give an implant card to a terrorist.
Chris -
I believe that YOU were given a card. I believe that they were available to patients in the '70s. I KNOW that far from EVERYONE gets one! I also KNOW that the ID number is in my medical and surgical records......in my surgeons office and the hospitals.
Beave -
I do know that not ALL implant passengers are subjected to pat-downs and full body scans! I KNOW that I have always walked thru the scan at the lugage belt, removed my shoes, stood up and was scanned by the hand-scanner.......every time I have flown!!
Regardless folks......get real. You have the right to refuse the scan - the pat down - rude employees and the right NOT to fly.
The rest of us also have the RIGHT to board an airplane with at least the knowledge that everyone else on our aircraft went thru the same ugly process and thanks to that I am LESS LIKELY TO HAVE MY FANNY BLOWN OUT OF THE AIR!!!
Considering the state of the world in this day and age......I consider myself lucky that I haven't been one of the folks blown up while standing in StarBucks or WalMart!
We hear the complaints about TSA and TOO MUCH GOVT.!! How about some constructive ideas as to how to make air travel safe from terrorists??!?
Chris - again.....
Just don't get caught with an illegal Handicapped Tag hanging from your rearview mirror. The fine is HUGE! The doctor gives you the "form" to APPLY for the Handicap Tag and/or plate. The Driver's License ISSUES the NUMBERED TAG and it is recorded with your drivers license records!
How many obese folks have you actually SEEN climbing out from behind the steering wheel or passenger seat??!?
I am DISABLED! I am NOT OBESE! I can usually safely operate a motorized vehicle - when I am impaired due to pain and meds.....I don't drive! Due to multiple injuries it is EXTREMELY difficult for me to walk much of any distance!!!
Your statements are insulting and you are making no sense! Your posts have left the relhm of intelligent conversation! Nite folks...........I'm outta here!
The rest of us also have the RIGHT to board an airplane with:
1. "at least the knowledge that everyone else on our aircraft went thru the same ugly process"
That sounds like Misery loves company to me.
2. and thanks to that I am LESS LIKELY TO HAVE MY FANNY BLOWN OUT OF THE AIR!!!
Actually, that is not true. You have exactly the same likelihood, because no aircraft has been blown out of the air. However, you might actually have more likelihood since:
a. Pilots and Crew are no longer subject to the new procedures.
b. Plane servicing personnel are spottily checked at best.
c. Commercial packages are not checked as thoroughly as you are.
d. With all the money wasted on this security theatre, the government cannot possibly be spending their money, time and other resources effectively.
But by golly, you just go keep thinking you are safe because of these procedures, with no proof, many loopholes, and no logical thought process related to the whole thing. Would you like hay or oats?
Yup, Murray -
Why don't you go to the 9/11 site and repeat your opinion to the first responders and families of all the folks who died that day IN AIRPLANES and the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and in the farmer's field!!
I'm confident that these folks would really appreciate how much value so many of you folks do not have for the massive loss of lives - at the hands of the ...what....make believe terrorists? The imaginary airplanes that were "crashed" - excuse the h out of me for saying "blown up" instead of crashed!
KILLED.........by terrorist in THIS country.........how's that?
What do you expect? You hire people who only qualify for minimum wage employment and then give them power that is greater than the average police officer has. Abuse must follow and those higher up cannot deal with it, only try to find excuses for it. It be a cold day in hell before I go to an airport again unless I can fly private.
I am sure the TSA agents will simply ignore the cards and continue to sexually assault people and treat them as poorly as ever. This policy needs to be rescinded. I hope district attorneys in CA and GA go ahead with plans to prosecutre TSA officers whosexually assault people.
There are many of us that have implants and we are always singled out for these atrocities, think about it. How would all of you lucky people out there like to go to the airport , knowing that each and every time you do so, you will be subjected to public humiliation. For the unfortunate ones of us that have implants there is no chance of not being selected for the "enhanced pat down"/ sexual molestation feel up and we do not even have the option to be irradiated against our will even if we wanted to do that. Talk about discrimination, this is a clear cut case of it. I hope that makes the rest of you folks out there feel safer, but it sure doesn't make me or people like me feel that way--------GET IT!
This is what we have come to and this is why we cant protect our countries or its people. It took how long for 70 different orginizations and how many people to come up with an idea that allows a passenger to hand a card to a TSA guy that the passenger filled out and now everthing is going to be ok. My 6 year old daughter could have come up with that in 15 minutes. How about just communicating with the pasenger on a level of respect and intelligence. How about profileing people instead of turning every American into a criminal and abuseing them. How about checking as many packages and luggage as you do people. (they can be done with xrays without poisoning someone) God halp us all.
Now that the TSA has thought of these cards, how about some sensitivity training for the employees that will be handling them?
teaching them sensitivity is like teaching a Gorilla table manners.i think you'd get farther with the Gorilla.
I could train a chimpanzee to grab someones package in 10 minutes
TSA embraces, touches, and fondles new medical notification cards.
I still won't ever fly through Chicago again. The TSA officers there had lint in their hair and actually stank! I never saw them change their gloves. I don't want to be patted down by someone who cannot bathe...and I can't go through the scanner because of a medical device that is adverse to xrays. I am more concerned about the TSA officers cleanliness.....Chicago....uck! I know profiling is illegal for a reason, but how many people over 60 and under 10 have been caught with bombs in their underwear or shoes?
When the Senators, Representatives, Janet Napolitano and government officials have to go through security I will fly again-until then I will find other means of travel. My husband has 2 artificial knees and they treat him like he is a terrorist-he has a card from the Dr and knee maker -including when surgery was done ,where and physician plus my husbands name which matches his ticket-this is just more decorations on security-they don't even look at it!!
Exactly, it is discrimination for sure and that is just one of the crimes it is committing
I used to fly sometimes as often as weekly for business with many flights being less than 500 miles with some many more miles. Since the latest rounds of security breaches and the TSA's response the easiest, simplest, most dependable, safe, method of transportation for me has been to drive my own personal car to my intended destination. With instant communication on the ground by email and 100% coverage for cell phone service we have in some cases left home at the same time as we would have left for the airport and as long as 2 people (Usually my wife of 41 years driving) are in the car I can work all the way to the meeting city with ZERO hassles by TSA, no parking garage charges, no delayed flights, no canceled flights, no baggage charge, no setting on the tarmac for hours, spending quality time with my wife. All in all we have learned to start early enjoy the ride and the view of the County side, stop for lunch or dinner when ever we fell like it. We all survived before Orville and Wilbur Wright figured out how to fly. As far as I am concerned there is no place I need to travel that is not completely accessible by car. From my point of view if Scrutiny by the TSA and intrusion by the Federal Government gets a lot worse all the planes can be put in Museums because the general public will collectively get feed up enough that with video conferencing and all the technology advances available today we can all be linked together in the same room while setting comfortably at home. In time the next phase of transportation will emerge and planes my not be needed at all. So keep up the heat TSA and lets see where this all ends up. The over riding undeniable test will be free enterprise. When the costs to operate and the hassles to conform become so overbearing that the general public refuses to pay we will have our answer to this situation. At least for now count me out of flying again.
There are lots of folks out there that think this invasive procedure is just peachy and that anyone that doesn't like being manhandled by a bunch of low grade goons is nothing more than a cry baby. Just remember we talked about this when, down the road, the already hurting airline industry is on its knees begging for help to stay in business! Those mockers say "If you don't like it , don't fly" I say you're damned right I won't! By the way, TSA next stop will be major sports events, shopping malls etc etc, this will never end until Americans say NO MORE!
Tom Sawyer:
The cards will work, if an only if, the TSA agent fully understands the medcial terminolgy on the card. In my case the agent did not know what a urostomy was, so what good would a card have done for me?
they can't understand english let alone medical terminology. this is the bottom of the barrel, individual.
The cards aren't designed to help the passenger but to make sure the TSA goon doesn't break someones ostomy bag and be forced to change their filthy gloves as a result. The card will not get you out of having your genitals palpitated by a low pay grade government goon. Don't fly commercial unless you absolutley have no other alternative.
