I can't believe that this woman was sent to JAIL for giving her father's address so her kids could go to a better school! Would this have happened to a WHITE WOMAN? I think not! Shame on the legal system!!

I think you asked the wrong question. The question is whether a person who used her father's address to get her children into a better school should have been sentenced to jail. The answer is clearly NO. And I'd bet money that if it had been someone like me (a middle-aged white woman) instead of the black mom, she would not have been taken to court, let alone sentenced to jail. What a travesty.

People do it all the time, the girl simple forgot she is Black, they are targeted not to receive a proper education. When their neighborhood schools were deliberately deprived of fair share dollars, updated books and equipment, full scholarships, they (not really they but individuals that didn't want their children to be another vicitm of that targeted attack) started seeking locations within the public school system that offer a quality education, off of the same tax dollars she paid but only found out those segregatedly receiving more was allowed to zone out people not in that neighborhood and in some case people that stayed in that neighborhood. Recognizing that they put the politically appointed courts to work under the claim of law while at the same time ignoring justice. Bottom line, people being targeted for termination need to get back to uniting, marching, reading law books for opportunity and to challenge constituional violations against a race. It is not a Black vs. White issue be cause all have help make racial division sponsor by the 2% to keep robbing all. Its one thing not to pay reperations but to keep the practice going definitely need to be challenged.

Despicable. Not only should she have not been jailed, her children and every child in this country should have the opportunity and right to go to a safe and excellent public school in the neighborhood in which they live no matter where it is. This business of vouchers and moving children from failing schools to better schools has to be addressed. Failing schools should be fixed. No school should be sub-standard in this country. It is all about politics.

Equal justice under law, really!! What I'd like to see now......prosecutions of parents who have and /or are using another address to send their children to higher learning institutions thus avoiding out of state tuition costs. What this judge and jurisdiction has clearly stated by the prosecution of this woman is, we have a system already in place that provides for our citizens in a manner consistent with our comfort level. She has violated that comfort level, thus denying the rights of any and all persons who are and will subsequently benefit from her child's inadequate education.

If anything this only proves how separate and unequal the public school system is. The only crime is that she felt compelled to do this in order to give her children a shot at a quality education.

Racism! I grew up in Akron and know just how common it is. Fairlawn has the best school system in Summit County and whether or not she falsified records on where she lived, really, what is the crime?! If she had been white, I promise, this would not have happened. Akron should be ashamed! Police should be taking care of the high prostitution and drug use/crime in their city. Despicable.

Regardless of class, income, or race, every school in the US does not have 100% residency confirmation come the first day of school, nor the last day of school. There are policies in place to address this where it is not to become a school issue, at least in the state that I live in. It is delegated to an authority outside of the school. It is appalling what the school decided to do, unheard of and a shame for the state entire state of Ohio, because as outsiders we don't know where Fairlawn is, but I know where Ohio is.

If these children were homeless, the story would've been different because homeless children cannot be denied an education, they have a special status that I cannot recall at this moment. What in the world entitles this school "closed enrollment" status, is this a fancy way to perpetuate segregation? Moreover, to have this status of "closed enrollment" for at least two consecutive years? What gives?

I can't even imagine how embarrassed the school families and school communities must be feeling right now. Horrible.

It happen in Long Beach/Compton on a regular basis. LB residents pay for the schools, compton residents do not and take advantage. When there is academic failure, or behavior issues, then they pack up and return to their school district with no consequences: Long beach students lose.
