The issue is professionalism and ethics. If you are going to lunch with a bunch of questionable people (with money to give away) it's your choice to comment in agreement with them, hold your tongue (to get the money regardless of your feelings), or if you follow your own morals/ethics and say what you really think (potentially loosing the business). If your professional ethics as a person controlling the mass media doesn't propel you to either hold your tongue, say it like it is, or decline the money because you don't want to be associated with the group then you have a great weakness. Who knows, you might even be willing to say anything to promote a cause, loose credibility, etc. THAT's why the top of NPR needs to step down- loss of credibility.

No, the logic should be that you dont get fired for speaking your mind, but precident was set that you do fire people for speaking their mind if it isnt politically correct. There is a reason people say elements of the Tea Pary are racist - because of statements and actions of some of the Tea Party. Does that mean every Tea Partier is a racist? of course not. There is a reason why people feel uncomfortable on a plane with people in muslim garb, because muslims have a history of blowing up planes. Does this mean all muslim are terrorists? of course not. While I agree with the resignation, republicans have been trying to get rid of NPR for years. If you ever listened to them (I seriously doubt, you have) you'd find they represent both sides in a lot of there stories. And so there fore, you can come up with your own opinion of who you think has the better answer. Instead of a Rush, Beck, Coulter, and on, and on, and on, telling you how to think. There is a distinct difference between "lying", and hearing something you disagree with.

I hear news at NPR, HuffPo & MsNBC and feel they, at best, "stretch the truth". Fox News- usually has both side of the story with both points of view. Are they my main news source? No. I check a lot of sources so I can make an informed opinion. It's always about SPIN! you can put a liberal or a conservative spin on anything. Same story- two different views. Juan Williams is a good example. Liberals believe he was being racist. Conservatives believe he has free speech to say what he feels. To be clear he said he was a little scared seeing a man in a turban after 9/11. So were a LOT of people- it's a natural instinct to fear something that hurts you- that doesn't mean you are a racist. That word gets kicked around so much now- it's almost lost its meaning.

People who take the line that "Fox News always lies!" is both ignorant and simple-minded. People who do the same for NPR are as well.

To all those who complain about NPR and PBS being left - most of their programming is not news at all, but general interest and kids programming. Please tell me how the following categories of programs are left-wing - wild-life, cooking, arts, music, do-it-yourself, general interest, kids programming. Note that non-news is the bulk of PBS and NPR programming. To those who call PBS/NPR left-wing, stop listening to what others have to say, and view/listen for yourself. A few of my conservative friends took my advice, and say that they have never enjoyed TV as much.

Comments on news are from both the right and the left. I have seen many Republican politicians on PBS. If these sods are so in a hurry to pull funding from PBS, then why do they agree to appear on PBS.

Please note that I am an independent conservative who does not wish to be linked to the Republicans, in any way. Also, about 70% of my viewing is PBS, and my car radio is permanently tuned to NPR.

In 2009 Fox News had various newscaster comment on the bail-out situation. They specifically said that the government needs to uphold the contracts of the CEOs who were bailed out. They repeatedly said that the government can not change contracts, or limit the salary, of the CEOs they bailed out. Maintaining their contracts was the most important thing.

Now, 2011, Fox News has publicly stated that the government CAN NOT uphold the contracts of teachers in the WI unions. Not only did Fox News call for a reduction in teach salary, but they argued that the contracts should be changed and the government has the right to do this.

So Fox News says that it is important to uphold all contracts, and then it is not important to uphold contracts. Which one is it? When did they lie, in 2009 or 2011?

Bill O'Rielly (sp) has been caught twice in the last couple months with using false footage to cover different political events. He lied about violence in WI by using footage from a California riot. He also lied about the size of political rallies by using footage from different rallies.

Glen Beck lies on a daily basis. In fact, I remember specific quotes by Glen Beck, regarding health care, which were proven lies when you actually read the health care bill.

These are the examples I remember off the top of my head. I will not research more, just watch and you will see the lies.

There is a MARKED difference between the PUBLIC sector and the PRIVATE sector. The public sector is what we the taxpayers fund and what we are able and willing to bear- we really have no choice in the matter since bureaucrats set the agenda. and public sector unions make it worse (the vicious cycle of unions fund the Democrats that get elected, then the politicians kick back to the union.). Since we don't have choice in this- limitations MUST be in place.
Private sector however is a different animal. We DO have choice here. We can choose not to bank with BofA or Chase. We can choose not to buy certain brands of products. We can bike or use mass transit instead of buying gas.
The similarity is what the market will bear. Private companies can make any deals they want to- the public has no say in it- nor should they. They are not the boss of the company. Consumers can control the purse strings- but that's really as far as it goes. So any deals they make in a private company is between the company and the employee.
In a public setting- WE are the boss and must have a say in it. The unions push back by saying they are negotiating on behalf of the employees- buy really they are negotiating against themselves and every other tax payer out there. "Let's raise taxes to pay the teachers more!" yea!! unfortunately, the teacher now pays more in taxes to pay for their OWN raise! It's completely counter-intuitive!

Look at it this way- You have your house and family- do you want ME coming in telling you how much you can have or what you can own? of course you wouldn't! But that's exactly what the left wanted the government to do in the corporate setting. It's none of their business! It's the private sector.
On the other hand- we send politicians to our capitals all the time. They are OUR employees- WE are the boss. Do we want to know what they are up to? Of course we do! This is the same as the public sector- it's YOUR money along with everyone else- you should have a stake in it- you do have a dog in this fight! And if you don't like the outcomes- you CAN change it! The beauty of public sector!

NPR has been a social beacon for years. I'm willing to bet everyone here that local news not supported by the big three were broadcasted on NPR. Your school teams, young adult concerts and many other educational facts about your area has been on NPR.

That's actually true. Considering that most people don't want to see their own race oppressed, degraded, or extinct.....and they're probably willing to fight to make sure it doesn't happen.

The real difference is that racial pride is encouraged and celebrated in every race except the whites because whites today are made to feel bad about their history. Regardless of the fact that all nations and tribes have conquered and enslaved at some point in their evolution, whites are given the impression by other races that their race is solely responsible for all the atrocities in the world, simply because they "succeeded" more often.

You see that was the solution to white racism toward minorities, not equality.....revenge. Now you see whites who ingraciate themselves to minorities (which is actually still racism) because they can't live with the fact that whites owned slaves and conquered lands. Even on MSNBC we have The Grio, which is a whole section dedicated to black supremacy, we have Eric Holder referring to "his people", and we have factual evidence that blacks vote 90% on race....there's no way anything like that would be acceptable concerning the white person.

When something like this happens, all Advertisers supporting NPR or other Media/TV/Radio back away. They do not want to be connected to racially charged issues.

Just look at Michael Vick, Tiger Woods (sexual tysts, deviate), others etc. They canned them, too, because the Advertisers do not want endorsements coming from people who will be offended and not buy their products.

NPR and PBS offer some of the best programing available. I love listening to Radio Times, Science Friday, Talk of the Nation, and Morning Edition. These shows have offer guests with expert (knowledgeable) opinions on the various topics. The shows' guests offer insight on all sides of the issue. NPR has a diverse format, Their weekend lineup is fantastic also with The Chef's Table, What's in Your Garden, Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me, Car Talk and a great Jazz.

PBS's nightly news and business reports give an unbiased, in depth and informative view of the day's events. PBS line-up is unsurpassed with shows such as NOVA, Masterpiece Theater, American Experience, FrontLine and Scientific Frontiers. PBS offers the best children programing on television. For the children shows alone, PBS should receive Federal funding. If the following shows I just mentioned are too top heavy, PBS also offer craft and cooking shows, along with Antiques Roadshow, Hometime and This Old House. PBS and NPR's programing is top-notched.

Issue Two

The reason that this country is falling apart isn't because the deficit is too high, or unemployment is at 9%, or unions, public workers, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or Healthcare Insurance Reform, this country is falling about because of RACISM and BIGOTRY. If the majority of this country, from its formulation, had treated all of its citizens as equals, there would be no need for a Black Panther, NAACP, Miss Black America Contest, (does one even exist now), The Black Caucus, The SLC or any separate group. These groups were started because of exclusion by the WHITE MAJORITY in this country. Minorities had to fight for equal rights to sit and eat at a lunch counter, to be allowed to sit where they wanted in movie theaters and on buses. Minorities have to fight to receive a decent education, to serve on equal standing in the military. You DARE to mention minority organizations. They exist because of RACISM by the majority.

The election of President Obama bought all of the ugly vile racists to the forefront. When I read statements such as "We are going to take this country back", This country is doomed, I ask why? Why because of small-minded individuals that could not see a bright, intelligent, visionary, but could only the person's color. When decisions are made, not based on facts, but based on skin color, there is a problem. I do not agree with everything President Obama has done or will ultimately do, but I would never call him out of his name, just as I never called any of our previous presidents out of their name. I was vehemently opposed to the decision to go into Iraq; however, I did not call the president a dummy or idiot or write that he did not know anything. I love my country enough to respect its leaders. I have faith in my country that anyone we elect has our best interest at heart. I do not base it on their skin color, I base it on the fact they chose to serve us, the American people. How about the Arabic Omani Muslims (Historically the Slave Capturers and Slave Traders) massacring the Peaceful Moderate African Islamic Believers by the Hundreds of Thousands (nearly a million to date) at Darfur, Sudan. These African Islamic Believers Historically were the Slaves captured by the Arabic Omani Muslims. Why are doing this today, the Arabic Omani Muslims believe that the African Peaceful Islamic Believers are Kaffir (the "N" word, as lazy, subhuman, monkeys, filthy, uneducated, etc.), that is what the Arabic Omani Muslims at Sudan think and strongly believe. As secondary reason (can be the primary) is these Peaceful African Islamic Believers do not want to participate in the Holy Koran (Quran) Calls to All Islamic Believers to War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers (everyone else) and the current Islamic Laws that support the War Against the Christians, Jews, Unbelievers for those Death Penalty Crimes Against Allah and His Prophet. And the Arabic Omani Muslims need the manpower to attack Southern Sudan (Darfur). So these Peaceful African Islamic Believers do not even fight back and are chopped to pieces (literally) by the Arabic Omani Muslims.

This all brings up why, President Obama's Father named him a Arabic Omani Muslim name as at Kenya near the Coast are the large populations of the Arabic Omani Muslims that own everything and control everything. There is a difference in the way an individual person (athlete, movie star, etc.) is treated as compared to a network. The advertisers are far more likely to pull the plug on a Vick or a Woods but stick with the network because they can throw the bad onto one area, person, etc. of the network. Besides, Vick is apparently not all bad for ratings since he was touted in a number of NFL spots during the last season. Of course the NFL doesn't have a problem plugging people that have killed pedestrians while driving drunk or committed various other serious crimes so that may not be the best example.

OC 912 Tea Party organized a rally in February, 2011. The rally took place in Yorba Linda, CA.

The protest was sponsored by "We Surround Them OC 912" which is the local tea party group, North Orange Country Conservative Coalition, and Pamela Geller (whose group "Stop the Islamization of America" has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center).

Muslims held an event to raise $350,000 for "women's shelters, fighting hunger and homelessness in the area." This was a charity event, but because it was primarily Muslims, the OC 912 Tea Party felt the need to protest.

During the protest, Tea Party members yelled "Go Back Home . . . Remember 9/11 . . . Do you go home and beat your wife" (ironic given the nature of the charity event) and various insults about sleeping with minors.

Besides personally seeing this myself, many news outlets have reported on this. (You can look it up yourself) The Tea Party in question claims this is a giant front for a terrorist fundraiser, yet no proof has surfaced of any charity money being used for terrorist activities. Furthermore, OC 912 has called for other Tea Parties around the country to stop Muslim events, such as this one.

The statistics say that religious Americans give four times as much money to charity each year than secular people, and are 23 times more likely to volunteer to help people than folks who never attend church.

The more important statistic is that poor people, regardless of affiliation, give, in percentage, more to charitable organizations than rich people.

I find it quite humorous that all you continue to do is tearing at each other’s throat, repeat quotes you hear on Fox news or NPR or MSNBC. I'm a conservatively liberal independent, that has served in the military for over 23 years, I have an education, a family, drive an SUV, love my guns (and have them registered) believe in a woman’s right to choose and feel that we don't use the Death Penalty enough. I am willing to fund education with my Taxes and believe that all hard working adults should pay their share (10% flat tax works for me). I don't believe in condemning a group of people because of their religious, ethnical or political beliefs. If you want to be treated like a man then act like a man. Calling each other names just makes you look like you never left Jr. High.

I don't know what history books you've been reading Wall. Here's a few problems with your rant:

1. Liberals and Marxists are very different things.

2. We've stuck together since long before the 1950's. America didn't begin during the days of McCarthy (although, like you, he did like to call everyone that disagreed with him a communist). For a more appropriate history lesson on people with political differences sticking together, see the 1860's.

3. All taxes are redistributive. If you want to get rid of them, you are going to have to let us keep the military and police.

4. Sometimes war is necessary, but if you don't recognize that it is awful, then there is something very wrong with you. Liberals have gone to war before. FDR, the one who started this dang welfare state in the first place, was our president throughout WWII. And all those liberal northerners whipped the southern conservative's butts (I know Lincoln was a Republican. He was also a social progressive, but I don't think he was a Marxist). Liberals are simply opposed to needless war.

5. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that oil and gas are not sustainable energy solutions (gas is practically $3.50 a frickin' gallon). Do you enjoy giving billions to the Middle-East? You don't have to import wind. Anyways, nobody is saying that we have to make a choice between oil/gas and renewables. It is actually possible to use both. As technology improves, we might actually even use less dirty, expensive, imported energy.

6. Again, Liberals are not Marxists. We are capitalists too. We just recognize that there is a need for regulation sometimes. There was a time in this country when we just let the free market run free. But then we got tired of child coal miners, stock market collapses, and rivers catching on fire.

7. So you like "rednecks" but not "homeboys"? No, the Tea Party isn't racist at all.

8. History is full of examples of powerful nations overextending themselves and collapsing. We've spent hundreds of billions in the two wars that we are already in. With the economy the way it is, going to war in Iran and Palestine would be disastrous.

9. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." You are free to believe in Judeo-Christian values. I believe in them too. However, it is unconstitutional for you to deny me the right to worship the flying spaghetti monster if I want to. It is also unconstitutional for the government to support a religious belief system. I thought you were a law student Wall.

10. You can keep the SUV's and other gas guzzlers. If you enjoy getting 15 miles to the gallon, you are a moron.

11. Every single industrialized country in the world outside of the US has universal healthcare. Amazingly, the entire free world also isn't communist. Somehow, I don't think people with brain cancer view their treatment as a luxury.

12. You can't have the National Anthem, the flag, our history, or our name. Conservatives don't have a monopoly on that.

To all those who complain about NPR and PBS being left - most of their programming is not news at all, but general interest and kids programming. Please tell me how the following categories of programs are left-wing - wild-life, cooking, arts, music, do-it-yourself, general interest, kids programming. Note that non-news is the bulk of PBS and NPR programming. To those who call PBS/NPR left-wing, stop listening to what others have to say, and view/listen for yourself. A few of my conservative friends took my advice, and say that they have never enjoyed TV as much.

Comments on news are from both the right and the left. I have seen many Republican politicians on PBS. If these sods are so in a hurry to pull funding from PBS, then why do they agree to appear on PBS.

Please note that I am an independent conservative who does not wish to be linked to the Republicans, in any way. Also, about 70% of my viewing is PBS, and my car radio is permanently tuned to NPR.

Personally, I listen to NPR on occasion and often watch PBS, I just don't think they should be government funded. Since it's only 10%, it really shouldn't be a major deal breaker for anyone in this thread anyway.

I dont listen to NPR but I can honestly say PBS is awesome. Learning shows for kids like Curious George (yes I definitely see the liberal slant), awesome cooking shows like Primal Grill (a liberal show if Ive ever seen one) and the News Hour with Lehrer (because they report unbiased info - they are definitely liberal).

I listen to NPR as much as I can. In all fairness, it regurgitates the same liberal talking points as many of the Democrats in Congress and elsewhere. As does MSNBC, ABC and CNN (over 70% of the time). Likewise, FOX seems very conservative (over 70% of the time).

We need to stop Congress from giving our money away to any and all organizations with the power to yield a biased viewpoint. This would definitely include foreign countries and / or news organizations, unions, corporations (not including supply purchases like defense), political groups, and any other special interest groups. They should only be able to give money to individuals in exchange for their goods or services working directly for the government in a constitutionally approved employment situation.

If a government official wants to publicly endorse an organization, let them do that verbally (or with their own money) only and never with any of our money.

That is what an interviewer who agrees with the person being interviewed. NPR interviewers challenge the few conservative guests they allow on the air, but not the liberal ones. I hhave spent a good portion of my working life in radio(commercial, not NPR) and have observed that NPR pays signnificantly better, has new equipment, is allowed to go into the community and get "underwriters"(defined as a local business). The NPR affiliate is not supposed to actually advertise for their "underwriters", but the local one here does exactly that. I have never been particularly happy that they get tax money to operate in the above described manner.

I know what bias people get from NPR. Even NPR does not 100% interview the representatives of both sides of the subject issue. But the news quality of NPR is much higher than T.V., F.M. radio, or A.M. radio (especially since A.M. radio cancelled all of it's syndicated shows back in the '90's). If people do not like NPR, they just did not sample it enough. My favorite station in L.A. is KPCC-89.9 out of Pasadena. KPFK-90.7 does have a leftist stance-but they make that clear, not trying to 'pull the wool over anyone's eyes'. KCRW-89.9 out of Santa Monica is O.K. I do believe that they all deserve to keep their federal funding.

Looks the "movement" started prior to the TARP signing which was under Bush. Wiki states that at least one website (ChicagoTeaParty.com) was registered in August 2008, which was prior to TARP and prior to the election, obviously. The first "national" protest didn't happen until '09 though.

It is common knowledge that liberal organizations send plants to Tea Party functions as part of a disinformation campaign. There are even web sites where you can sign up. This has been known for months and even reported on.

Yet the idiot liberals actually fall for it. Most have never really interacted with the Tea Party, because they rarely interact with anyone who doesn't share their belief. That's why they think they are the majority and everyone else is a dumb racist red neck.

If disagreeing to socialist policies makes me a racist then so be it.

1) One friend - tea bagger - on the public dole (so are his 3 kids) - thinks taxes are 2 high despite not paying any (property or income).

2) Same guy said Obama was starting a secret process to be elected to a third term.

3) Same guy (jobless mind you) equated the economic downturn was due to too much regulation.

4) Another tea bagger "acquaintance" wont call Obama "Obama" - only refers to him as a "n*****". Or some other clever racist term.

5) Same guy claims Obama (except thats not what he calls him) is trying to take all our guns despite him not doing a single thing towards gun control.

6) Same guy thinks Obama was born in Kenya and is a muslim.

7) Same guy said that an only good n***** is a dead n*****

8) Wife of acquaintance - no job, stay at home mommy, thinks we spend too much. Claims the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were initiated by democrats and its the democrats fault we are there. Also thinks ALL muslims are radical muslims.

12) Same woman says Obama tripled our deficit (despite not havinga deficit before 08 - quite the deep thinker she is).

Now a great way to get rid of the tea party would be for the nation to demonstrate some self control/reilance and accountability for their own actions. Okay, apparently you miss the concept of FREE SPEECH. If YOU want to say whatever you want, then you have to allow OTHERS to say what THEY want, even if you don't agree with them. Why is it that liberals believe "free speech" means THEY can say whatever they wish but everyone else has to shut up? Both sides have to be able to air their opinions so that both sides are heard. Then everyone get's to make up their minds what they believe. Your just upset that more people believe in moderate views, not liberal views. Nobody is stopping liberal radio. The government does not fund FOX. I believe this country is supposedly a "democracy" and supposedly a free country. If people want to support and listen to liberal talk radio nobody is stopping them. The problem is, they don't. That's no reason the government should support it. NPR has taken a political stance and therefore should not be afforded government funding. If public television or NPR was removed from a political stance and simply providing interesting program I could support the idea of public funding for them. Just like I cannot support public funding for FOX News because of their political stance, I cannot support NPR for their liberal stance. Why can't you liberals understand that nobody is stopping you from having your radio shows. We just don't think our tax dollars should be used to support your political stances. By the way, I don't think your tax dollars should be used to support conservative political stances either.

Actually, it is those who reside in the political "center," or moderates, who are able to see the madness from both extremes. You know, the "silent majority." For decades these folks went to work, paid their bills and built lives with the opportunities offered to them in the work place. Moderates would love to see more individual responsibility by citizens, less entitlement programs aimed at groups that use them as a means of avoiding taking responsiblity for themselves and children they produce. And, here's the big one: fiscal moderation. We must stop spending money we do not have or in the future America will be owned like the old Treaty Ports in China during the 1800s. Time to bite the bullet and start digging our way out of the abyss.
