Hope the tea bags pay dearly in the next election.
The Democrats will be punished next election. It was their job LAST year to produce a budget. Put blame where it belongs, not where you wish it should be.
The Dems had TWO YEARS and total CONTROL to put together a budget and didn't. So how in the hell does the TP have responsibility for this. VOTE ALL PROGRESSIVE/SOCIALIST DEMS OUT 2012!

========================================================
Why is it that people choose to forget that the Democrats passed a Budget in the House last June and the Senate Republicans (remember the party of "NO" and more especially the House Minority Leader's "HELL NO") filibustered the legislation.
AND NO, THE DEMOCRATS DID NOT HAVE A 60 VOTE MAJORITY THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NEEDED TO OVERRIDE THE FILIBUSTER!
It is amazing that the liberal democraps are trying to blame this on the GOP. If they had done their job--which they are paid quite highly for, this wouldn't be an issue. Educated people understand how this works, but the libs keep trying to find a way to make it other people's fault. Just like they do about taxes, welfare, unemployment, the rich--when will they stop blaming others and take a good long look in the mirror--quit being takers, never giving.
The Dems did push for an Omnibus bill last year and Repug McConnell threatened filibuster. It's the republic party that is the child in this game...they are the bait and switch party...the party of no....and you are just as guilty to believe in their lame excuses. Just remember history...the worst recession of history was caused by the Repugs...not the Democrats...and that's the truth.
The budget was due last October so why are you blaming the GOP??? They will not shut down.
So if the Republicans stand their ground they are not working with Democrats?
So if the Democrats stand their ground they are not working with Republicans?
Sounds to me the sysytem is working perfectly. We do not elect our representatives to go Washington to work with the other guys. We send them there to represent us. Amd sorry my republican represented have made it hard for the democratic party to pass their radical agenda.
But the great thing is your Demcratic representative keeps =my guy from doing stupid stuff.
Basically we have reps up there keeping other reps up there from doing doing stupid stuff. We needed that back whne they were voting for the stupid Obamacare.
Great. Another whiny "oooh tea baggers are evil" dope. Get a grip, & get over it. And yourself. What's your Messiah done except precipitate the ruination of my country? God, morons should be executed.
Oh my, "Tea Bags." There's always some idiot that will pop right up with something that he thinks will insult the other side so that they will not respond.
The Dems screwed up this whole budget process by themselves. But to be fair, all politicians suck.
greg:
The "tea bags" are doing exactly what an overwhelming majority elected them to do, genius. Next election, hopefully we'll see some more libs, like Schumer and Durbin, get sent home by the voters.
Those that hate the Tea Bags because they want to cut spending, chew on this for a few minutes.
The current budget being hashed over shows 250.7 B in interest payments for our gross public debt that gets fed by the big deficits our government creates due to spending too much.
In year, 2014, that same amount will be 509.9 B and so any savings or cuts in other departments is eating up with this huge int payment.
The gross debt when Obama took over was 9986 T. By 2016 according to his projections, that public debt will be 20,825 T.
This is NOT a republican nor a democrat problem, but denying these numbers will eventually force our int rates on our bonds to go up and thus costing more each month to service that debt and to sell that debt. Look at the bond rates of countries currently in trouble. This is where we are headed.
The servicing of our debt is a huge looming problem in that it eats up so much of the budget and it erases any savings elsewhere.
Folks, our debt does matter. We can't keep increasing our debt and still provide services and pay employees.
Jumpmaster82
That's correct, so why is an abortion rider attached?
Why are hundreds of riders that protect unions and welfare fraud attached to the Dem version of the budget?
Why did the republicons fight so hard to give huge tax breaks to corporations making record profits?
Is it wrong to just say I DON"T GIVE A *%^&... They ALL need to put their egos aside and do what is right for the people who elected them!
Actually it's both parties fault this impasse. The dems are weak and their leader Obama is no leader, and the repubs don't negotiate in good faith and are too busy trying to score poltical points to actually legislate and they too are leaderless because Boner is too busy crying to control his side of the isle. If only Boner was more of a man like Pelosi was. And Obama was more of a leader like President Bill Clinton, or either side was more of a compromiser like Reagan and Tip O'Neil, but with every new congress the gene pool thins and the politicians get weaker and weaker. No wonder Europe laughs at us.
Republicans have abused the fillibuster to make sure nothing passed since the current administration took office. This way they can say the Democrats never passed anything.
Social agendas should not be part of the budget bill. Ever. Budget bills need to be kept clean. That goes for all sides.
And if the Republicans are so damned concerned about our debt, then why keep pushing for tax cuts for the top 2%? The 2% have had these cuts for almost 10 years now -- where are the jobs? It's costing the taxpayers $700 Billion over the next 10 years (never mind what it's cost us for the past years) ... for what? Our investment for the top 2% has yet to "pay off" in continued job growth. But it was never about jobs -- was it?
To those saying the Dems should have had a budget last year, I say this....when Obama was elected, anytime someone mentioned 'Bush's wars' we got a quick reply that Obama was now President and they were his wars. And the blind support of the wars and President at all costs - re: deficits don't matter - was quieted quickly once Obama added the costs of the wars to the budget (which is part of the major increase in the deficit that the right is screaming about...along with the Bush tax cuts, Medicare part D, and the recession). So, in that philosophy, I now say that this is Boehner's budget...he needs to own it!
The Teabaggers own this one solely and they need to go away now maybe to planet Xenon, the comic book people need to go back to the comic book planet with there tin foil hats in hand.
The EPA and whats left of Planned Parenthood have no business in this budget and should be left out of this debate. Sorry boneheads this has nothing to do with abortions, this is to protect your child from STDs, or help your wife find the early detection of breast cancer and cervical cancer in woman. WOMENS HEALTH that's all this is about.
And I don't know what city you all live in but I could stand for some cleaner air. How many of you and your kids have asthma and allergies. You can see and breath it in the air with every new step you're child makes and everyone you take. I'm sick of it, and the so far to the right Tea Baggers have fallen off the chart with their demands. I want what's going to be best for all people in the long run, not some silly victory so two men can bump chests at the end of the day.
Two things:
1. The "shutdown" is nothing to be concerned about in the slightest. Happened before in the 90's. Did anyone notice? The shutdown is a non-issue.
2. As long as we're talking about a non-issue, if the government "shuts down", then each taxpayer should get a check for their share of the budget that isn't spent, per day.
No refund for the taxpayer = no shutdown.
Congress, just pass the silly $4 trillion budget, so we can get to financial armageddon sooner rather than later. The suspense is killing me.
Cathy in Las Vegas
I could not have said it better so I copied it !
Very, very good Cathy!

You’re kidding, right? The Tea Baggers INSIST on shutting down the government because if they can make America fail, that’s a “win” for the Tea Baggers and Republicans.
Have Republicans AGAIN closed their eyes and ears to their chanting voters who are calling for “NO COMPROMISE”? No matter WHAT the Democrats say, Tea Bagging Republicans will say the exact opposite and then deny they’re flip-flopping because they say they are united in their opposition.
All over the Internet Tea Baggers and Republicans are calling for shutting down the government with chants of “That’s what we sent them to Washington for!” and you STILL can’t take credit for your own orchestrated work?
Lie in the face of truth if you like, because the rest of America is NOT deaf, dumb or blind.

I know I won't forget.
"America" wont fail if the "Federal" government is shut down, since the States will do just fine without such tyranny over them. The "Federal" government was not instituted to control and govern individuals and the States, as if the People were its subjects or the States its colonies -- to wit,
"... the General Govt was meant merely to PRESERVE the State Governts: NOT to govern individuals: that its powers ought to be kept within NARROW LIMITS;" (July 27, in convention)
So, unless the "Federal" government can be restored to that for which it was instituted, it is best that it be shut down so as to relive the States and the rest of the world from its tyranny and invasions into everything for which it has utterly no business whatsoever.
the t.e.a bagger will pay very very dearly on next election
We can't go around and execute all the morons. If we did, we wouldn't have a democratic party.
It's pathetic how many people still put their trust in either one of these parties. Please stop voting. Your country doesn't need you.
I bet noone barking the "fillibuster last year" comments even know WHY they threatened it. Do you KNOW what was in it to warrant that or are you just repeating the end result like MSNBC stories do?
Do you know WHY the rider bill is in there about abortion? Do you remember Obama promising an executive order to keep taxpayer $$ from funding it in the final days of the HCR debate?
It's the same on everything from the far left.
Example:
Story: Man goes crazy over tax increases, lost job to NAFTA, home foreclosed due to Fannie/Freddie crash warned about by the right years ago, kills someone in a fit of rage.
Far Left: OMG Gun control is needed now!!!
The 'teabagpublicans' weren't in power LAST YEAR WHEN THE DEMS HAD NO BUDGET.
Whats with the concept of 'fillibuster'? The right never had a budget bill from the Dem's to fillibuster. The only thing they offered was a continuing resolution.
And the Republicans offered to fund the military and extend the shutdown and the president vowed to veto it. And yet you are still blaming this on the Republicans?
At least the Republicans have a proposal.
The Democrats have NOT EVERY PROPOSED A 2011 BUDGET in 2010 WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE. DEMS - OWN IT AT LEAST. IT IS FACT.
THERE WAS *NO* TEAPARTY MEMBERS IN CONGRESS LAST YEAR. THERE WAS NO FILIBUSTER OF THE DEMOCRATS non-existant 'omnibus bill'. There was no bill.
JUST AS IN WISCONSIN THE DEMS HAVE SHOWN THEMSELVES AS SPINELESS BAGS OF RIDICULE VYING TO SPEND OUR NATION INTO BANKRUPTCY WHILE ESPOUSING FUZZY RHETORIC THAT DOESN'T HAVE *ANY* RELATION TO REALITY.
So... to those that think the Dem's were filibustered. Give us the bill verbal identifier. I am curious. I think it's next to the ark of the covenant and the throne of the king of Atlantis.
I don't remember the dems proposing a budget last year and the republicans threatening to filibuster it. There is no bill number for the budget posted in the bill record. Isn't it amazing how the left will twist their own little yarns to do anything to make the republicans look bad. What it amounts to is pure BS from the libs. The left trys to maintain credibility but falls short everytime... bunch of lying hypocrites.
Another thing - for the bills that the republicans did filibuster - THEY HAD REASON!! I love the way the left calls the republicans the party of no. For the most part, I agree with the no's they were issuing. It was the only way to stop progressive implementation of stupid laws that would harm freedom.
Amazing how the liberals simply can't figure that out. They would rather give up freedom for some stupid governing law that will eventually box in all Americans... all in the name of progressivism.
Liberals - I can't believe honest Americans want to side with the likes of George Soros and all socialist progressives to remove our freedom. Maybe you just don't see it, or you are so hell bent on losing freedom that you simply don't care.
I can't believe you guys want to side with the Rupert Murdochs and all the Dictators that want to make you a complete slave. Keep watching fox news and jokers like beck, and pretending that a foreign owner of one of the largest American news stations doesn't have an agenda against all Americans. Old boy rupert seriously doesn't care about you, me, or any other American that doesn't make him untold millions, you can bank on that.
This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!
545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
300 mil. can replace the 535 (justices appointed for life). Will not happen overnight. Process started Nov. 2010!! Phase 2 coming Nov. 2012!!
Wildinaustin,
That is about the best description of the problems with government I've ever read.
However, trying to motivate 30 mil people to do something that benefits both this country and its' citizens is an even bigger problem. Many would rather sit on the sidelines and let others handle the problems. Many won't even consider listening to people with various opinions simply because it's not within their narrow field of vision.
People need to open their eyes and their minds for any meaningful progress to be made.
Congressional and White House budgets need to be slashed.
No congressional raises for the next 3 years.
Stiff fines, published names for Medicaid and social service programs fraud
and if incumbents can't get the job done let's clean house.
most of you have a short memory. We can not afford to shut the government down over the tea party wish list. the republicans have said no to everything over the past year and before. get some common sense. if you want the government to shut down what good will that do? Are you all in a dream world or just wrapped up in the tea party baloney.
Wild,
The Joke is that each side feels it's the othersides fault as by the reply comments below your article. And the new congressman and woman are no better than the old. We use to compromise in this country, try to find common ground and work from there. But in this modern media age we posture instead of legislate. We play to the lowest common demoninator of each side. It use to be that we were a centrist nation, slowly prodding along in a straight path. But now we swing from left to right. One side comes into power and their agenda is to undue the other sides accomplishments of the other side. And both sides cater to the extremist of their party. So you wonder why Independents are the fastest growing party (10 x faster than the tea party even though they get little press) So when they learn to truely compromise than we can call ourselves a nation again until then we will be a "House Divided......"
This started before the Tea Party. After Obama won in 2008 the Republicans became the Party of No! Their sole purpose was have Obama fail. Unfortunately the bailouts implemented by George Bush have succeeded.
The TARP program was created in 2008 to stabilize the financial system and money was allocated to bailout GM. Thank you George Bush.
The saga continues. The Party of No! is unable to govern and is now pandering to extremists. Good luck in 2012
US corporations pay the highest tax rates in the world. Japan just lowered theirs due to the earthquake/tsunami crisis. Get your facts straight!
Two thousand U.S. companies paid a median effective cash rate of 28.3 percent in federal, state and foreign income taxes in a 2005 study by academics at the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina. The combined national-local statutory rate is 34.4 percent in France, 30.2 percent in Germany and 39.5 percent in Japan, according to the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Wild - great post!!
Now if we can just get everyone to understand both parties are to blame and both parties need to figure out how to work together to get us out of this mess...
Jane,
I think you need to get your facts straight. GE paid no tax last year as an example. I just heard a report yesterday about how Disney has to 'share' over 50% of the money they make in China with the Chinese government. These are just two examples. But of course we can't ask large companies to pay their fair share of taxes in this country or else they might go to China where they'd have to pay 55% instead of the US where they pay closer to 0.
Jane-3079565 That's assuming that they PAY taxes it all, depends on the loopholes. GE made Billions of Dollars in profit but paid no taxes and got money back on thier federal tax return, ALL leagally!
So you see it all depends on the tax code. don't just spit out snippits without knowing the whole story!
most of you have a short memory. We can not afford to shut the government down over the tea party wish list.
But we can afford it for the liberal wish list? It takes 2 to tango.
Besides, I lost count of the # of times the far left laughed at and ridiculed the Tea Party and said they couldn't possibly make a difference. Arrogance over the issues ran so high that the left resorted to name calling & prejudice claims against those left of center and undecided in 2010 elections. The outcome was clear.
Now the Tea Party is to blame? How...ironic.
Start balancing the budget by taking away their pension, insurance and
other perks and give them what we have. Equality .
Every one of them that come into office leave as millionares.
What is that about when they are unable to perform the functional duties
we elected them to perform.
The major multinational corporations leave their profits in other countries
to save 35% in taxes. They book the cash asset on their balance sheet, then borrow billions at 1% interest. Then they use the money going forward to run their fiscal budgets and pay 3% dividends to their stockholders who
applaud their performance as in their tax bracket as millionaires saves them
from paying on the dividends LOL Oh the wheels on the bus go round and round!
Funny thing is you do not get what is being said. They are all to blame for squables and trying to ramrod their ideals. This is not what Americans want. I think Americans deserve to have a "no confidence" vote on the ballot if both candidates stink. This would take care of campaign reform and give some power back to the people. Currently we are powerless just like the folks in Wisconsin. Very sad. We are at the mercy of the "Elite Society." We are mad at the system including all parties. The game is not funny and neither side is right.
Knowing a lie when you see it.Open your eyes middleclass republicans your pill will be bitter as ours if they shove down your throats .SURE AM GLAD I'M LIBERAL,at least I know the truth.Tea party is a word for sold out to highest bidder.
livingfree- What's the truth? Or should I ask, what is your truth? That we should use "gubermint" to rob one person and pay another? Or that we should collect every dollar centrally, and that 535 morons who can run a business (or their own lives) will better decide what is good for you than you can?
Mine is simple: I keep what I earn. I'll give to who I deem worthy, for causes I find beneficial. No one person can manage my money or my life better than I can. No person, society, or government can help my family and friends in times of duress better than I can.
BLUF (That's Bottom Line Up Front): We can no longer afford to pay for programs that provide no value for America.
2nd BLUF: Elected representatives in both parties BUY VOTES by providing services to those who do not pay for them, on the backs of those that do.
3rd BLUF: Any program that cannot define success and measures BEFORE FUNDING should never be funded. Any program that cannot meet it's measures should be ended immediately. And program that cannot be measured should be ended immediately
4th BLUF: If it can be done in the public sector, no matter how hard it is, then it should not be done in any level of government.
We cannot keep throwing our hard earned money, which is in fact our lives because that is the fruit of our labor and our efforts, to fund every bright idea some unaccountable agency, "gubermint" program, or elected official identifies as another way to grab power. The party is over, and the bill is now due. Hell, when do we get to say "No!"
For that matter, when will Liberal go back to the root of it's name? When will you stand for out liberty again? Why are we indebted upon birth to provide for a class of people who deemed themselves too special to earn their own way? Why are we responsible to pay for goods, services, and care of individuals who, through their own actions, imposed a condition upon themselves that requires them to consume such things to "solve their problem"? Why do we have to provide for ideas, arts, and products that require "gubermint" funding, because those ideas, arts, and products cannot find a consumer willing to pay for them in society?
You may have your truth. I wish you well wherever to plan to implement it. Don't ask me to fund it, and I won't give you my opinion about it. Nor will I force you to defund it. But if you take my property to build you truth, then you damn sure better expect me to stop it.
Corporations do not pay taxes? In American they pay (near) the highest tax in the industrialized world.
It is sad seeing folk defend how our legislators are acting. One thing congress could have done was exempt the GI like the did themselves from the shutdown but they left them in to use as a bargaining chip. Then they go on and on about how they are doing things for our childrens future How about being fair to our children now who are protecting our country. This whole rider process needs to stop. Abortion should not be attached to the budget and dare I say someone using whether or not we have clean air is in this mess! For those who would vote against the bill because of the attachment Id have to agree because we all gotta breathe. There are other venues to debate and pass laws on social issues.A lot of you are talking about who you gonna replace at the next election but take a look at who you replaced last election. I am a conservative and these new folk are just heartless in term's of not recognising the human toll of what the want to do. You can save money without killing the host
Come on posters. You know last October the democrats had the power to enact any budget they wanted. They didn’t because it was too close to the November elections to enact a wildly expensive, irrational and irresponsible budget that would be theirs alone.
Now, they can still get most of their boondoggle of a budget passed and be able to lay half the blame on the republicans. Why else would they be fighting over the cutting of a paltry few billion in a budget with a 1.6 trillion deficit? So they can say; See? The republicans voted for this budget too.
Great post wild!! I agree this whole mess is both parties fault. I personally think both sides need to grow up and get over themselves. Currently we are fighting 2 wars, and just started a third, we have a $14 trillion deficit, schools shutting down left and right, and no one can seem to get a grip on their ego. This govt shut down affects more than just those in the govt. it will affect your tax returns, it will affect the military pay checks, oh and not just theirs every govt worker pay check, so if you are civil service thats you. this is not about planned parenthood or whose right or wrong this is about ego, and it needs to stop. oh it wont stop until you quit electing people who have been in congress for years. unlike the president there is no term limit. there should be, we need fresh blood in there. its about time that something happen.
They were sent to Washington to defund Obamacare and stop the spending. Let it happen, do or die.
Fantastic Post, Great information, 100% accurate. The 534 idiots retain their power by dummying down americans. Most people under 30 today know more about american idol then the three branches of government. Elections are pushed on emotions and rhetoric instead of facts. Americans have been conditioned for years to be more ignorant than the generation before them so they wont stand up and toss the bums out and reinstate the government our constitution called for.
While I will agree there's fault with both parties, the scale definitely leans towards the left of center. Especially over the past 2 years. The democrats scream that the republicans are stopping them at every turn... but this makes no sense because the democrats had enough votes to pass everything they wanted... The republicans could do nothing except filibuster and for a while, they didn't even have enough members to do that.
Our current financial problems fall squarely on the shoulders of the democrats. Now before the liberals start screaming bloody murder, here's why. The democrats had a chance to reverse the spending and try to reduce the budget. They had 4 years to do it and they failed. Now the republicans want to curtail costs and reduce, the democrats are all up in arms. The democrats had their chance to show the country they were interested in controlling costs and spending and they didn't do it. Plain and simple.
Corporations do not pay much tax even though we may have a high tax rate there are so many loopholes and dodges that most pay less percentage than an average middle class taxpayer GE and exxon both get billions in refunds yearly
Breaking news. A 3 day extension may be imminent. I HOPE SO.
My only concern are people's paychecks. It is NOT fair.
http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/04/08/congress.budget/index.html?hpt=T1#
The republicans could do nothing except filibuster and for a while, they didn't even have enough members to do that.
You counted wrong. The Republicans had 41 in their caucus as of 2010.
The democrats had a chance to reverse the spending and try to reduce the budget.
Not really, they had an opposing Republican President for two of those years and did not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate until 2009-2010.
I doubt that the fans of W would stand idly by if the Democrats tried to man up and cut the defense budget.
"They're hurting our troops!" - Sound familiar?

Congress is not allowed to change their pay during the current session because the Constitution specifically prohibits any changes in pay (up or down for the current session of Congress). Such changes can only be for future sessions.
3rd BLUF: Any program that cannot define success and measures BEFORE FUNDING should never be funded. Any program that cannot meet it's measures should be ended immediately. And program that cannot be measured should be ended immediately
Taking this further, all government programs should be self-sufficient. For example, the revenue the entity takes in should pay the expenses.
wildinaustin,
I agree with everything in your post except for the numbers, 545 is incorrect. 300,000,000 would be the correct number of guilty people.
WE put them where they are. WE allow them to play their games and do nothing about it but run OUR mouths and spout off on the internet.
The American people (WE the people) are responsible for this mess because WE put them there and WE turned OUR backs and let them govern as they see fit.
WE let them tell US how to live OUR lives. WE listen to them when they tell US that WE do not need to know certain pieces of information.
WE act as sheep. WE act like children crying to Mommy and Daddy for more desert and toys.
WE have no one to blame for this but OURSELVES.
WE can change the situation if WE choose, but let's face it, WE are all just happy to pull the blankets over OUR heads and wait for the boogeyman to go away.
WE talk and talk, but in the end, WE are pathetic.
MDionne if you google why the congress gets paid during a shutdown you will find a related article that legislation was entered in march of this year to allow the military to be paid during the shut down it did not pass
@ Evil Jason, And the 545 know this. They prey upon it with viciousness. They play the so called conservatives fears of socialism off of the so called liberals fears complete loss of all freedoms, including speech and marriage(read gay marriage). It is similar in a way to Pro Wrestling, they are mortal enemies while on stage, then after they show, they go have dinner and a drink together. The whole time laughing it up all the way to the bank. During Reagan's 8 years, I became somewhat of an Independent in my voting. After George H. W. became president, I became completely Independent. Now, it seems that Americans are waking up(hopefully) by the millions to not vote solely partisan as they are seeing how dangerous it is to our country. We need all these hard right wingers, and hard left wingers to wake up and smell the coffee, it isn't about us, it is about them(politicians, and their special interests).
Shut down averted.
The Tea Party has ticked me off with one comment. The "head" of the Tea Party said Boehner sold them out.
You know what dude? I am very pleased with this budget. ECSTATIC in fact.
My gripe was with the wild spending spree the Democrats were on. They were stopped tonight.
I don't have anything against a few social programs but we were over the top and Obama wanting to raise the debt ceiling to pay for more was too much. NO. I don't want to be owned by the Chinese.
Tonight, the Tea Party really ticked me off.
And the jerkoffs who were going to bring their trash to John Boehner's residence are jerkoffs who should be arrested if they go to his house.
Well Karen, if you think slashing around 38 billion from a budget that has a 1.65 trillion deficit qualifies as stopping the Democrat’s wild spending spree, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion.
However, it’s my opinion that the Tea Party’s contention that Boehner sold them out is pretty accurate.
The republicans were played for fools and they caved over the threat of a shutdown. What we now have is a budget with a 1.62 trillion deficit, all to be added to our enormous debt. Some savings.
It seems these republicans were more concerned about de-funding certain programs than actually cutting the budget.
Wildinaustin 2
Great post wild but your last sentence is only wishful thinking as these same people have spent enormous amounts of the taxpayer’s money on a myriad of entitlement programs all calculated to put as many people beholding to them as possible, which is how they retain the power to be elected time after time.
Regarding democracy, I believe Karl Marx once stated that as soon as elected officials discover they can raid the treasury with abandon, a democracy will soon collapse under its own weight. Those in congress are doing exactly that and only serving to hasten the end of our democracy.
Wet Willy
Tonight the Tea Party - who I used to support for the most part - TICKED ME OFF. I will lobby against it.
I am sooooooooo tired of extremists. Tea Party people are fascists and Obama is a socialist. I am over both sides. Republicans are MODERATE at this point in time.
The Republicans got 2/3 of the cuts they wanted so I don't seen why you don't view this as a victory. I do not agree to cut Planned Parenthood but I agreed with the other cuts.
I am an independent voter with my own interests in mind. I also do not agree to draconian cuts to social security or medicare.
The feds have been taking my social security taxes for 34 years. That is probably longer than you have been alive. There is no way that it will be turned off.
I'm a baby boomer. There is more of us than any of you and we vote and we pay taxes. TOO MUCH TAXES.
Dems will cave in at dinner time and you can't spell Republican without Pub, so they will need to hit the bar for a cocktail at happy hour. It'll be over by 7 PM tonight. Gotta make the evening news.
Lol how funny! I agree the Dems had 2 DAMN Years of total Control and couldnt do a Damn thing about the budget and You expect them to do it by midnight tomorrow?? Hahaha! Thats a laugh!! Come on people!! Isnt it obvious!? The Dems dont seem to care because they're too damn liberal, irresponsible, immoral and think they have a free ride on our TAX DOLLARS!! Lay off the GOP for once because this time, at least they're actually trying to help us get out of debt so we can improve the economy and which in turn will produce more JOBS! Its a process people! IT'S Common Sense... You can only buy with what you have and if you dont have the money you cant buy it!! So cut backs are necessary, deal with it.
The Dems did pass budgets in those 2 years. The Repubs voted against them. That is why they had all of those stop gap bills, because the party of 'No' would not agree or work towards a compromise.
WOW! How can a party with majorities in both Houses of Congress prior to January of this year not pass there own budget. Democrates voted against the budgets or they would have passed over the objections of the Republicans. The Dems would not let the Republicans have any say in the budgets that is why the Republicans voted against them. 2.9 trillion dollar deficit has been created by the stupid actions of Congress over the last 2 years. It is time to let reson rule. If we don't have it don't spend it. Keep it simple and stop the blame.
Now you know the democrats can't keep the vote count up if they don't budget the Social programs that are breaking the backs of working Americans. Make G.E. & Jeffery immelt pay taxes on his 14.2 billion would be a good start. It is real funny that the ED SHOW or Rachel Maddow have not discussed that on their programs.
I hope the democrats learn they can't spend other people's money like it were their own. This madness has to stop before this country goes broke. You can't spend what you don't have. Cut to the bone!
Short memory. It was not the democrats that overspent and led us to this. Yes, there is blame on both sides. The federal deficit has been an issue for a long time. Making draconian cuts to programs that are working and saving money is short sighted and will lead to great need for so call entitlements.
A government shutdown costs a huge amount of money. There are also a huge amount of lost revenue.
If the Republicans really care about Americans, then why have they not done a single thing to create jobs? All they are doing is destroying them.
I agree the Dems had 2 DAMN Years of total Control
And you are DAMN wrong. They only had 59 senators. NO CONTROL.
I hope the democrats learn they can't spend other people's money like it were their own.
Hysterical comment also, BLUE states GIVE MORE THAN THEY TAKE, red states TAKE MORE THAN THEY GIVE. So who is the leech? Who is the one spending more than they earn?
Control of all 3 branches doesn't mean supermajority. Fillibuster threats mean something is very wrong with the proposals by the other party. That doesn't make it the other party's fault. It means they couldn't come up with something so agenda driven that they can't even get 1 vote from the other party.
If Democrats require supermajority to get their bills passed, it's a problem. Republicans seem to be doing fine with 1/2 of 1/3 the gov't in control.
wink wink this makes twice the republicans got us in this mess.Guess what it took a democratic president lead us out of their failed republican politicies. But their buddies made a lot of money,it just didn't trickle down.Don't forget they like tell you how live .But it seems to me their river runs backwards.
Absolutely, totally amazing how few people on this site get it. Boys and girls of all ages, we are in deep sheeit with trillions of dollars piling up with billions of dollars in interest alone. In the not-to-distant future, the interest alone will be 30% of our budget. Do you not get it? We the people are responsible for ourselves -- so stop giving away all the tax dollars (and, yes, Virginia, most corporations do pay taxes) to all the undeserving crap.
The tea partiers are on a mission despite the majority of us don't agree with their agenda. This budget isn't really about money but social and political issues.
Your view point is somewhat distorted. Do you really believe the federal budget desired by the progressive liberals is not all about pushing their social agenda off on conservatives? (think Obama Care). I would also question your understanding of who makes up the majority in America. This country is, always has been and hopefully always will be center-right. If Obama ever hopes to get a second term, he needs to move there now, just like Clinton did to get his second term. Carter never understood that. Guess what, he lost his bid for a second term left of center liberal.
Bob T, by definition this country is in the center. This country was center-right 50 years ago when the center was 1000 miles to the left. Now that the center has moved so far to the right, I would actually say we are center-left, and I believe that the tea-party - buying into small govt, libertarianism proves this point by not also pushing Christian based laws onto everyone. When they say limited goverment and freedom of the people to choose, they really mean it. So if you choose to be a muslim, go get an abortion with your own money, smoke pot, marry your gay partner, whatever, you should be free to choose what you do with your life and not have BIG GUBMIT tell you what to do with your life.
The tea partiers are on a mission despite the majority of us don't agree with their agenda.
I dare you to find a poll to back up that statement. Less than 20% identified themselves as far left in the latest poll. 2010 elections also told a different story. < 50% approval for Obama also tells a different story. Try expanding your horizons beyond liberal talking points.
And as for what "center" is, by definition that would be people who back the laws of the land written by both parties. IE: The Constitution. Far left and right are those who want to change (or ignore) the Constitution to fit their beliefs.
The Dems love Planned Parenthood so much they will sacrafice all others to keep the 300M...don not give in Rps!
no, the democrats just like being able to provide poor or low income woman with healthcare such as cancer screening, birth control and it's not soly focused on abortion.
of course, the is a good solution, get the Healthcare as reformed up and running so that american women wouldn't have to rely on services like these...
ps I have used Planned Parenthood, when I first graduated from high school, for birth control because I didn't have health insurance and for yearly exams...
We will say it again. Planned Parenthood gets NO federal funding for abortions. It has been that way for a long time. By defunding Planned Parenthood, all that will happen is that many women will not have access to family planning and other health services. By the way, the House republicans also want to cut funding to community health centers and for public health. This apparently is their alternative to the affordable health act. They want the No health care act.
Are you telling me that the HCR bill you guys cheered on so much is irrelevant enough that we still need other tax funded health care branches to get health care benefits to people? That bill was worse than I thought.
Rather than bicker about it, the Dems could negotiation speeding up that section of HCR as an alternative idea. Obama said it was deficit neutral after all. What could possibly be the problem?
You got it backwards: The Repubs hate planned parenthood and womens health services and a womans right to choose so much, that they are willing to sacrifice all others if they can't get PP shut down.
It's no secret the government shutdown was on the Republican agenda from the start. It's the Tea Party chanting "SHut it down! Shut it down!" not the Democrats. The Dems have tried and are trying to prevent this, but it is the Republicans forcing their hand. Don't you dare blame the Dems.
Why can't Planned Parenthood, which provides medical services, not survive without our tax money? Is Planned Parenthood such a good idea that it can't bill or generate through donations the funding to keep the doors open, and as such it must demand funds at the point of a guns via Federal taxation?
And where in the Constitution does it state "abortions and breast exams on demand"?
The nit-picking Tea Party is supposed to be concerned about the deficit......but are only complaining about issues totalling 0.143% of the total budget proposed. It has nothing to do about the budget............
The Dems love Planned Parenthood so much they will sacrafice all others to keep the 300M...don not give in Rps!
Organic Joe, It's not just Planned parent hood that the Tea Party is going after, since your name is Organic Joe do you realize that they also are trying to stop funding for the EPA? Do your research Joe..the Tea Party people are not doing what is right.
And your response is typical of the far Right looney-toons who think that just because they dislike a program the rest of us should also.
What you and the rest of your zealots don't understand is that the 28% of America who labels themselves members of a group calling itself the "TEA PARTY" doesn't make them the majority.
According to mathematics you need a number greater than 50% in order to label yourself as the majority, or absent the 50% you would need to have the highest percentage out of the pool in order to gain the label MAJORITY. 28% representation out of a pool of 100% doesn't give you the clout, power, right or mandate (you choose the title) to hold this government hostage, and most assuredly the military members and their families, so that you can implement your ideological purity as it pertains to the funding of the American social agenda.
De-funding Planned Parenthood, the EPA, the Clean Air Act, Healthcare Reform Act and the rest of the TEA PARTY/REPUBLICAN ideological hate list would still not BALANCE THE BUDGET or REDUCE THE DEFICIT. What is being represented here amounts to only 12% of the Federal Budget. The other 88% has been placed off limits by the Republican/Tea Party members. So lets be truthful about what this BUDGET IMPASSE is all about, and it isn't the money. The Democrats have agreed to a minimum of $34 Billion in cuts from this representative 12% of the budget, and the Republican/Tea Party still says no, even thou their House Leader originally asked for only $33Billion. See a pattern here?
Let's hope the EPA is defunded. We need to drill for oil in this country and that anti-American bunch of nut jobs keeps preventing it.
yeah and the Communist EPA deserves to defunded and dismantled
Yeah and lets get rid of planned parenthood so we can have more drug addicted, out of wedlock babies that we can support with our tax money....wait, no, not with our tax money.....lets see, I am a Christian and a patriot...so...the babies will be born and since they will be poor, we will let them starve if the mother doesn't support them, whilst I and the rest of the bankers celebrate with Pork and alcohol...just like the bible says....
no, the democrats just like being able to provide poor or low income woman with healthcare such as cancer screening, birth control and it's not solely focused on abortion.

The EPA should NOT be defunded, they should be the group in control of the entire country! Send these greedy a**hole Senators and Congressmen to jail, along with the Wall Street criminals, and start governing our country on common sense and with strict and proper environmental controls on all industry. Would this cause turmoil? Probably so, but mostly for those same greedy a**holes who need to be put in jail anyway.
Real solution: STOP THE STUPID WARS that are going nowhere and are the real reason our country is going downhill. Bring our troops home to protect our borders from all intruders, and keep our soldiers and tax dollars out of other countries business. Then, if any country wants to mess with us, don't pussy-foot around: hit them hard and fast with big firepower and end it in one swift blow. Any "war" America gets into should be over in a week or two. We have the power and should demonstrate it, striking enormous fear into any piss-ant radical who thinks he can mess with a superpower.
You dumbass folks who want to "defund the EPA" should be forced to live, eat, and sleep in a giant tank filled with industrial waste and your own excrement. The EPA has done more to protect you idiots than any other organization on Earth, including "Homeland Security", and you want them eliminated. It is you partisan dumbasses who should be eliminated (regardless of which side you're on).

If it wasn’t for the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) we wouldn’t have known that Japan is spilling Plutonium from 3 of its crippled nuclear plants, and without the EPA we’ll all suffer from nuclear fallout without ever knowing how it could have been prevented.
Why don't you talk to Bush and Cheney about your oil concerns, after all it’s Bush and Cheney who are still controlling the Iraqi Oil Fields AND the Iraqi Oil Revenues. As much oil as Bush and Cheney control, we shouldn't ever have to be concerned about drilling or about price hikes, except that Bush and Cheney are so greedy, their billions are still not enough to satisfy their lust for money.
I could not agree more. When we are busy cutting health services, we can also cut the programs that protect us from toxic water and air, so that people can become sicker.
According to mathematics you need a number greater than 50% in order to label yourself as the majority
Neither Democrats or Republicans have 50%. Both have just under 1/3. Not everyone is hard line party voters. If they were, we wouldn't be flopping control back & forth between D and R. Rasmussen showed all 3 (D, I, & R) within 2% of each other. All are in the 30-34% range.
That's what makes the 2010 election results so hard for the far left to understand. It wasn't just the Republican voters they were calling racists and all kinds of dirty accusations.
And why the sudden interest in > 50% majority to pass things? That didn't seem to matter during the HCR debate polls. How could you think that matters and the other doesn't then call others zealots?
If it wasn’t for the Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) we wouldn’t have known that Japan is spilling Plutonium from 3 of its crippled nuclear plants
If I thought like a liberal, I'd see that as racist against Japanese scientists being too dumb to detect radation.
Those who want the EPA defunded, are you volunteering to clean up oil spills? Or have toxic waste disposed of in your neighborhood? NO? Didn't think so.
big bob pull your big head out of the jar.Its about choices. It's about clean water'clean air .It's about medience for the old and disable. Its about making a choice between eating or taking your medicene,Its about looking at a sick kid not being able to afford a doctor. Its about being dumb enough to think corp. will do the right thing.Don't forget how they destroy our ecomony without regulations.Don't forget who has drove gas prices through the roof, and hick how about grocery prices. The same people who scream less gov.while they gov. our lives more.Thank god Im a liberal not a republican that thinks nobody smart enough to see.
"Don't forget who has drove gas prices through the roof"
Congress, in search of more tax dollars
"and hick how about grocery prices"
Congress, by subsidizing the use of our food for the production of fuel, and the equivalent cost of two fuel gallons worth of energy (and pollution) to create one
"Its about looking at a sick kid not being able to afford a doctor"
Because in the 70's, Congress decided it can better regulate the prices doctors charge their patients than the doctors who lived in the neighborhood where the poor kid was could, and mandated the use of the CMS guidelines fixing prices.
"Its about making a choice between eating or taking your medicene"
Or sitting on your ass as a "gubermint" dependent, or getting off of it and earning enough, saving enough, so you don't have to depend on anyone for this choice.
"It's about medience for the old and disable"
Because, for almost 200 years, before "gubermint" overtook the role of care and charity, the hospitals and clinics run by private organizations and religious entities didn't exist, and didn't treat anyone. And they didn't provide for the poor, the widowed, or the orphans, either.
"It's about clean water'clean air"
Because the biggest polluter in the United States was and continues to be the Federal "gubermint" who coincidentally exempts themselves from the very pollution laws they write for the rest of us.
"Its about being dumb enough to think corp. will do the right thing.Don't forget how they destroy our ecomony without regulations"
Right. The most effective business model is to kill or sicken your customers. I forgot.
It's really about being so stupid as to think that the 535 individuals are worried about anything expect their own power, and not being embarrassed in the New York Times.
And as for regulations, I'm sure if you could pick up a book and read (Ids start with The Big Short, BTW), you would understand that there are so many laws in the USC that we are probably violating a dozen just having this debate. The problem is, those employees at the SEC that you hold in such high regard were too busy looking at pornography than doing their oversight jobs on Wall Street.
You are foolish to believe that the source of our problems can also be the solution. We all are. It will take a miracle to prevent the collapse of this country.
But we are really good at hastening it, as demonstrated by all the lovely comment entries above.
sean liberal to the bone, racist I never been .I'm no better than a man under bridge and egual to the richest man.One has now
The days of having a legislature are numbered. They no longer represent the people. They care only about their own self-serving interests. Autocracy is right around the corner.
joanne-1237813
That's because people who rely on the government to fix their problems dont wanna give up their welfare checks. Look at planned parenthood, if people would practice safe sex ALL the time the government wouldnt need to have a program to support unplanned pregnancies. People are stupid though and have no clue how to make it in the real world. The individual responsibility of a person to deal with their own problems has been stripped away. Why take responsibility for your own actions when you can pass off to a government program?
I agree with you Greg. Also, I think that many people have forgotten that the Tea Party and Republicans have said that they are determined to make OUR (America's) president a "one-term president" and they are doing everything they can to try and make it happen. I hope that the American people will read...ask questions...and not allow fear and scare tactics influence them at the polls in 2012.
It's true the Republicans are obstructionist, but the Democrats are reaching out just a little to far and beyond their means.
Even though Obama is not the ideal president (just makes poor decisions) and even if the Republicans do manage to find someone that does qualify as a to fill the profile. I would probably vote for Obama anyways just so the Republicans don't create an autocracy.
So a lot of you think Obama is a great president? Where is the birth certificate? He claims not to be a muslim but has anyone ever seen him eat pork? He has the country on the brink of bankruptcy. He crammed "Obamacare" down our throats. And he put our country at war with Libya without Congressional approval. We are more dependent on foreign oil than ever before. He shut dowhn our own oil drilling, putting tens of thousands out of work. Obama got our country into the mess we are in right now and all he cares about is his own image. And the mention of 'autocracy'...do the names Pelosi, Reid, and Obama mean anything?
Charles Long - Even in the extremely unlikely event that Obama is a foriegn born Muslim, as opposed to McCain who is a foriegn born Christian, I still support Obama's policies as a patiotic, veteran, Christian.
How many presidents was handed such a mess and pulled our buts out ,then tacket health care.GO OBAMA.
The issue with the Tea Party is not spending.............it is race......and only race. They detest the fact that the leader of the country is black.........a fact that makes their blood boil.
The issue with the Tea Party is not spending.............it is race......and only race. They detest the fact that the leader of the country is black.........a fact that makes their blood boil.
Cheap shot
Dissociate
That's just another meaningless accusation of racism. I don't think anybody knows what racism really is because they throw it around like a party favor. This isn't about race it's about the fact that Obama and Congress are failing at the jobs they were elected for.
All you blue state folks better buy some guns cause the Civil War is coming. It will be between blue and red states and the government will be powerless to stop it.
Planned Parenthood is a hugely important service for WOMEN and Democrats should not give in. Repubs should not get to pick what they want cut. Pathetic. Repubs are only out to protect the wealthy. Remember that all the people that didn't care enough to get out and vote for Dems last election.
Planned Parenthood, the Dept of Ed, the EPA all should GO AWAY. I'm a pro-choicer but it seems to me that PP is an abortion machine and there are a heck of a lot of people in this country who are totally, totally against that. "Service for Women"? as in what way?
Maybe if parents taught their children a little more responsibility, we wouldn't need a federal funded by taxpayers--"Planned Parenthood". I don't mind the program, I mind the fact that federal tax dollars support it, instead of the charities that the rich are supposedly donating to.
But then again I will agree, all programs need to be cut, not pick and choose. That much I agree with. All should be on the chopping block.
Planned Parenthood does a huge service to both women and men. They are not just a abortion machine; they do offer this service but all of the other services they offer outweigh that one service by a lot. We're talking Breast Cancer Awareness, Women's Annual Exams, Sex Education, all ranges of Birth Control, Pregnancy Assistance, STD Treatments and Awareness, Men's Health to name a few. Lets not forget that all the services are for people that cannot afford to see normal doctors for these services because they cannot afford it. Remember, a doctors visit alone can top $200 if not more plus medication! They base what you pay on what you make and insurance. My wife had to go there many times when the job situation was ugly and money was tight. I say cut something else; this service does too many great things to be cut.
Annie, they offer cancer screenings, yearly wellwoman exams, STD screening and treatments, family planning services, vasectomies/tubal ligations, etc. For a "pro-choicer" you sure are ill-informed.
Why do we need Planned Parenthood? Has anyone ever heard of going to your family doctor for breast exams, annual pap smears, cancer screenings, STD screening and treatments, and all the other assortment of services they offer? Why should our federal tax money go to support this? I am a pro-lifer, but I still do not understand why tax dollars should go to pay for someone to have an abortion or for their birth control. If you are not ready to be a parent don't have sex, if you are too cheap to buy a condom don't have sex. It's simple. If you get raped go see your family doctor or go to an emergency room!
GendoAZ- Planned Parrenthood DOES NOT OFFER CANCER SCREENING. The President of PP made that statement and later had to retract it because it was not true. PP is a front for abortion, nothing more and nothing less. Like NPR, they are given our tax dollars to promote an agenda that is not in line with mainstream America. They are private organizations, they should be funded by the people they serve or through donations, not the taxpayer.
Most of those with reproduction problems can't afford to go to a doctor. They can't afford screenings and pregnancy prevention. They can go to the emergency room for treatment of basic stuff but that is about it.
If they would just get sick and die the problem would be solved, right pamom ?
parmom1975-
You do realize that in some urban areas, and a lot of rural areas, there are no facilities available to provide the services offered by Planned Parenthood?
Not everyone has available access to a family doctor. Why is it that those of you who have access what to deny it to the less fortunate, yet you will come out and claim how "Christian" or "religious" you are because you drop a few coins into a plate on Sunday, or give an hour or two to some cause? Just admit it, if there isn't a TAX BREAK in it for you, you probably wouldn't do either of those two things also.
It's not solely about ABORTION, although I'm sure that is all that concerns you pro-lifers. Please take your MORAL INDIGNATION elsewhere, like to CHURCH, where it belongs. YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE MORALITY.
PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S FUNDING PROVIDES A SERVICE TO THOSE WHO WOULD OTHERWISE NOT RECEIVE THE HELP. Get it!!
Really! Really? Are we really thinking that not providing birth control to almost 2.9 million low income people is going to save us money.
Oh, so we will still provide those service just at other clinics that charge the government more, or us, more - say $173,000,000 more. And this is a cost saving budget item. Really.
And they think no one will notice how stupid this is. Embarrassing for my party.
I live in a rural area where there are more fields than businesses. We have family doctors and a planned parenthood. I do not think it is up to the government to make sure everyone can have a child or that everyone can get an abortion. I do not want my tax dollars to go to fund these services.
GendoAZ- Planned Parrenthood DOES NOT OFFER CANCER SCREENING.
Yes they do - that's what a Papsmear is fool.
pamom1975 I do not want my tax dollars to go to fund these services.
__ok, then we can support their unplanned pregnancies, their child birth, shots, medical checkups, childcare, after school care, food stamps, college or jail, and the inevitable cycle of poverty. Poverty is a small word for such a large ugly place. So yes, I can see why you don't want to fund birth control. Really?
It is real simple. They want to shut down Planned Parenthood. Go ahead and do it. If this is their flag of surrender - just do it. Then you can tuck it away in your pro-life bag as a win. WINNING!
We'll just pick up the pieces - which will be the ones they left behind to achieve this goal. Why not. See in the realm of poverty this is how it is. It is allowed to stand on others to get out or ahead. Survival is the only rule and why should we not use the poverty rule to reach own goals. WINNING!
It's both comical and tragic that the "Moral Majority" picks and chooses what they deem to be "moral", and could care less about the MANY aspects of their ideologies that are overtly immoral. They hate abortion, but they hate the poor, hungry, jobless, elderly, children, victims of rape/crime, anyone who's lost their job, home, savings and vehicles due to the economic crisis that rained down like acid in '08 and continues to this day.
The "Moral Majority" screams for the rights of unborn babies, then turns its collective backs on those same babies once they're born. At that point, that child becomes a nothing more than an inconvenient "burden" consuming THEIR tax dollars and, consequently, is treated like a throw away human.
If you cannot see the hypocrisy in that ideology, you're hysterically blinded by your own self-righteousness.
The newly elected Republicans, Tea Partiers and Conservatives promised to create jobs. Well, WE'RE STILL WAITING! The only thing you've done well, "Moral Majority", is to hold the government and the American populace hostage to your one-note, same old, tired, worn out, ridiculously presumptuous agenda to undermine the current administration and create an Autocracy if given the chance.
I see HYPOCRITES! You underestimate the intelligence of the mass populace. You underestimate our power in the voting booth. You WILL lose in 2012 and people, like me, will make sure you lose. I'm not poor, not pregnant, not sick, never had an abortion, never had to access subsidy programs in my lifetime, nor am I suffering from the economic crisis in America. My husband and I pay the highest possible tax rate with ZERO deductions outside those provided by the IRS as "standard." I'm just a person who cares about the people who were/are/will be victims of these crises in their lives. Oh, and I contribute to charities that help others help themselves when it's more than apparent that certain American governmental entities want them to just die already.
I reject your brand of morality and see it for what it really is: CLASS WARFARE!
Planned Parenthood is a program designed to provide poor or low income woman with healthcare such as cancer screening, birth control and it's not solely focused on abortion.
of course, the is a good solution, get the Healthcare as reformed up and running so that american women wouldn't have to rely on services like these...
ps I have used Planned Parenthood, when I first graduated from high school, for birth control because I didn't have health insurance and for yearly exams...
I am part of the working middle class (very close the the poverty line) I watch every penny that I spend and do not have many of the "toys" others have. I live within my means and scrimp and save to afford the few toys that I have. I have a daughter that I support within my means. I work for my health insurance (oh by the way I also have MS and have all the costs that go along with that). Before I had my daughter I used birth control, to prevent an unwanted pregnancy, through a family doctor not planned parenthood. Although if I couldn't afford the birth control, I would have used restraint and not had sex! After I got pregnant, again not a planned pregnancy (my husband was not working at the time), but we made due, again through a family doctor and an obstetrician.
My views are not CLASS WARFARE, but they are my views. I feel if you cannot afford something you just don't do it. It is called restraint. Why should we pay for something when simple self control would prevent it? Why does everyone feel they are entitled to something just because it feels good.

No? I didn’t want my tax dollars to go to funding the Republicans’ Lie Called the War in Iraq either, so I can imagine how you feel. Nevertheless, women’s rights in this country should be protected against those who are trying to control women’s wombs.
I didn't have a boyfriend until 12th grade and abstaned till later, .I am now 39 and have only had 6 partners in my lifetime...I wasn't getting pregenant until I was ready also these boyfriends used protection too.
fyi- my first job was outdoors but had to were jeans so the conditions were right for yeast infections, if I wasn't careful and that particular job didn't have healthcare...
Pamom you need to know this is a big country.Get out .maybe you need understand everybody doesn't have choices.
I agree it is a big country. I just believe in taking care of myself. I don't like to have to rely on anyone to take care of me. I could have received welfare and food-stamps and probably medicaid when I divorced my husband, but I worked and took care of myself and daughter on my own. Welfare and Medicaid are there for a temporary assistance, but not something we should all live on. We should not live off of our government. They are there to temporarilly help us not as a way of life.
Really Big Bear, I am a tax payer too. I want some tangible benefits and services for my tax dollar. I do not want to pay taxes simply to see the money given to the rich. Or funneled into programs, that do not benefit the middle class and the poor.
Tea baggers, liberals all the extremes. The fact is the budget should have been submitted before the last election but Obama couldn't manage a two car funeral let alone our government so nothing happened. It probably wasn't right in the polls for Obama to lead so he organized town hall meetings. This is what we deserve when we elect a political activist, one term senator to run the country. Unfortuantely I don't see anything changing in the next election!
Stop hating Obama. If the Senate Dems had 60 votes to overcome the obstructionist Repubs we would have had a budget and a lot more.
Yet the dems managed to pass healthcare even with the obstructionist repubs....go figure!
There was no dem budgets submitted. They just kept approving CR's so that they wouldn't have to deal with it.
So, W didn't finish the 'cakewalk' war that he got us into during his first term. The minute Obama stepped into office, they were 'his' wars as far as the right was concerned. Will, Boehner is Speaker now, so it is 'his' budget! Get over it and pass a budget that both sides agree on!
The Federal budget has grown completely out of control because of outrageous entitlements (thank liberals) and Obama - who has never actually done ANYTHING but spend other people's money - has made that situation much, much worse. Entitlements have destroyed many European countries - not to mention look at California, NY, Illinois - look at Detroit where the entitlement culture destroyed a once great city. This country wasn't built on the premise that we'd just print money and live happiuly ever after. Too many empty headed morons bought Obama's promises of rainbows, windmills and unicorns for everyone. Grow up.
Ron, they want to get rid of anything that doesn't fit their definition of "morality." It's immoral not to work and provide for your own family, but it's also immoral to abort a fetus because you know you can't work and provide for your family due to the high cost of living, low wages, joblessness, illness, etc. Welcome to circle jerk reasoning!
Hey asknreceive1-1054310, what's moral about Newt! He just runs around looking for somewhere to bury his bone.

You’re forgetting the fact that millions of us, people like me, are paying INTO Social Security, we’re not taking anything out.
President Clinton make Social Security solvent, and maintained a Social Security surplus for 40 years into the future.
Bush took office and took all of our money OUT of Social Security and that money has to be repaid because it is NOT government money, it’s money that belongs to the people.
Republicans call Social Security a burden because they don’t want to pay us back. The only reason Social Security is such a big piece of the pie is because they have to repay all of the billions Republicans have taken from it.
Social Security is the ONLY program that actually has money in it, but instead what’s in there is an “IOU” signed by George W. Bush.
Really? Entitlements have destroyed many European countries? Can you be more specific? The US ranks 27 for health status among industrialized nations. European countries have entitlements that benefit everyone such as universal health care.
This belief that all federal programs are somehow entitlements is crazy. If you think paying for nutritional vouchers for poor children is too expensive, try tallying up the cost for taking care of children who develop chronic diseases early in life due to poor nutrition.
All of our budget problems began in 1971 when President " I am not a crook" Nixon took our country off of the Gold Standard .
Meaning, at that time , we had the gold to cover our debt - and we have gone downhill ever since then.
By both partys .
This is FACT.
In effect , Nixon opened the first "charge card".
Nixon was a Republican , and his cohorts have been involved as economic advisors with EVERY Republican administration since.
Follow the money - who profits from this ? If you're honest with yourself , we all know this answer.
Bush got us into this mess not entitlements.Go tell grandpa's, he's the problem after he pay into the program all of his life
If they want to save why not stop the planned 58 Billion in tax credits for the oil industry which has record profits in the 89 to 94 percent range.
the republican party has been high jacked by the rightwing extreme, and they are really trying to christainize America, not balance a budget.
They are trying to cut back the budget so we can afford the things we need. Just like a family budget. If you can't afford a big screen TV, don't buy it. And what is wrong with Christianizing America?
Separation of Church and State. Why are we regulating people and not business?
pamom just proved the basis of my previous post.
Are you pro-lifers ever going to respect the Constitution that you claim to love so much, or is that another one of your CONVENIENT beliefs that goes out of the window if the preacher says the Bible tells you so?
This budget, and by extension the deficit, requires sacrifice from all quarters of this country NOT JUST THE PARTS THAT DON"T LINE UP WITH YOUR PERSONAL OR POLITICAL IDEOLOGY!!
If those who are able sacrificed equally there would be plenty to spread around to the less fortunate. Now whether they are truly less fortunate or are scamming the system is another debate. But is today's American a country that THROW'S THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER?
I did not say that Congress needs to mandate Christianizing American just asked what was wrong with American's becoming more Christian?
I do not believe that today's American would throw the baby out with the bathwater, but I think everyone is still waiting for "their fair share" as Obama put it. My question is if I worked 40 hours a week for my pay, why should I have to give 1/2 of it to the person who sat on their A$$ all week, because they could?
Some of us don't want to be Christianized and more than you want to be Muslimized or Hinduized!!!
TO: pamom1975 who wrote:

What’s wrong with it that this is a country that has a Constitution which provides for freedom of religion. The reason people fled Europe and discovered this country in the first place was for freedom of religion. Now you want to do what England couldn’t do and try to make everyone in this country all the same religion? That sounds like communism to some people.
Even though I myself am a Christian, I prefer to abide by the United States Constitution and not try to force my beliefs on others.
No I don't think everyone needs to be the same religion. I just think that a lot of the social problems and psychological problems in this country stem from the fact that people are not acting in morally responsible manner. Such as drug use and murder. We have strayed so far from what our ancestors hoped for in a new country that it makes me sad to think this is what we are leaving for our children to deal with.
"I just think that a lot of the social problems and psychological problems in this country stem from the fact that people are not acting in morally responsible manner. Such as drug use and murder."
LMAO, let me know when you come down from your moral high ground. Some of the most immoral people I know are "Christians." Get a clue.
pamom, what about disable,or childern who lost their father. how about mental handicapp,Just think what happen to those people before entitlements.I wish you could have a little talk to my motherinlaw she could tell you.
I have a clue. I do have a moral high ground. I have never smoked, done drugs, and rarely have more than one drink on the extemely rare occasions that I do drink. So looking back over history the moral decay of our country started around the late 60's early 70's and has only proceeded to worsen in recent years. We pay less attention to our children and what they are doing. Drug use has worsened and the crimes have worsened. I would have to say unfortunately I was a child born from those days, but my parents raised me to be the Tea Party Republican I am today. Can you say the same?
Don't get me wrong I do feel for the disabled, children who lost their fathers, & mentally handicapped, etc. but how long should we support them? Is it really the countries job to support them indefinitely? Should we support them for their entire lives and why? These are tough questions. We, as a country, only have so much money to go around. We can not keep borrowing forever. We have some tough decisions and they will involve some very tough answers and not everyone is going to like the answers. But we are all going to take a hit in one way or another.
"Hope the tea bags pay dearly in the next election."
I agree with your sentiment--just remember that it is up to us to make sure that that happens. Let's make sure that the GOP and especially the Tea Party get paid (back).
Okay Jack, tell me WHO the Dems didn't put the budget together, which by the way was Constitutional law, last year when they were suppose to? They had total CONTROL and did NOTHING!
Annie, tell me which alleged party proclaimed itself the Party of NO, and successfully managed to filibuster against every attempt to pass budget legislation in the Senate last year. No one has "total control" in Congress.
"Critical Thinking--The Other American National Deficit!"
Anne, They didn't put a budget together because the Republicans threatened with Filabusters, and it's not that the Democrats do not want to work out a budget they just want a clean budget that does not have polical overtones, such as stopping funding for the EPA, NPR, and help for our elderly and our young. I find it frightening that most people do not know the issues and think its all about money and nothing more.
That Filabuster worked real well in regards to "Obamacare". I think if they wanted to pass the budget they would have done it.
don't bame tea party, dem fail to pass budget when they had a chance and obama to blame as well he push health care more.
No filabuster because some republicans went along with it.
""Critical Thinking--The Other American National Deficit!""
NICE!
I think at this point those issues that are causing problems should be withdrawn and at this time should be pulled out. Just ask the American people how much the abortion concern is what they are concerned about right now. I think it is a crime to tell the American military person that they will only get half pay and then expect them to die for their country while their families strugles to pay their bills and put food on their tables. Shame on the Congress: Both Parties! My heart was broken to see them receive the news, especially in the war zone. How devistating canour government be toward them. I am 67 years old and I am now ashamed of my government and my country. A group of kindergarten children are better behaved.
Just look at our people, they are angry, they are leaderless. As a nation we are falling apart. As a education administrator interested in Ethics and Leadership, I learned that Leadership starts at the top. We have no leadership in any of the three branches. I thank God I am no longer teaching our students about how government works. How would I answer their questions today as I did in the early 1960's before our country fell apart?
The sad part of the shut down is that the "congress" will get paid. You can bet your butt that if they did not get their paycheck there would be NO shut down.
They need to pass a law that shuts off their paychecks also if the government shuts down.
Actually Dave the senate proposed a "clean bill" that stated congress would not get paid during a shutdown, the repubs refused. Congresses reply was a bill that put requirements on the Senat that they knew wouldn't pass, just like they put requirements on the continuing resolution. By the way the military will get paid only delayed. The workers that are furlowed will only get paid if congress votes for it.
Dave the doubter, you can be SURE that the Republicans will keep their snouts in the Federal trough. That's their ENTITLEMENT program!
Where are the jobs? Typical gop crap... smoke and mirrors!
Because the DEMS didn't do the budget when by law they were supposed to the Reps have had to concentrate on that. What in the hell have the Dems beein doing for two years? Passing the spread-the-wealth HCR bill that's what. They shirked evey other responsibility to gain control of the people through that disasterous piece of @!$%#.
I'm sorry you're misinformed. The repugs broke all kinds of records for STALLING the legislative process every time the Dems tried to move the bills that would HELP the American people FORWARD... vs. the Corporate WELFARE that the Repugs are representing.
PLEASE pay attention!
The repubs refused to raise the debt limit for the budget. The dems didn't want to cut anything, they just wanted to continue spending so the CR's were passed as a temporary way of avoiding the tough choices. The budget could have and should have been dealt with by the democrats. They brought this crisis on and we all should blame them for using bad judgement and not having the backbone to address the budget earlier. We can blame the republicans for trying to take advantage of this crisis by adding the riders to the budget. I haven't heard of any alternate plan by the democrats to cut the same dollar amounts out in a different way. They still don't want to stop spending and the republicans want to make all the cuts on the people that can least afford them. I would say they both parties are screwing over the American public on this issue.

The Country is broke and in serious debt. If you don't understand that, you better because it will affect you, your kids, grandkids. We borrow 40 cents of every Govt. dollar.
The Republicans are holding out for cuts that amount to 1% (one percent) of the budget. That's nowhere near enough to get us out of trouble, but it's a start.
It is the Democrat (Marxist) party and their Totalitarian leader who are the problem.
All Americans have already cut their personal budgets by more than one percent (just due to the doubling of gas prices since Obama took office), it is time for congress to do the same with Americas budget.
Here's the deal. Obama wants to CONTROL the people. That's what HCR was all about and that's what the debt is all about. How better to do that than to 'break' the country. You've had Pelosi, Reid, Obama ALL pushing OUR United States of America into a socialistic model as in Europe. You Tea Partiers have been partying for far too long.....which is why we are in the economic mess we're in. During the "W" years, nobody heard you questioning where all the phony wealth was coming from, but now you act like it matters because you have to pay a price for it! Go sit on a tack. Since Reagen, there has been far too much spent on the military and entitlements, but Republicans won't touch these issues, yet they are the biggest suckers of money over anything in the budget. Lots of disingenuous blah-blah from the GOP. And all this idiocy about Obama wanting to CONTROL the people? What planet are YOU on? I think you've been listening to nincompoop Glen Beck and his outer-space conspiracy theories too long. Get a grip Annie Oakley! Utterly stupid.
WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER CRAP.Just like the governs it's not about the deth. It's about their cause .Cause they think people are to dumb know better.

As long as the military and air traffic control gets paid (I have no vested interest in either), I couldn't care less if this worthless government shuts down. I hope it does and does so for a long time so that people can see for themselves how little the government actually "helps" people and how much it actually "hurts" people. I would be willing to bet that a vast majority of Americans wouldn't notice a governmant shut down if they weren't constantly bombarded with hyperventilating media hounds shouting of the impending doom.
Tru. Cover the vital basics and let the rest rot for a few years. Americans will adapt, our debt problems will be solved, and America will be stronger for it.
The Republicans put a Bill together to do just that to prevent a Government shut down, but Obama vowed to veto it.

Apparently, Tea Party types don't believe in Government; I think that is called "Anarchy." Is that what they want, a dog-eat-dog existence where everyone is at each other's throat and only the strong survive? I think that is called "Distopia".
What the Tea Party wants is a government that works to support the people as they work and make their lives better. Not to support the people!! We have become a society of entitlement, and the funds are coming from the ones who work hard to make this country a better place for their families!! We are tired of the taking - tired of the foolish spending! We want our hard earned money to go to more practical spending! I don't know what you call it - I don't care.
