I couldn't resist a little computer humor.

I had to laugh this morning when I saw Dick Cheney on TV trying to take credit for President Obama's work.

All this time Republicans have been claiming that Bush WAS NOT responsible for ANYTHING that took place from 2001 to 2009, and that the only thing Republicans were responsible for were President Bill Clinton's successes. Now Republicans want to try to lay claim to President Obama's successes as well, even though they gave no support whatsoever to anything President Obama has done.

Republicans called this "OBAMA'S WAR" and NOT Bush's.

Bush and Cheney concentrated their war efforts on Iraq, NOT Afghanistan, and they had considerably REDUCED the troop presence in Afghanistan and shifted all major forces and supplies to Iraq.

It wasn't until President Obama came to office that our troops were sent back in to Afghanistan to finish the job by getting Bin Laden, and thank God they got it done AND came home safe!

Sorry we can't exactly say the same for the job Republicans did on an unarmed Iraq.

Let me guess, Republican amnesia has turned into some terrible LONG TERM amnesia.

The world doesn't need to be convinced, only the extremists, and it seems they aren't denying it. Conspiracy theorists will always question everything, it is their nature.

The sooner Bin Laden's name is no longer in the media, the better. The longer this goes on, the more of a martyr he becomes. While he was instrumental in the 9/11 attacks, quite frankly I don't believe he has been much of a threat the past few years. Personally I am happy to hear that some intelligence came from the raid as well, and hopefully it will lead to more plots being uncovered and dealt with, and more of the organization torn down.

Furthermore, the sooner his name is out of the media, the sooner all the political figures, particularly Obama, can stop claiming personal responsibility for his death. The American people are responsible for his death, primarily because as a people we demanded justice for the attacks on 9/11. It was soldiers who performed the task, intelligence operators who put the pieces together to locate him, and the drive for revenge that kept those parties in the game for almost 10 years. Last time there was rumors of his death Osama released videos and tapes the next day proving he was still alive. It's been a few days now and we haven't heard a peep from him or his high ranking followers. That is enough proof for me that the "real" Osama has been removed.

Fact: Afghanistan was originally conceived by the Bush Administration to be a indigenous war using small ODA teams of Special Forces to train and assist the Nothern Alliance with targeting the Taliban for our airpower. This is what won the war, not pouring thousands of troops into the country.

Contrary to popular opinion, I hope the photos are not released. A human being has been killed and there should be a degree of "respect" shown for this. The military has already given a degree of respect by burial within 24 hours as a nod to his religious/cultural views. Exploiting the death by plastering photos of the dead body will prove more inflammatory for the radical extremists than comforting for the disbelievers.

If confirmation is needed, the photos could be privately shared with world leaders and these leaders could make public confirmation of the death. Enough trusted foreign leaders confirming the death should be solid proof. I believe it happened, and I bet most of you do, too.

This is certainly not a time to celebrate in America. It is a time to reflect on how one man's hatred can have such a worldwide effect. It is ai time to remember and mourn the innocents that were lost. We can be glad in our hearts that such a threat is gone, but let us not allow our hatred to rule us as it did bin Laden so that we forget the one's we used to hold so close. How many of you can even recall the flights that went down without looking it up? But we remember this one man, and we hate him.

I condemned bin Laden and his actions on September 11th and I stand by those feelings today. But I am not cheering. And neither are those who were on those planes or trapped in the towers. Sreaming and cheering will not bring back the ones we miss most, nor will it rebuild the towers. And sending the death photos out for the world to see will only prove we are children gloating in our playground victories. Let us instead carry a somber heart as we remember what called us to the mission to begin with. Let us remember and let us be sad. Let go of the hatred; bin Laden is no longer here for us to hate. Let go of the hatred; there are more important things to hold on to.

There is no reason to release the photos. DNA match and eyewitness accounts testify to the fact that bin Laden is dead. Releasing the photos does not benefit us in any way, other than to satisfy some people's morbid curiosity.

On the downside, releasing the photos could be used to trigger trouble. Look at the so-called Danish cartoons. The real cartoons provoked no ire in the Muslim world, because they were not disrespectful. But months later, phony cartoons (and they were pretty disgustng and extremely disrespectful) were distributed around the world along with a claim that they were the cartoons published in the Danish press. There were riots and people lost their lives over a hoax. No thanks. Why give them the ammunition?

Actually, if the Taliban doesn't know if he is alive, then that pretty much sums up that he is dead. What I would like to know is was he shot at close or long range and with what caliber. I can pretty much paint my own mental picture on what happen to his face/head. Additionally, if DNA was confirmed, then you can bet your backside it was Osama.

It has been reported that Osama bin Laden is dead. People whose job it is to verify that death have done so. Those who don't believe in bin Laden's death ARE conspiracy theorists. You don't need evidence of that death personally presented to you any more than you need the evidence of every criminal conviction in the United States presented to you. We take the word of those in our government to do their jobs and there are sufficient checks and balances to ensure that they are.

The President isn't concerned about the feelings of radical jihadist, he's concerned about the safety of American lives abroad in the world. By burying bin Laden with some respect towards Islamic burial rights, the President is trying to disarm any inflammatory rhetoric that bin Laden supports may try to stoke about our defiling their religion. The same goes for not releasing photographic evidence. It's not because of any feelings he has towards Islam, it's because he's looking out for those likely to be the easiest targets of any reprisal killings by al Qaida.

And Panetta said as late as today that the waterboarding did indeed play a part in the proceding that led to the death of bin Laden. Even Rumsfeld clarified his remarks today to say that the enhanced interegations got the necessary information. On Hannity he said,

Panetta echoed Rumsfeld. I will say again- the thing that Obama did RIGHT was to continue to carry out the plan that Bush put in place and made the call at the end.

In your search for the truth, why not be accurate in your reporting. Leon Panetta never mentioned the word "waterboarding" in his statement. He did say that some of the information was derived from enhanced techniques, but never said waterboarding at all.

Your Rummy quote is probably correct, but he has obviously been out of the loop for about six years and anything he says about the intelligence information that led to the bin Laden residence in Pakistan.

Waterboarding has not been used since President Obama took office more than two years ago. Yet they were able to piece together information that led to the bin Laden hideout. If waterboarding was so damned effective why did it take so long. Most of the reporting about the operation says that it was painstaking assembly of a wide range of intelligence information that led to this success.

Here's something for you torture fans to consider. Many individuals have been convicted for murders they did not commit based on confessions obtained under "enhanced" interrogation techniques. If torture is a way to obtain the truth, why would a person admit to a murder they didn't commit, knowing that a very long prison sentence or death awaited them? Information obtained by torture is, at best, very suspect and experience interrogators believe it is unnecessary.

If torture DIDN'T work, why have they used it since the begining of time? The converse of your question raises a good point too. Let's face it. Torture works for some people. Some it does not. Some will say anything you want to make the pain stop. Nothing is perfect.

Oh, absolutely. The question becomes, when a faction of enemy that you are fighting against only recognizes and respects brutality, how do you get them to cooperate? Most psychiatrists will tell you with this sort of zealot mentality, the only way to break it is by sheer force. Back when people used to get "deprogrammed" after being involved with cults, they were kept sleep deprived, stripped of most basic human rights, because the person doing the deprogramming was having to break you down to nothing to bring you back up and break the hold of the ideology. I think that's why we use it still. If you can break the hold of what the person believes in on the person, you can get at any part of their psyche. You are wrong about the opinions of "most psychologists" and you are wrong about torture. When some people admit to a murder they did not commit under torture, why would we believe tortured prisoners?

Panetta didn't actually SAY waterboarding- but agreed to the term each time someone asked him if that was the technique that was used- so in a sense- he did say it, just not in so many words.

Torture does indeed work- sometimes. Khalid Sheik Mohamed was waterboarded 184 (or close to it) before he broke- as did the other 2. I'm just not sure how they thought after 10 or so they thought eventually it would work- but it did finally break them. And they broke when Rumsfeld WAS in the Defense Secretary position- so yeah- he was in the loop when it happened.

And torture has been used since the beginning of mankind. It does work- just seems that it doesn't agree with your views- that's okay. I'd rather they torture the crap out of the terrorists to get whatever they need to keep us safe.

As for Bush lying- I'm not too sure about that. He did twist things to hie liking, but so has every president since Nixon. Obama has lied, or twisted "fact", so many times we've lost count. He talks a good game, but falls way short on the delivery.

The interrogators have stated that the best information from Khalid Sheik Mohamed was obtained during non-enhanced interrogation following the water boarding. But the fact that torture methods sometimes work does not justify its use. Many FBI and CIA experts have categorically stated that "enhanced" torture is unnecessary. You choose to believe non-experts like Dick Cheney.

When one receives conflicting information from two different sources one decides whom to believe based on bias, prejudice, and pre-conceived notions. You clearly believe that torture is somehow justified. I do not. Torture is wrong and just because torture has survived from the Middle Ages does not justify its use.

No- I believe a common thread from both camps. When Bush & company, including Rumsfeld and Gen. Hayden, along with Panetta say the same thing- that's where I will follow. If it's only a handful saying it wasn't from enhanced techniques- including Obama- it follows that I will take that with a grain of salt, since I don't believe much of what Obama says these days.

The "experts" you speak of aren't talking on it- not the ones who dealt with these terrorists specifically. Only those that have had some experience with it in other dealings. The only expert that was in close proximity to the sessions that is willing to talk was General Mike Hayden, who said that the technique did indeed work on those three individuals. Hayden had no experience with this technique- but determined that it was effective and got info they needed. And I will believe a General over a politician any day of the week!

If you would like to spin the crap out of it, you could say the torture used by the previous administration helped the fall of OBL.

But, you would have to toss out simple logic to get there. The people that I have seen that were most deeply affected by the attacks have not felt the need to do this, yet are grateful to our military and president that Obama has been taken out.

It's hilarious that people keep saying that Obama did what anybody would do. Bush had him surrounded at Tora Bora. There were articles in the paper showing how the military would use bunker-buster bombs to get into his bunker. The strategy was all laid out. And then? Bush gave the order to withdraw. So, obviously, it isn't something ANYBODY would do.

On top of that, Obama overrode the military. They wanted to hit the compound with 2 500 pound bombs. Obama knew that would obliterate any proof that they had gotten Bin Laden, as well as any intel that was there. It was Obama's decision to send in a team.

It was also Obama's decision to send in 2 helicopters. The military wanted to send in 1, but Obama said "What if one of them crashes?" And guess what. It did. That's why they didn't end up fighting their way out of Pakistan.

So what happened was very definitely a result of Obama, not just anyone.

Now, to cover the "Bush said Osama wasn't important" crap. This will go down as another misunderstood Mission Accomplished speech that you take out of context and laugh at. He said he wasn't important because killing one man wasn't going to stop anything. We had out hands full pushing back the Taliban and Al-qaeda. In the grand scheme of things, he was of little importance. Yould you rather have the Superbowl win, or the MVP trophy on the losing team? We were CONSTANTLY raiding small villages and buildings reported to have Osama sightings. Hell, some of our planes are equipped with smart bombs that aren't even controlled by them. They go out flying on a certain heading, a beep goes off letting them know they're about to get a ton lighter and be ready to compensate, and the missile flies off the plane to a predetermined target of the CIA's choosing. Making it sound like we were there just being bullies to the indigenous persons for kicks until he got into office and focused us pisses me and a lot of other veterans of Afghanistan off. How DARE he try to make it sound like it was all his doing. He deserves credit, as does Bush, for keeping at it so long. Our fighting forces and the CIA deserve the true credit though, and this bickering over which president should get what credit is like 2 bums fighting over a pizza box that has a little cheese left on it. It's nothing to fight over. The credit is so small to both of them that it shouldn't matter in the grand schee of things.

There is one thing I can guarantee you. On Sunday night, Obama lost a TON of votes from the military. I hope it was worth it for him to sound like a hero....sound being the operative word.

PS - Obama didn't pull anyone out of Iraq. Bush signed the troop drawdown into law before he left office. The DoW hasn't hit the record again since Bush left when adjusted for massive inflation of the dollar after QE1&2, Unemployment is still VERY high, and higher then he said he'd ever let it get, and what improvements to the economy are we talking about?

Of course, he never said anything about being responsible for finally finding and taking out Bin Laden. Mainly just praised the intelligence community and the military for doing this.

He never took responsibility? Are you kidding? "I went to the head of the CIA and told him finding Osama bin Laden was priority one.", as if somehow it had slipped down our list of sh!t to do in Afghanistan. He's a self serving tool, who merely by virtue of being in office when this happened thinks he deserves more credit then he does. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve any, of course he does. So does Bush, and a myriad of the same people most of you vilified for 8 years, and some rightfully so. But bottom line, this guy is running his mouth like he flew into Afghanistan and beat Osama up till he shot himself to stop the beatings. I just think his congratulations for the people who really did it sounded like an after thought, considering the amount of times he said "I" in that speech.

Obama didn't just decide three days before it happened that he was gonna go kill Osama, they had been tracking him for years, even before 9/11. And if we're gonna blame past presidents for not killing him, lets talk Clinton.

If the lefties could talk about how Bush "wasn't their president" I can say the same thing about Obama. It has nothing to do with race, so you can put that card in the trash. It is possible to dissagree with a black person without it being racial.

I've watched his speeches regarding UBL and haven't seen a hint of giving himself credit for any of it.

You act like you read that the president was visiting somewhere and automatically assume he is giving himself credit without even listening to him at all.
